That is only if you do not have a contract with AT@t or any other service provider. People on other service plans buy Iphone's online because that is the only place they can. If you are on t-mobile (or any other service plan) you cannot just go to apple and buy an iphone they wont let you, because you have to have At@t to have an iphone. That is why he unlocked it and why they sell for more
