  • I will be getting one of these once they re-release. Does anyone know if the Project 64 emulator will run on Pandora? And what is/will be the price for this to buy in the UK? Many Thanks.

  • This console looks really cool and well designed. I'm interested in owning one.

  • Another detail that did not like the pandora is the absence of L and R buttons How can we play psx games without any of these buttons?

  • @dezark From the website:

"Full gamepad controls plus shoulder buttons"

    v=1CaU9jQQJ1o

You can use any USB controller for a computer; it is a computer, after all, and I think that it's 4000mAh battery will be enough to power a small thing like a game controller.

Radioshack has one on their shelves right now that looks _very_ suspiciosly like a PSX/PS2 controller.

  • RELECE THE STUPED PANDORA

  • @max28227 dude calm down they are for sale

but you have to order them from openpandora . org

500 dollars is VERY good for all of the features you get with this device

  • @handofstand IM NOT IN THE UK IM IN THE FREEKIN USA THERES NOWHRE TO BUY!

  • @max28227 Yes there is.

    controlpad . com / pandoraprivate . html

  • @max28227 sorry, I gave the wrong URL, it's actually

    icontrolpad . com / pandoraprivate . html

Remove all the spaces from the second line of this post and paste it into the URL field.

Sorry about the spaces, but YouTube's filter get's more and more restrictive every day.

  • @handofstand np and thanks this thing looks sweet thanks a lot man

  • awww another n64 emu which play basic titles. 12 years passed way and i never seen a good n64 emulator. im not expecting much from next version of project64.

  • @dezark it because of the copy right, once that is expired they will be flooding in

  • @dezark It is a powerful computer with OpenGL 2.0 hardware with a touchscreen.

This software running on it is an emulator, running on top of Linux.

  • I wanted to say that there no nintendo 64 emulator quality, it will never be possible. Even the first games of this system are not correctly emulated in any emulator for PC running on Windows or Linux or even the pandora. For example, even if you have a super computer you can not run games without losing frames or without losing interesting visual effects like banjo or mario kart. I think after so long, I believe that developers should give up.

  • @dezark

    v=l_v4Uc98DkY

    v=vzgNZZZKApk

Emulation is not full speed by definition. Although I doubt your eye, or even a high speed camera, could notice the difference if it was running on a supercomputer.

Go buy an N64 off of eBay if you are concerned about having the 100% experience.

You'd better hurry, they stopped manufacturing the N64 in 2002, and everything breaks eventually...

  • Vangelis... that's a bit odd for playing Mario.

  • This is still neat, but I'll get a 3DS. The problem with this as I see it is I can't go downtown and buy one, and when I want something I'm never ever prepared to wait several months to get it. I pay more for things in stores rather than on ebay because I want them when I buy them.

  • Yeah more vapor tech to be sure. And that sucks because I would buy one right away.

  • @pudwhap Whatchu talkin' bout Willis?!

    openpandora . org

    gbax . org

    Damn trolls.

  • The nubs are not unique any more. Nintendo copied it with their "slide-pad" or maybe they just had the same idea at the same time.

I have already ordered my Pandora w0ot! I'll get it in January!

  • @ArsonistInUrFirewall

Both Pandora and 3DS copied the PSP sliding anolog.

  • I prefer the psp

  • Where can i buy one?

  • @FraterAeternus93

    icontrolpad . com / pandoraprivate . html

  • Nice, what about the z button though.

  • @vkain100

you can probably just map any convenient button to Z.

  • @ArsonistInUrFirewall ok i see thanks

  • Did you guys get the nubs patented or not?

You don't want to see some other company steal that genius design and patent it, do you?

  • Dude, this is hella impressive.

I just heard about this today but it looks fantastic.

    You have my praise sir!

  • I have a question about Pandora. Is it possible to run java game like minecraft? or dos that demand to much?

