My Sliders (Oggi Knobbs) have scrapes on them, it doesnt mean I've dropped the bike, just from low/hard cornering :) That VMAX was nice man thanks for sharing
Definitely not a fan of these "stylish" frame sliders. You simply sacrifice too much protection. I'll take a traditional set of motosliders or equivalent any day.
Interesting vid. But all I can say is if I came up and saw some guy touching my bike there would be some serious problems ensuing extremely quickly afterward. i.e., don't mess with my bike or you get a free beating. perhaps not the best move.
Personally I think that sliders are 100% necessary. I have read a lot about bikes being put down and it can help salvage a little bit more. Too cute with the kid... "You fail..." *wack!*
My wife's Sprint ST was totaled because she dumped the bike at <25mph in some black gravel after midnight and the frame slider bent the front engine mount, where the slider came out. Big wide sliders are good for protecting your bike from a simple drop. Not so good in an actual crash at any kind of speed, if you're unlucky enough for it to hit at the wrong angle or get caught on something.
Both time i low-sided and didn't have sliders, only damage i would get is on bottom fairing, and engine cover, which actually saved the tank. If u have a slider bike could land on either side, causing more damage on top, handle bars, tail..etc...I have 2006 R6 (just my opinion)
I worked at a powersports shop, do not put engine sliders on!! they will damage and crack your engine case! if you buy metal ferring sliders GET PLASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!
i just love 80's bikes, they look so cool, i saw an '87 cbx250 and fell in love with them, and i wasa wondering, is that a good bike for me to start on? idk, i ride dirt bikes a lot, so its not quite start, but you get the idea...
@MCLARENFL Hagarra la ninja 250. Las chinas no sirven, puede que sea mas barata pero la ninja esta chingona y cuando la quieras vender para hagarrar una 600 o 1000 la vas a poder vender por casi lo mismo que te costo.
@svnelvn Go for the ninja as in my opinion looks cooler and lasts longer and when you are going to resell the bike to upgrade you will not loose a lot of money.
@svnelvn I have a hyosung gt250r and it's a great bike so far, after a year of riding not a single problem out of it. I abuse it harshly, so I would expect problems by now, BUT IT'S STILL GOOD. Great bike.
Got my Mod 2 test tomorrow morning. Its been a long and expensive road trying to get my full licence hopefully tomorrow it will all be over and I can take the bloody L plates off.
only thing you need to watch with sliders is that they do actually need to be able to slide, i see too many rubber ones, if you drop the bike they are fine, but if you slide out while riding the 'slider' will grip and the bike will be doing some pretty awesome somersaults, buy, plastic coated/metal ones
I got a 2011 as my first bike... and i'm watching and reading a lot about riding, but I have a question though.
I find the riding position on the 250R too "city" instead of "sport", so i have to get further back on the seat, but that makes me lose some contact with the tank, since i'm only 1,70m.
@Dalljalma I had a 250R as my first bike too. The riding position is more "sit up" than larger sports bikes. Don't worry about it. Eventually you'll (presumably) move on to a larger bike and I guarantee, sometimes you'll miss your "sit up" ninja on longer journeys. I'd recommend an ER6F as your first "big" bike. You'll still be sat up a bit but it will get you more used to the weight and torque of a larger bike.
@jonhunter1987 Thanks man. I know the ER6F... here its called ER-6N. But i think I will get a ZX-6 for my next bike. Some people say its a mistake cause you'll be sitting on a bike with more than 2 times the horsepower of the litle ninja.
But i'm very careful... and i dont rage when i'm driving... so... i think it would be fine to get that zx6.
@Dalljalma The ER6N is the "naked" version of the ER6F. F stands for "faired" and the N for "naked". They are the same bike other than that.
If you get some experience on your 250R and you're careful I agree you will probably be fine. I'm looking at something like the ZX6 for my next bike too! Beautiful bikes.
