it's difficult to get tired of watching this video over and over - a montage masterpiece. And sweetly hypnotic. This singer, I will rush to say, is the Roy Orbison of the 21st century. Hope they go far!
I'm on the fence and yes I'm black , a girl, and a hipster (and hot :-) ) Like the tune and arrangement of the song but ,quite possibly, the message flew right over my head. Someone who is a racist, racialist, or just plain ignorant should refrain from trying to explain this to me. Thanks in advance.
there are NO BLACK GIRLS!!! WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU??? Do you realize how hurtful and disappointing this video is??? You're clearly a young talented fool. Slap yourself FOOL. Now THINK: What made you write this song in the first place? Was it a hipster 'spidey sense' for what would make you sound cool? Well you nailed it... and exploited your future friends.
@nigjbeauty1 Look, the video is about the overly white culture of hipsters. Instead of black girls, he finds white girls in 50's outfits acting stereotypically "white." His watermelon offering symbolizes his misinformed and infantile knowledge about black girls. His friend in the upstairs patio makes a bad substitute for a black girl (dressed in classic southern rural dress), so he lashes out. Finds happiness in a non-black girl. Crisis averted. Interesting message, too bad it's insincere.
@maximillian1685 and they probably don't know any black girls.. which is usually the case with bands like these.. how many black girls do you know that listen to this kind of music, or hang with that kind of crowd?
@nigjbeauty1 You mean like my friend who brought this video to my attention? It's no longer the completely white scene it was 10 years ago - esp in Brooklyn. This talented watermelon-bearing nimwit just raised his cup to black girls and then celebrated by going home with a different girl. U don't have to be a genius to see how that's hurtful. I respect that the video is about his infantile notions, but it also manages to insult black girls in the scene by pretending they don't exist.
Dont hate on a good song

Saw these guys in concert the other night at Lee's Palace in Toronto. Seeing them live is a good idea.

@nigjbeauty1 you think she's BLACK? if that's also what the singer thinks, then multiply my original criticism by 100!
