The little stud on the end of the pocket clip, while it looks like a glass breaker it is actually designed to look like the top of an ink pen so as to lull would be attackers into thinking your a nerd instead of a knife wielding threat to their life... Thats also the reason the pocket clip rides so low in the pocket so as to conceal everything but that "end of the pen" ZT needs to make a flip flop that turns into a machete so we can dual wield our pen knives and machete flops and decapitate BG's
Please talk more about the locking mechanism in future reviews or even comment here if you have the time. This is such a huge part of any folder and so many people fail to discuss it in depth. Pro's, con's, tests for strength, etc. Anyone who has had a lock fail on them will never fully trust a folder again and thus, the strength of the lock, and the likelihood of unintentional unlocking by the user (e.g. moving the knife in such a way that the lock is disengaged) is very important. Thanks!
For 50 you can't really get a knife that will last you for years of hard use, but if your planning to just sit on your arse opening letters with it, then yeah i guess don't spend more, but if your military, like me, then a 50 dollar folder will not last me more than maybe 8 months, so i would rather spend like 200 dollars or more for a knife that will last me at the vary least 5 years than 50 dollars avery few months, at is actually cheaper in the long run.
i just got this knife but mine dosent have a class braker on the clip and the finish on the clip an pivot are really scratched an crappy looking is that normal
There's no reason for them to look scratched. if it bothers you, I'd have Kershaw replace it.
The clip was replaced in early production because apparently it was way too hard to remove from the pocket. For whatever reason, the "glass breaker" was removed during that time. I actually talked to the prez of Kershaw about this, and he claims the thing isn't a glass breaker at all, although this mystifies me.
@whateverfast22 it's a lock designed by the HAWK guys and used in some of their customs and in the RAM and the MUDD. It's a very good lock...I recommend the RAM.
It is a very cool piece. Love the lock, the pivot and the sealed mechanism. If I'm getting one more ZT blade, it will probably be that one. I have a black carbon fiber 0300 now.
it looks like an awesome knife just the only thing that would make me not buy it is the pocket clip, not one for the deep style i like some "booty" to grab on to.
Cool ZT...I think you should try to speak more clearly and keep the sound constant...Seems like you got quite and kinda hard to hear at some points...just something to think about man. Still a soild and detailed review.
beautiful knife, i like its versatility, perfect for if you crash into a lake and have to cut your seatbelt off and break the window to climb out :) nice review!
cool review as always. i got a knife you should check-out. cold steel's Rajah I & II i got both. huge knives 14" open. get this a folding version of a kukri or ghurka knife. you got to see it...you put it in your hand and you want to start an uprising!!! lol!!!
I'm not being critical of the knife, you just said you were really excited about getting it and then didn't say why, but did point out some bad things about it :P
There are plenty of nice features like the neoprene seals around the pivot and grippy G-10 overlays, the "lock is very secure and it feels awesome, i love using it" is what I said.. sounds pretty positive to me :P
at least the blade design is a straight not recurved, making sharpening on stones much more easily achieved.the "ken onion" type of blade curvature is a pain in the ass.....

Seems overpriced for what you get...There are other knives out there in this price range that are much more cost effective/value added.

If you ever owned a really nice and really durable knife then you' understand why some of us will pay more than $50 for a knife.

If you hold open the RAM/HAWK lock, can you wrist-flick out the knife (like with the ram)?

is that California legal?
flexicanhomie 3 years ago
The only things illegal here are automatic knives and butterfly knives. A manual (or assisted opening) knife can basically be any length.

bad design as far as the pocket clip goes, very rough surface making it HARD to use clip on pocket.needs to be smooth.
mrbeligos 3 years ago
i gave mine away,so hard to carry with pocket constantly being held by rough surface of side scale.
