When I sent Ms. Pickens a email asking why she doesnt purchase the SA horses that are in the greatest danger, she replied she didnt have the money. Yeah, right. Wife of a billionare doesnt have the money. Now she is lobbying for a senator to cut the budget. This is after she didnt get her way and was turned down by the BLM because she couldnt meet the req. Sounds like a spoiled child. The horses she has purchased and are out there are also NOT mustangs. If she cared she would buy SA horses .
While Pickens does have a good heart in wanting to help, though she too is in it for the buck. She wants to charge the government more than long term holding facilities contractors are paying, and she wants to be paid for keeping them on government land! As well as charging the public to see them. They would still be the property of the citizens, so we in a sense would be paying her. LTH contractors get $475 per horse per year, she wants $500 per horse per year for life.
Fantastic work. The world needs more compassionate people. There is enough brutality and bloodshed for all species going on. My wish for the cattle ranchers is extiction, move on to ethical, sustainable businesses. The cattle ranchers make out like they are doing something good when they are in the business of bloodshed, environmental destruction and causing health problems and death in we humans, who are actually physiologically designed to eat a plant based diet. I've been collecting signatures and writing letters on behalf of mustangs since 6th grade in 1972. Thank goodness for the power of the internet and Madeleine Pickens! Finally, a real push back at the bully cattlemen, whose cattle ruin and waste precious resources that could feed thousands more per acre, even with mustangs running around.
The ranchers are going to go out of business anyhow. In a few years In vitro meat will be starting to be sold.
More technological unemployment but in this case a good one. No one will have to run cattle where the horses go.
So there is much call for a resource based economy and not for the current dying money system so if we can keep the wild horses there in the long run they will be fine because there will be about no cattle on the range when you can grow the meat in a vat.

God has given you the task of stopping the greedy cattle ranchers who only care about money, yes they have a right to a way of life; but they don't have the right to kill the lives of other's. Years ago they drove sheep off cliffs because of the cattle, these same cattle go to horrific touchier at the slaughter house's. Do the cattle ranchers care..NO!, it's all about money. The BLM would not allow any of the captive wild American horses to be released to run free on the land Madeleine had purchased for them, but they allow them to live in squalid conditions in pens unmonitored by the public and at mega tax payer's expense and to be slipped off to slaughter.

North America's wild horses and the United States government / the Obama administration, is NOT above it's own country's law to arbitrarily and haphazardly, roundup, destroy and zero out a species that is "protected" by law! This is OUR law, these are OUR horses, OUR public lands, NOT THE GOVERNMENT'S and NOT CORPORATIONS who control elected officials and the government of the United States!
Private funds should not have to be spent to protect the protected!!
@debschroer Yes, horses were here originally -- but they left the continent over the previous Alaska land bridge to Asia, with any remaining becoming extinct. Horses were reintroduced to N. America by the Spanish while exploring the "new world" in the 1700's. That doesn't mean they are not wild horses -- but the wild ones here now have not "always been here". I heartily support Mrs. Pickens' efforts to establish a mustang monument.