@Dalljalma It's fine to lose some contact with the tank. I ride a sv650sf and I'm 5 ft 6". thats a tiny bit less than 1.7m. But understand that 250 doesnt have an aggressive riding position; it wasnt meant for you to ride insanely aggressively. My sv650 doesnt have an aggressive riding position either. You'll learn to appreciate the "city" position once you move up to a uncomfortable track machine. hahaha
@tristantao Hahahaha... yeah... i thinki i will. The problem is that i was holding the bike with something like 1/3 of the top part of my leg... and because of that i was holding it more with my arms. And thats a problem.
@Dalljalma yes, what youre doing wrong is moving back in the seat. sit in it normally. the ninja has a pretty upright seating position, and thats the way its meant to be.
FYI the engine case "sliders" are not a replacement for frame sliders; they serve different purposes. I'm planing on buying a bike when I go to college. But I scared of crashing and ending up on a wheelchair or being mentally impaired due to the brain trauma or ending up quadriplegic.
Once you start riding a bike do you get over those fears?? or do you just don't think about it?
@1775edde If this is honestly how you feel about riding, you don't belong on a motorcycle. You can't pilot a bike if you're truly scared; you WILL get hurt. It's normal to be a little nervous when you first start, but it is NOT normal to think "I'm going to die or be paralyzed" before you even get on one. Some fear is healthy; it will keep your speed down and help you make good decisions. Decide whether your fear is healthy or irrational; I can't determine this based on a single post.
@chiangxiong First of all, if my fears were as strong as you think they are I wouldn't even be thinking about getting a bike. I'm not stupid enough to go buy a potential death machine without even researching it first. I've researched statistics and watched some crash videos on youtube, Most of the guys didn't got up, of course most of the guys didn't had protective gear. I'm determined on getting a bike without a doubt. I was just asking some concerns I had that statistics don't show.
@1775edde Then you've answered your own question. Buy some gear (helmet, gloves, boots, jacket, and maybe pants), take the MSF course, start on a small bike, and ride like a m****rf***er :)
@chiangxiong No I Didn't Answered my question. My question was that " Once you start riding do you get over those fears fast?" So only people who ride can answer it. I haven't rode a motorcycle so I CAN'T answer my question for this one.
@1775edde You expressed your resolve to ride; by doing so you've shown you're willing to accept some risk. For you, fear will likely be reduced greatly, but it will never go away completely; this is a good thing. Individuals with a sense of invulnerability are the ones that don't last long. Beyond that no one can say exactly how much confidence you are going to gain. I wear full race level safety gear on the street, but I don't really ever think about being injured.
@1775edde The fear goes away a bit, but not all the way. If you rode without being a little scared you're kind of foolish. In my opinion the fear keeps you prepared and looking around for dangers.
dude i fell out of my chair laughing so hard when he said" that all Chinese, you fail". the look on his kid face was priceless. i thought it was all over till he slap his dad than i cry and laugh at the same time priceless vid.
Here in my city in Canada anyway you can't have sliders on your bike on tracks, and anything glass has to be taped up or removed. Your antifreeze has to be drained and your coolant has to be replaced with water.
@djmussy18 Yeah pretty much. It is clear and makes the track slick so they don't want it on there. They offer motorcycle training at the track where you can have it, but on track days or courses for racing they don't allow it. That's here in Calgary
Polyurethane sliders are going to be more forgiving than metal, and bonus, cheaper! You didn't mention bar end sliders but they are the other important part in making sliders effective.
There is a CBR 600RR parked outside that the owner moves around for street cleaning. It has no sliders and one day the owner dropped it. Seems like a waste but then again I have seen that bike sit in front of the house for about two months now with the engine never started. I guess he just doesn't care about it.
The sliders that stick out might even make MORE damage to the bike if the slider gets hold on something like grass and that will make the bike fly up in the air. And now you have a bike in 1000 pices, the "built in" sliders looks very nice.
i faved it for the last segment lol and i bought a set of those low profile sliders for a Buell 1125R but i got a Sportster that is completely gone through instead.
I can't imagine those smaller sliders working well, because that means in order for it to work, the ground is gonna need to be completely flat so that the slider will hit first.