  • @anariaq

If it can im getting it just for minecraft lol

    for realz though

  • @LPmeteora082 The good news is that one already have tried to make a opengl es version of minecraft and run it on a android phone. And it seems to run descent, So the possibility that it can run on Pandora is getting closer ;)

  • gettimg that

  • pandora is just a mini laptop with a controller... my laptop can do all this... big deal

  • @delli2011 can your laptop fit in your pocket?

  • @CyrusLeaks exactly my friend. that's the only advantage to this thing. A better question is, do most people already own a laptop... yes. So why buy something you already own, its a glorified netbook.

  • How does pandora run faster than iphone 4 if iphone 4 has higher processor 1 ghz?

  • @HardKore5250 its called overclocking. learn it.

  • Nice piece of vaportech

  • Hello Man, I bought the Pandora, could you teach me how to play Zelda and other games on it? Where do I donwload the emulator and the rom? How do I open the roms with the emulator on Pandora?

    my e-mail: fkolkc@yahoo.com.br

    Thanks!

  • i got a question about this..

does this thing has got better graphcs than the psp?

and how much does it costs?

  • @Roelvvv

Uhm graphics are really only half of what this does, if that

    and 500 USD

  • I'm thinking how RUGGED these things would be. coz DS and laptop hinges easily break.

    I will order soon.

  • does this play also sound and music of the game? I don't ear anything

  • @Vyse220 - Around 1:30 Craig mentions his kernel is screwed up, it probably will emulate sound if it's set up right.

  • If you can take notes on this pandora thing, I am sold.

This is so much superior to a shitty laptop :D

  • @JulesBondTF2 - I'm sure there's some software for taking notes. You can type into a text editor or maybe someone will make a clone of Graffiti from Palm, so you can handwrite on it somehow.

  • Pandora makes me want to cheat on my PSP. She hasn't been loving me much as of late. Perhaps I should start saving up mah pennies...

  • play zelda instead

  • way better than ps3 haha

  • $330 for this??? Forgive my language but FUCK THAT !!

  • @justin20877

People spend alot more on stupid things. Like iPhones. This can do everything better than an iPhone. (Except make phone calls, but then again, with full Bluetooth and WiFi, you could probably use internet phone systems, like skipe, just fine.)

I loved my GP2X, and can't wait to get my hands on one of these!

  • Hm. I've had that nub idea since before pictures of the NDS was released.

  • just hold it like you're supposed to!

  • I WANT ONE SO HAARDDD

  • What about the SSB???? and can it work for multiplayer games!' if it's it i will buy one of these for sure

  • im 11 so i dont hav a job, so im gonna do work around my neighberhood so i can get a pandora, i heard they have a psx emulator because i want that i remeber comin home from preschool bootin up the psx and playing crash bandicoot

  • Can you browse the internet with it too?

  • vapourware, its so outdated now they should just forget releasing it

  • @ENGLANDTHEGREATEST Just making a couple thousand of them and deciding to stop isn't such a great idea.

  • @ENGLANDTHEGREATEST Linux is 20 years old

but here it is on my Dell laptop I bought just 6 months ago new.

    So...

  • Should i buy one do the n64 work great?

  • @davetrap Some games are not emulated properly because they were made to work even this well by studying, from the outside, how a N64 works.

  • I hope someone will port Half-Life to the Pandora. That game alone could sell a million copies of the pandora or more. Probably more :)

Thumbs up this comment if you think they should port Half-Life (if possible)!

  • @syst3m08 The Pandora isn't powerful enough to run Half-Life

  • @TheHardonCollider Pandora emulates Dreamcast (see video at vXJ0WtWGRLE), and Half Life was released on Dreamcast. You're wrong.

  • @TheHardonCollider Yes it is. It emulates Dreamcast, and Half Life in on Dreamcast.

  • @TheHardonCollider I thought so...or atleast not yet.

  • @syst3m08

This runs on linux. Using wine, you could install steam on this and play some of the older steam games on it (Half Life, Dark Forces, Monkey Island)...

