You are freaking out for no reason. The blue box kits are still around. Athearn still has 1000s of them avaliable. They will still be readily avaliable for another 10 to 20 years. If you want to get ready to run cars cheap just look around. The average price I pay for a ready to run athearn or atlas is about $8.50.
while the blueboxes are around. some town hobby shops have already gone through there supply's since they aren't getting restocked by athearn. My town has a hobby shop with like 2 blueboxes left, and the other has like 10, but the only reason those are there is because nobody wants to buy them.
MB Klien Rules! lol, that was funny in the beginning when you flashed all the images really fast. Bobby, all you have to do to the Athearn is add some weight. It'll be almost as good as a P2k, oh yeah, on the RTR units, you still pretty much need to replace the motor, but they're better than they used to be.
Tsunami will be in the new Athearns and I hope they don't make the mistake of alternating the ditch lights on western units as those roads don't use that feature. That's an eastern thing.
I'm not sold on sound units either.. I have a massive collection of locomotives and are all mostly blue box Athearn with detail.. I'm not ready to spend the money on these yet..
you know dcc/sound reatail from athearn in any color if its an SD60(I,M) i bought this engine in NS color from their site yesterday bought it for $200 with shipping it has the ditch lights also
Im still not sold on any sound units!!! The speakers are too tiiiny sounding and the sounds DONT match road speeds! If Im pulling a heavy load on an HO train I want the run 8 sound at 15 MPH! I just dont like the sound units yet..im not impressed! 200 something dollars is a waste of money for these...
One of my Proto 2000 SD60Ms can pull more than 3 Athearn SD60Ms that a friend of mine has. I agree with you BNSF that the sound in the Athearn ones is very poor. Also for what you pay for the Athearn ones there are still tons of details that are wrong (on the BN ones at least). I have seen new Proto 2000 SD60Ms at train shows for as low as $40.
can i still buy this locomotive?

Sounds bell sounds like it should be around a cows neck! The horn is way off too, sure miss running those beasts!

can you make the ditchlights work on the Backmann DCC?
davajk 3 years ago
The Proto 2000 ones are still better.
BobbySimone86 3 years ago
Athearns are amazing too. But the sound is shit. I'd rather put a Tsunami in it.