Sliders aren't a good idea. I was going to get them on my new bike but the guy at the store told me to forget it. If you fall off at speed, they grab into the road and flip around.
They don't let you on most race tracks apparently if you get them here in Australia.
@Leagle18 The majority of motorcycle drops happen at low speeds.....ALL of mine have been like that. And in those cases.....they help a lot. And now that I think about it....they help at our race track as well....as I've seen many bikes crash.....and almost all of them are saved by the sliders. The only case a slider might not help would be a 60mph+ crash......and you're kinda fucked anyway then.
word, been riding for 5 years or so, and each bike I have owned except one has had sliders, Went down on both the one with sliders and without, sliders saved my bike from much worse damage, both times I went down was at low and higher speeds.
@13mordeth Oh. My bad. That'd be about right. It seems everyone thinks I'm going to fall off taking a corner at 100km/h, caught up in the bike and it'll flip over. haha. Although, as I said they aren't allowed on the tracks here. So I probably won't be getting them.
@13mordeth FYI everyone at the track here in NH run sliders. I'd probably double-take if I saw a nice bike without them. Some claim the plastic type is better because they wear away and are less likely to grab the road. If you lowside they'll help protect the plastics and the engine case. If you highside they'll just help bend the frame, but in that situation the frame is as likely to bend without them on. For the street run them, for the track run them unless they are prohibited.
@13mordeth It all depends on the surface that you go down on. I bought a wrecked R6 that had a slider and when it went down it bent the slider and possibly damaged the frame. Also it stripped the engine case where the slider or motor mount would thread in. The shorter the slider the better.
@Leagle18 the guy at the store would probably prefer to sell you replacement panels etc. for your bike when it gets damaged from low speed drops; more profit in that than sliders :)
@barrkel Word, don't listen to a salesman; listen to seasoned riders. Hell, youtube frameslider crash videos and watch exactly what they do. 'Nuff said.
@Leagle18 Depends on the type of crash. I high sided at the track at 140+ km/hr and the sliders saved a large portion of the bike. The fairing still needed to be replaced but it saved a lot of the critical components on the engine.
@Leagle18 They let you on all Victorian tracks as far as I know - but personally I don't use them - I'm more willing to take some fairing damage than writing off a bike during flips.
They're invaluable in low speed, and in high speed it's more luck than anything - there are plenty of other things for a bike to catch on.
@Recon9143 do you know anything about harleys? umm they are american made and thats why they are so popular in the states if there were any over there is taiwan i would be surprised
@sniping12 How does my comment infer to you that I do not know anything about Harley's? There is bikes from all different countries in America so why wouldn't there be Harley's in Taiwan? I was just asking does he ever see any riders who ride on a Harley. Not a big deal it was directed to m13 not really you.
@vrgnforever the swingarm is the piece that holds your rear tire...and they extend them to reduce the likeliness of a wheelie...some do it to give it the "Long & Low" look...low riders...but it was originally done by hill climbers that didn't want the bike to "loop out"...
Hahahaha! I liked the way you said "Ah that's nice." when the Vmax arrived, just like a woman seeing some new curtains she likes. And not like a dude checking out the arrival of one of the hardest looking, fastest accelerating, naked bikes available in the market today! ;¬)
I had to drill holes in my fairings but they Woodcraft sliders and didn't bend like the other non drill sliders. Those case sliders are actually much better, at high speeds I don't want sliders that stick out too much cuz they can bend easily and damage the frame as well as flip the bike

Here in my city in Canada anyway you can't have sliders on your bike on tracks, and anything glass has to be taped up or removed. Your antifreeze has to be drained and your coolant has to be replaced with water.
b4igetu 1 month ago
@b4igetu WOW...Why????? because it might leak or something?
djmussy18 1 month ago
@djmussy18 Yeah pretty much. It is clear and makes the track slick so they don't want it on there. They offer motorcycle training at the track where you can have it, but on track days or courses for racing they don't allow it. That's here in Calgary

@13mordeth What do you record these vids with?