  • @apuleyo No. WINE no worky on ARM.

  • @syst3m08 sure..right...like the pandora will seel half a million units in its lifetime.

  • @pl1ght You never know, it just needs marketing and a more people to make them and the Pandora could take off

  • @syst3m08 No. No. No. No. No. Totally wrong processor to begin with.

  • @syst3m08 There is a Dreamcast emulator that works on the Pandora and Half-Life was released on the DC, therefore there is already Half-Life on the Pandora.

  • @syst3m08 well i think half life came out in 1998 so i think it should be possable and dont forget counterstrike 1.6

  • @yutoobjackel81 - On the Pandora?

    No.

None of Valve's games have been compiled for ARM. Half-Life and Counterstrike can't run on the Pandora, unless Valve gives away the source code or ports it themselves.

  • @syst3m08 crazy although it may seem, there will be, You'd probably either be able to run it through a dream-cast emulator or the quake engine as a team of nut jobs are remaking it for the quake engine. watch?v=YA9km4aHjzI (If this link does show, type in half-life for quake in the search bar)

  • @syst3m08

Im sorry, but, do you have any clue what your talking about? Yes, the Pandora is capable of handling it, however, we need the source code to port it to it. Valve never gave us the source code for half life. So, we either get the source code, or the only other option is to emulate an x86 system, and then run half life...which would be completely unplayable due to severe lag.

  • @syst3m08 TOTALLY AGREE :D

  • @syst3m08 I suppose it's possible, if HL can run on Linux, it shouldn't be too hard, it does run Quake 3 Arena.

  • @VoidKeeper Half Life is for X86 PCs, and Pandora uses a different CPU design (Not Intel 386 based like Intel Pentiums , AMD or VIA ones ) . Quake 3 sources are open, so Quake 3 was "remade" from PC to Pandora .

  • @syst3m08 pandora has linux on it, half life is for linux already?

idk correct me if im wrong

  • @vekalist somewhat

    lhl . linuxgames . com

  • @syst3m08 If Half-Life is an x86 binary then unfortunately you would have to run it in a virtual machine here. (The OpenPandora has an ARM-type processor, and so the instructions in a Windows Executable cannot be directly executed on the OpenPandora>)

But it looks like Half-Life will mostly run under Linux right now:

    lhl . linuxgames . com / working . shtml

  • @syst3m08 does closed source mean anything to you?

  • @syst3m08 Closed source software is pretty much impossible to port.

  • The nubs seem way, way better than the psp's crappy one. Seriously, what was Sony THINKING!? Only 8 directions, barely any sensitivity!

  • if they can get a BATTLEFIELD game running on this thing, I will definetly buy it, till them I am kind of on the fence, because the keyboard is too small and I could just get a MSI wind

  • I'd like to see how smoothly Ocarina of Time runs on this. The other games are running very smooth :D great job!

  • Yes, I know that this has been asked many times, but how much will it cost?

  • @ossisTONE $330

  • if its cheap and it will emulate the N64 perfectly then i think i will buy one

  • So, you just copied this of the PSP? Correct me if i'm wrong. =)

  • Pretty smooth flying, craig

  • Looks cool but the next gen handhelds are coming around with the DS2 being at the end 2010/beginning 2011

The DS2 will most likely use the tegra 2 which can even run the unreal 3 engine.

I might still try picking up a pandora since I am a pack rat when it comes tech stuff.

  • lmao, where the hell did you hear this bogus rumor about the next nintendo handheld?

We still havent seen the DSiXL in the US yet, what makes you think they are going to release a new handheld within a year of their last?

  • @jacobts by now you should of heard of the 3DS which will be shown at E3.

It will feature games in 3D without the use of glasses. It will also have graphics comparable to the gamecube.

It will also have a lot more added to it.

  • @jacobts The 3DS was announced about a week ago

  • What, the N64 works almost full speed already?

    That's fukken awesome.

Will order when they make second batch.

