Beauty and the Beast is BACK! I just saw on tv that the Beauty and the Beasty Broadway musical has returned! My guess is by popular demand. But it's back!

@toucanpuzzle It is true. I saw it back in July with my girlfriend. They've made some changes. The costumes are a little different. The sets and costumes are a little less detailed and there are less actors but that's probably because it's a tough economy and they had to start over from scratch. They've been forced to eliminate some minor scenes(at least for now) but they've added some nice new things, too! My girlfriend thought it was EXCELLENT! It's currently on tour! Look it up.

Little Mermaid is closing in August and it will have run for 685 performances. Compare that to Beauty & the Beast's 5,464 performances. Beauty should've stayed open!

I'll stand out there with you! See, we live in FL. We planned going on my 13th birthday 3years ago, needless to say my 13th birthday was in December...... Little Mermaid is a good show but...... Beauty and the Beast is Better. I'll join any cause that will bring the show back so I can see it in a version besides freshman and seniors. That's pretty good!! Every time I hear that song (the one from the Disney website), I want to cry. This was my favorite movie and one of my favorite Broadway shows. I've seen it twice, one of which was the final public performance. I really hope they revive it ("The Little Mermaid? Are you kidding me?!)

Beauty and the Beast will be coming back! I personally wrote to Roy Disney and I got a letter back saying that it will be back within 15 years! The Little Mermaid shouldnt last as long as Tarzan so Beauty and the Beast might come back then or a new musical The Hunchback of Notre Dame will open there!

My mistake on the esmeralda ending. She does indeed die in the musical. Disney finally pulls a grim and sad ending.

The reason why Hunchback never made it to broadway is its grim and dark transition to stage. In short, the german musical wasn't very "disney". it was lavish as Beauty and the beast but the atmosphere was near Victor Hugo's style, regardless of Esmeralda staying alive in the end. If it makes it way to broadway, disney has to pull some magic to make musical fairylike.

Thats why I think it would be so successful. Its because its almost a step away from the tradition Disney show which is usually bright and happy.

Honestly, its a risk for Disney. It happened with Aida and tarzan with different outcomes. Both Aida and Tarzan were mature but friendly musicals for the broadway soul, but it died out soon as the phenomenon came out of trend. Hunchback would be a HUGE risk.

Why would you say that the little mermaid wouldnt last as long as tarzan, have you seen its PERFECT run through? They're still doing some revisions with their preliminary runs to get the exact appeal of what audience want from it. It's not Beauty and the Beast, but its definitely much better than Mary Poppins or Tarzan.

When I visited NYC 3 weeks ago. I took a class under the hair dresser for B&TB. She said that she over heard some of the directors and producers talking about Disney possibly opening back up at the Richard Rodgers theatre where Tarzan closed in a few years. I HOPE SO!! :)

This is the rest of the comment..After the show I went outside and waited and got Steve Blanchard's autograph. He was so nice. He autographed everything he could get his hands on and was really nice to everybody, took pictures and talked to everyone. Van der Pol was very uncool and left the theater right after the show without signing any autographs. All in all, it was an amazingly emotional night and there wasn't a open seat in the house,it was a mistake to close the show. SAVE THE BEAST!

I saw it last night, and it was amazing! It was ovvious that the cast was totally milking the last show. After "Gaston" the cast held the last pose until everybody had quieted down. Everything the Beast did got a laugh and after Be Our Guest Belle got the auidence to give Lumiere a big round of applause and he took a really nice bow.

I totally agree with Bernal795 and karenhensz. Bret Shuford and Anneliese Van der Pol are the best and they should record the last show and make another CD with the final cast. Then it would have Anneliese singing "A Change in Me" which is just absolutely amazing.
