The rolls royce distinguishes itself because it is ashamed of bmw, but Maybach is not because for one thing I own an S 63 AMG and it is awesome the S class has an amazing history and I dont want the maybach not cause it isnt good , but because I like driving and I dont chauffeur people so I dont think the flat seats are practical for drivers. The reasons are most likely what you said people consider them overgrown S-Classes. They are produced at the same plant as the S-Class whereas the Rolls is still built in England even though it is owned by BMW.