  • @JopeSane second batch:

    icontrolpad . com / pandoraprivate . html

  • I want that thing so fucking much that I can't STAND it!!!

But I already got a DSi for christmas... RRRR... My parents will refuse!!! "The electronic thingy you have already is good enough"

    Bleah!

I'll be it myself if I have to!!!!

  • @ResentfulButtocks WHY get the DSi oh WHY...

  • I was... I was just.. I was... D:

    I'm an IDIOT!! Blech...

I'm so bored of this little thing... I have a good idea!!!!! I'll SELL It :DDD

    YAY :D

  • How much is a pandora?

And when will I be able to buy one?

  • @kleinebudde $330

  • @kleinebudde You can buy one now.

  • @kleinebudde You can pre-order it, but they're $330 (or £266.20) including VAT.

  • what are the c buttons

  • @rike1175 You would have to map them to the second nub (like it is on the gamecube), 2 of the 4 action buttons, or any of the keys on the keyboard.

  • Ahh, at the end when he said 'The Pandora' he sounded like a dad watching his kid take its first steps.

This is going to be huge.

  • Brilliant. Such potential.

  • You can afford it by donating blood

  • No, in Canada you don't get paid for that.

    :'(

  • cross into the U.S. to do it, then

mexicans do it, and so can you

  • I finally got a job, and as soon as I earn enough money I AM BUYING ONE OF THESE BITCHES.

  • The 64 emulation looks pretty smooth.

If this thing can emulate the PSX like that, I'm buying it fore sure.

I was looking for a GP2X Wizz but this Pandora seems better.

  • @comradekowalski

Actually PSX runs full speed with sound. Currently there is a hiccup with the sound emulation, but that should be fixed soon! With dual analog controlls, this console can't be beat!

  • The psx emulator works way better ;)

  • Well guys, I trust you !

    Can't wait to see that "in-game" !

  • @comradekowalski - Actually, the PSX emulation is much better, fullspeed for most games. The N64 is harder to emu than the PSX.

And this is only for Mario 64, the more complex games are still pretty slow. They're working on it.

  • @CryptoDah2 Yea you do that. Good luck getting N64 to run on a Wiz.

  • I cant afford this thing either! Well i couldnt really tell the actual size but i want something that i can make completely portable. If the commenter above me us is right it is DS size and that is not to bad. Hey, do you think a nd4 emulator would work on a ds?

  • Note that when they say it's the size of a DS, they mean the DS Phat, not Lite or DSi. And no, an N64 emulator will never work on the DS alone, not without some sort of additional hardware. The DS has a 66 MHz processor and a 33 MHz one, and 4 MB of RAM. Check the Pandora specs and you'll see it's much, much, much better suited for N64 emulation.

  • I don't think so dude, Pandora it`s like a NintendoDs size wise and kicks Wiiz ass in every aspect. this thing is absolutely amazing.

  • Id like to see FFVIII or FFIX running on this.

  • like PSP analogue control

  • Wow... that was so original. If your going to insult someone, at least be original with your rants. At least then people won't hate you as much. And there is nothing wrong with being a nerd.

  • cool device.

nice emptly vodka bottle next to the keyboard. :)

  • how much is this thing once it goes for sale again (not pre ordering)? I think I may actually want it just for the N64 emulation

  • @knarfxgamer

The second batch (not preorder) will be 300 euros ;)

  • So about $432... hmmm I might actually buy it if I can see the emulator showing off more of the challenging N64 games. (Such as Banjo Kazooie/tooie, Donkey Kong 64, Mario party, Conker's bad fur day, mario tennis, ect)

  • I'd like to see Majora's Mask on this. Even Nintendo's own emulator can't run that game right.

  • Ah, you've read L'Etranger?

Classic, I should really finish reading that myself sometime.

  • The music is from Vangelis and the song is called Pulsar (it can be found here on youtube)

  • Very nice!

