For those about to call me out, keep in mind the LAV is an armored vehicle that can take a lot of punishment (and could use a AC upgrade) and that contrary to popular belief, damn IEDS go off at least 10 times a day in each city and dosent always result in death or injury (the taliban have a habit of being high while making them). My buddy uncle (a royal marine in the helmend) was unlucky enough to hit two in one day that killed his vehicle but only left him with a few bruises.
a little off topic here, but why does the medic guy refer to to his buddy as "sir" instead of "Sgt?" I'm a Sgt in cadets and even though i am not exactly the real deal, i will (and do) give a beating anybody who calls me sir (I work for a living). Im asking not to make fun at the video, but it looks like the guy who planned it out got most of his stuff right (Minus the reaction when they hit the IED, the first reaction of most of the guys when they hit an IED in a LAV is to go for a smoke break
Few years ago my mom went to afganistane for 6 months im so glad she came back but its so sad for the soldiers that lost their lives and what their families are feeling, just thinking about it makes me want to cry :(
I have heard this song so many times. But I cry every time I watch it :'( But I am so thankful. We take everything for granted, but they are risking their lives for us! We complain because we don't get the new jeans we wanted. But they are putting their lives at risk. Before you worry about something silly, think about the soldiers who are dying for us. <3
This is a beautiful song, and the first time I heard it, it stopped me in my tracks. This video is beautiful as well, though it is a song that many people can relate to in many different forms, from military families to someone losing someone they loved dearly (family, friend, co-worker, etc.). One of the reasons I love music as much as I do.
I hope that one day soon I will take upon the burdens of being a member in the Canadian Armed Forces. The pay is terrible and the risk is high but I'm okay with that. I want to enlist so that others won't have to. God bless the courageous men and woman who answer the call.
Im wearing my warmest jacket, and I have the fireplace going... and this song gives me chills because my uncle went to Bosnia, and my Captain went to Bosnia to, I am currently a Royal Canadian Army Cadet, and I will be, until I graduate high school, and join the army, I hope my parents, and sisters never get the phone call, or have someone knocking on the door, but if that's what happens, I hope they'd know I died, trying to keep them safe

I love the canadian military...... every time i watch a video of our troops i break down and cry..... i am planning to join the forces as soon as an opening is available, i want to join these men and women to make a difference in the world, people don't appreciate what these people are give up for their country.
i am a private combat/field engineer in resserves maybe switching to driver and this video and song chokes me up so much, its so beautiful and its so nice to have a song dedicated to our troops cause there just isnt enough! support our troops!
I've meet a few honorary COL/CAPT(N) and i will say, this man deserved his rank more then most of them. Bless our troops that died fighting, and respect those who came home alive. when you see a WWII ones, as there arnt to many of the left, listen to thier stories while you can. READY AYE READY
This is a beautiful song, it gets me everytime. If you like George Canyon's "I Want You to Live" you might also like my inspirational song "Beautiful Ride" that I wrote after the loss of a loved one. I know this video is supposed to be about the millitary and I do support them, nbut for me this song is about someone else. A month ago I was told my grandad was dying and a few days later, he did. I cried so hard when they told me he was going to die and I screamed that I wanted him to live. And so this song I dedicate to my Grandad, I love you R.I.P Grandad....
@vampwolfgirl98 i know how you feel my grandmother died. I went to sleep one night and woke up the next moring to find out that my grandmother died. R.I.P Grandmother. I feel your pain

