I normally drop the bannana's and green shells on common raced places.

Should i keep that to make my estimated rank of 2 Starts to 3 stars or must i use your way to KEEP the banna's?

Do what you want with the items you get. It doesn't really matter what you do with them, as long as you stay 1st and what not.

its a way to prevent getting hit by red shells...

Dropping them in common places is a great strategy online, as long as you keep at least one item behind you as much as possible. In single player its best just to keep what you have behind you at all times