Btw the music playing in the background while you're showing Mario64 sounds quite interesting. What is it? :)

  • Hope to see a video playing Q3A with nubs

  • There is a video just about that:

search for "pandora quake 3" and you will find it. Works quite nicely ;)

    /watch?v=GsclXxxjxVg

  • Pandora rocks i will be getting one

  • What version of Mupen64Plus is this based on? 1.5 or 2.0?

  • Version 1.5.

  • Is there any plans to port version 2.0? Personally I think version 2.0 would fit the Pandora more. For one, there has been a lot of progress with Mupen64Plus, but also, 2.0 is modular and comes with an API, making it relatively easy to write your own frontend. That way someone could write a GUI frontend optimized for the Pandora. Also, I think the guys behind m64p would appreciate if it was possible to merge the two projects.

  • Please tryout Waverace64

that would be epic because it's probably the most performance demanding game on the N64

  • waverace? nah man perfect dark probably is

  • If it was so performance demanding, why did it not need the expansion pack that Perfect dark and others needed?

  • The most demanding games on the N64 make use of the memory expansion pak. Perfect Dark is probably the most demanding game on the console, that uses this pak. So if that game runs smooth, anything can.

  • YESSSSSS!!!!!

  • Why is the music from Carl Sagans' Cosmos in the background?

  • What's up with the flickering thing in bottom-middle-left?

  • Nevermind. It's the cursor blinking. But another question: The emulator isn't running under X-Window but directly under linux shell?

  • He says the sound is turned off. I think he's just got some crazy techno in the background.

Also, WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT.

  • Sounds like Jean Michel Jarre in the background or something off Synthersizers greatest hits. Wow the nipples... erm I mean Nubs only move 2mm wow, No matter how much I close my eyes and rub my own nipples it just isn't the same :(

  • man ur sick. :P

  • pleas do not windows my pandora !

    and stop windowsing yours

  • great work

  • @CRaigX

Really looking forward to the Pandora, but I have one question:

Are they open source emulators, or does the OS come with certain ones?

  • @sciences8

Emulators won't be pre-installed, that's tricky legal territory. Emus (and all apps) are written by community / indie devs, and not owned by the Pandora team. :-) They're open source more often than not. This one in particular, is.

  • Ah, thanks for the clear up. :)

Still gonna get one, because I really want to play my old N64 games, but my N64 broke (D:). Can't wait till full distribution starts.

  • I recognized two of those, and haven't played any of them. I probably won't, as I never had a Nintendo 64. As for the second analog stick, no, I believe N64 only had one placed in the center of the controller. The second nub could be shown off in a game using separate aim and move controls, like Abuse or Zombie Apocalypse.

Good progress on the emulator, and thanks very much for showing this!

  • Thank you Craig, it is really appreciated.

  • holy crap, i can't wait to have portable star fox 64!

  • Sweeeeeet! I want Pandora once released.

  • What about abrasion? Wear and tear is a problem for other game consoles, that's why there is need for dead zones and recalibration.

  • so... does the new version of the emulator fix the sound problem or whatever is the problem?, will be awsome to have this in... 2 months.

sweet vid craig, tho you should consider a tripod ;) or make your own with a office styled lamp arm thingy, cheap stable and mobile!

  • I'm sold!

If only my parents would let me...

  • NO WAY !!!!!

I thought it couldn't be done yet.

Thats the coolest thing ive seen the Pandora do.

  • NICE :D

What about 2nd analog? surly N64 only had one. :3

  • Pandora emulates N64?? That's me sold on it then!

  • of course it does. other emulators will be available as well

  • Suck on that, Nworksdev.

  • Really great video. Seeing you actually playing the work in progress emulator is very encouraging, it looks really good.

    Thanks.

  • Glad to see this! 5*

  • Nice stuff! Good to see some movement from the DEV team finally! Can't wait to try mine out!

  • nice video. can you make a video in them you playing zelda OoT or MM? (sorry for my bad english xD)