The physical and mental streign is not something you can replicate, but you can help yourself by training like you've never trained before. Train all day, I know it sounds stupid but that's what you need. Do your hardest training a couple weeks before course so you can recover. Also train with sleep deprevation. I pulled an all nighter before my hardest day of training.
man this song is sad and it scares me because i want to join the canadian forces when im of age but i think of what my families life would be like if i was to die god keep all the past, present, and future soldiers
this song is so touching ... i get goose bumps every time i hear it ... and its so hard to watch this video .... God Bless all of our Military that go out there and fight for us to be safe each and every day of our lives .... May all of them come home safe and sound.
@Salvetory This is probably the best explanation I've ever heard.. I've served for years and always have a difficult time putting my reasons into words..this did it in 1 sentence
@joebrosweetiepie The Sergent was hit and the medic (his next door neighbout and buddy) went to save him when an explosion went off killing the medic but sparing the Sergeant who would recover from his wounds and return home to his family. The phrase "I want you to live" was written by the medic in a "death letter" to his wife to be delivrered in case he died. He was telling her he wants her to live her life and go on without him.
Powerful video and song. My friend lost his 21 year son in Afghanistan. RIP Andrew Miller and to all our men and women who didn't come home to their families. You will never be forgotten and thank you for fighting for us.
@NatahsaTbird777 its sad that these people are in afghanistan in the first place, THESE PEOPLE DONT HAVE TO DIE! i support the troops because they are unselfish and are willing to risk their lives
@NatashaTbird777 i dont know if ur talkong about george or not, but george is still alive and sadly, living with type 1 diabetes. the same horrible disease that my sister has.
@iRockish I was talking about a marine friend that actually showed me this song. He died a short time ago. I think this song is well made but it hurts because it makes me think about all the young men and woman that die for people who dont even give a fuck.
xx RIP may you find the peace in death, that you could not find in life. I was lucky to have known you for the short time that I did. May we meet again.
i am a us army vet and i served 2 deployments in iraq. i was going to write a in case i dont make it back letter but its really diffucult. i couldnt do it, the words wouldnt be enough.
i'm not the type of person that cries often, but this song really touched me and we should all feel for the families that have lost loved ones that have served canada in the armed forces
I truly think the ones that are left home when these brave men and women go away to fight for us,exude a strength unlike anything else.It is amazing how they can keep going everyday while their loved ones are fighting daily for our freedoms.I truly applaud thse brave ones for carrying on and for having that strength. They amaze me and I commend them for their selfless love and compassion.
my ex brother in law is in the Canadian Forces with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light infantry and he's done a tour in Kahtar and one in Afganistan. Alot of us were scared that he wouldn't come home, mostly for my nephews sake. My boyfriend is in the reserves, getting ready to transfer into the Canadian Armed Forces and everyday it scares me that one day he might have to go overseas and not come home...this song hits me hard...
im in air cadets and some day i want to be in the canadian forces one day. my dad lost his best friend to afghanistan. it destroyed him. up until then i had never seen my dad cry. he was also one of my friends furture step father. he took a piece of mey father and my friend with him.
This song gets me crying almost every time I listen to it. My dads cousin is in the Armed Forces and has almost not come back. I was in Army Cadets in Westlock AB and was in it for 2 years.
This song makes me sooo sad every time. My dad is a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, I live on a Canadian Forces Base, and many of my friends have parents who are also in the military. The last rotation in Afghanistan was the rotation from our town, so many of our parents were gone, and at times we thought our dads and moms might not come back, one friend had an actual scare that his dad wouldn't come home, and I bawled my eyes out. I can't imagine what his family went through.
i hope that one day this war crap all comes to an end it's because of wars that we're going to kill ourselves. if we could just put our diferences aside then maybe we could have peace. the soldiers risk it all to give us just one more day of freedom and everyone seems to just change the channel. i saw a flag at half mast a few weeks ago at the legion and i almost cried when i was told that when i had saluted the fallen hero i was actually insulting him since i hadn't earned the right to salute.
My husband and I have been told I was crazy to spend $1,200 to buy an autographed Calgary Flames jersey that was being auctioned off to raise money for the Calgary Military Family Resource Center. We tell people to watch this video and get back to us about whether or not I was crazy. So far no one has.
@AlbertaRose94 if it's to support those who keep us free and safe every day that we live then i say good on ya. no one seems to really know or respect those who faught in WWI and WWII anymore. to them it's a forgotten thing. so i say good on ya
@Breadon92 I have respect for ALL soldiers, regardless of which war. My grandpa was a bicycle courier in WWII so I might have a different attitude. I will never forget the look on a returning soldier's face when I gave him a 10% discount when he came through the drive thru at the restaurant I work at. I knew he was returning because his kit bag was in the back of the seat and I could see the airport tags on it.
@AlbertaRose94 with all the hell they've been through thats the least we can do right. i used to work at a fast food place myself and we gave discounts to those who we knew very well. if a war vet came in and paid 5 bucks for a 6 buck meal and was wondering if it was alright that he was off a few cents i would say it's alright because i already owe him 5 dollars change. so few people respect the war vets as much as they should nowadays.
This is an amazing song. It gets me everytime I listen to this. I end up bawling by the end. It's such an uncalled for twist, but unfortuantly it does happen. My dad is actually in the Canadian Forces, and he has served a tour in Afganistan. I was young when it happen, but my mother tells me all the time that I asked daily "Mommy? Is Daddy dead?" The scary thing is that he almost didnt come home. His 4 best friends died in a bombing, he left them 5minutes before to reload his amo. <3
@Summer1Verano i'm not a religious person, but in that circumstance you almost have to wonder if he really didn't have an angel on his shoulder. unfortuneatly i don't have the health standards to join the miitary so i can't be the hero that your father and his friends are. i'm sure his friends are now in heaven sharing a drink together and not crying that they're gone because they know how much of a difference they made and how many people they protected. all my respect goes to your dad/friends.
@Breadon92 I know that they'd all appreciate your respect and kind words, and its not only the people out there who are heros, i know that my dad does just as much, if not more, work now that hes a SAR Tech and works at home. But I know that someone must have been watching out for him and giving him a second chance.
@Summer1Verano My dad is also in the Canadian military he had similar experiences. He bought me my first Reba McEntire CD before he left and I cried myself to sleep listening to it every night. I remember the moment he told us he had to go... my mom and him were standing in front of us three kids and we just sat there and cried. Your dad was meant to make it out alive. XO stay strong.
@Summer1Verano wow that sounds just like my step father. He did two tours in Afghanistan, one in Kabul and one in Khandahar. On his one tour he was supposed to be in Rick Nolan's LAV but he missed it. I spend every day thanking god that he did.
that is why i want to join so my kids wont have to be there i want to make it safe for them idk about all of you but i plan to go ot the marine core to serve
Only problem with this song: The Department of National Defense will never -call- a family to confirm a KIA these days. They always send someone in person, usually the soldier's commanding officer.
Still a brilliant song though. Best hopes for all the guys deployed through Christmas and into the new year. You're doing good work boys.
Ever since I first saw this music video and heard the song.... my eyes well up with the opening chords. And I can't turn away or turn it off because it's just so beautiful!
@CrazyMunky84 Only pump's make fun of other trades. You evidently have no respect for the non combat arms. When in reality the three most important trades are non combat arms. Cooks, Supply Techs, and Medics. Without them no other trade could get their job done properly. Maybe after some time in you'll realize this.
@CrazyMunky84 First off, I'm not Private Wiebe. Private wiebe is my son, a US Army Ranger who was killed in Iraq last year. I'm WO Wiebe. So, you can go fuck yourself, and try to have a little respect for you brothers in arms. You ignorant little shit.
@CrazyMunky84 Who the fuck are you to call someone out you piece of shit? Who cares if he's lying? He makes a good point. How the fuck do you know who he is? It's people like you that make the Canadian public dislike soldier you arrogant prick.
i'm sorry but how callous does a person have to be to "dislike" this video? i can understand if you know nothing about george canyon, you might disapprove of his being in the uniform of a member of the canadian forces, but he is an honourary colonel in the forces (not sure what that means exactly, though) and is playing a medic as he was a student in a pre-medical program in university prior to his musical career.
This song is for solders but my dad was a police officer and was shot and killed. I have other friends who lost their dad as a police officer and i showed this song to them and we all cryed...
Just wanted to say thank you for everyone who supports our troops. My dad is currently over in Afganistan and my boyfriend is in the military also. This song reminds who lucky we are to have such great people to take care of our country! Please be greatful,I didnt have my dad as close to me as i wished growing up because he was there protecting us.I love you dad! Be safe xo
crying so heard right now My Husband is going to afgan next october it will be my first deployment and the scaryest thing Ill ever deal with

