But then suddenly one day some clicked when I heard Suicide and other Comforts for the first time, and then I got it. Since that day I have a hard time enjoying other metal singers, especially all the newbies. What Dani does is so fucking unique and powerful it's ridiculous, and nobody can argue with his lyrical abilities, the guy's a poet, nuff said...

I see what you mean about wishing there was an older version. It's such a fantastic song, one of my favourites by them, and kicks off the album (Cruelty & the Beast) so well, however there's no evidence to show that they played it live back when Dani's voice could have handled it better, which is a real shame.

They did Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids on the Eleven Burial Masses concert though, so that's good enough I guess.

I know it is, I actually own both Heavy, Left Handed And Candid AND Eleven Burial Masses/Live Bait For The Dead. It was from 2001, just after Midian and around the time of Bitter Suites To Succubi.

His vocals started to go a bit on Damnation and a Day, and by the time they got round to touring for Nymphetamine they had really gone to hell. However, I've seen them on the Godspeed tour twice and his vocals are definitely improving again, although into a different style than the earlier days.

Dani WAS losing his voice... he drank and smoke too much... besides, age is getting to him. But now he is much more better and his live screams are near as those from Heavy, left-handed and candid DVD (2001). Can't wait to hear the new album (2010). It has lots of keyboards and it's nastier than Godspeed.

Supposedly. They said Godspeed would be their heaviest album and like a mix of Dusk and Midian and ... well it wasn't. It was okay, though. Better than Thornography anyway.

I don't think Dani losing his voice was to do with drinking or smoking, as most metal vocalists do both those things and can keep their voice, I think it's more that his technique (the really high ones) is harder to keep up than more traditional vocal fare.

But yes, it is coming back. Slowly.

The glossy sound of Midian & the EP after that were cool, but they lost the plot big time with subsequent albums & all this Tim Burton bollocks, they were cooler when it was more Hammer Horror.