THEOUTLAW1997 10 months ago

AlbertaRose94 11 months ago
@AlbertaRose94 if it's to support those who keep us free and safe every day that we live then i say good on ya. no one seems to really know or respect those who faught in WWI and WWII anymore. to them it's a forgotten thing. so i say good on ya
Breadon92 11 months ago
@Breadon92 I have respect for ALL soldiers, regardless of which war. My grandpa was a bicycle courier in WWII so I might have a different attitude. I will never forget the look on a returning soldier's face when I gave him a 10% discount when he came through the drive thru at the restaurant I work at. I knew he was returning because his kit bag was in the back of the seat and I could see the airport tags on it.
AlbertaRose94 11 months ago

Breadon92 11 months ago 2

Only problem with this song: The Department of National Defense will never -call- a family to confirm a KIA these days. They always send someone in person, usually the soldier's commanding officer.
Still a brilliant song though. Best hopes for all the guys deployed through Christmas and into the new year. You're doing good work boys.

CrazyMunky84 1 year ago
@CrazyMunky84 Only pump's make fun of other trades. You evidently have no respect for the non combat arms. When in reality the three most important trades are non combat arms. Cooks, Supply Techs, and Medics. Without them no other trade could get their job done properly. Maybe after some time in you'll realize this.

i'm sorry but how callous does a person have to be to "dislike" this video? i can understand if you know nothing about george canyon, you might disapprove of his being in the uniform of a member of the canadian forces, but he is an honourary colonel in the forces (not sure what that means exactly, though) and is playing a medic as he was a student in a pre-medical program in university prior to his musical career.