Ananimass 1 month ago
Polyurethane sliders are going to be more forgiving than metal, and bonus, cheaper! You didn't mention bar end sliders but they are the other important part in making sliders effective.
McGTexas 1 month ago
There is a CBR 600RR parked outside that the owner moves around for street cleaning. It has no sliders and one day the owner dropped it. Seems like a waste but then again I have seen that bike sit in front of the house for about two months now with the engine never started. I guess he just doesn't care about it.

Yep..sator and clutch cover sliders. Generally those are partnered with your frame sliders not used in stead of..
Lots o aftermarket rear sets there, looked like Gilles Tooling are the brand of choice there. Lots of sparkly annodized CNC'd jewelry....

@gpc510 Same hear, but I use them as axial sliders. Handguards are my main frame slider. But I'm on a Supermoto so its a bit different.

The sliders that stick out might even make MORE damage to the bike if the slider gets hold on something like grass and that will make the bike fly up in the air. And now you have a bike in 1000 pices, the "built in" sliders looks very nice.

I can't imagine those smaller sliders working well, because that means in order for it to work, the ground is gonna need to be completely flat so that the slider will hit first.
EternalEnergy316 1 month ago
Sliders aren't a good idea. I was going to get them on my new bike but the guy at the store told me to forget it. If you fall off at speed, they grab into the road and flip around.
They don't let you on most race tracks apparently if you get them here in Australia.
Leagle18 1 month ago
@Leagle18 The majority of motorcycle drops happen at low speeds.....ALL of mine have been like that. And in those cases.....they help a lot. And now that I think about it....they help at our race track as well....as I've seen many bikes crash.....and almost all of them are saved by the sliders. The only case a slider might not help would be a 60mph+ crash......and you're kinda fucked anyway then.
13mordeth 1 month ago 31
@13mordeth
word, been riding for 5 years or so, and each bike I have owned except one has had sliders, Went down on both the one with sliders and without, sliders saved my bike from much worse damage, both times I went down was at low and higher speeds.
TofuProductionCinema 1 month ago
@13mordeth Oh. My bad. That'd be about right. It seems everyone thinks I'm going to fall off taking a corner at 100km/h, caught up in the bike and it'll flip over. haha. Although, as I said they aren't allowed on the tracks here. So I probably won't be getting them.
Leagle18 1 month ago
@13mordeth on a race track most of the corners are at 60mph+, so i dont see your argument
Lindholmer5k 1 month ago
@13mordeth FYI everyone at the track here in NH run sliders. I'd probably double-take if I saw a nice bike without them. Some claim the plastic type is better because they wear away and are less likely to grab the road. If you lowside they'll help protect the plastics and the engine case. If you highside they'll just help bend the frame, but in that situation the frame is as likely to bend without them on. For the street run them, for the track run them unless they are prohibited.
chiangxiong 1 month ago
@13mordeth It all depends on the surface that you go down on. I bought a wrecked R6 that had a slider and when it went down it bent the slider and possibly damaged the frame. Also it stripped the engine case where the slider or motor mount would thread in. The shorter the slider the better.
Jeremybaland 1 month ago
@Leagle18 the guy at the store would probably prefer to sell you replacement panels etc. for your bike when it gets damaged from low speed drops; more profit in that than sliders :)
barrkel 1 month ago
@barrkel He knows I'm buying aftermarket fairings though haha.
Leagle18 1 month ago
@barrkel Word, don't listen to a salesman; listen to seasoned riders. Hell, youtube frameslider crash videos and watch exactly what they do. 'Nuff said.
chiangxiong 1 month ago
@Leagle18 Depends on the type of crash. I high sided at the track at 140+ km/hr and the sliders saved a large portion of the bike. The fairing still needed to be replaced but it saved a lot of the critical components on the engine.
not4resale 1 month ago
@not4resale Hmm, do you remember which brand you had?
Leagle18 1 month ago
@Leagle18 They let you on all Victorian tracks as far as I know - but personally I don't use them - I'm more willing to take some fairing damage than writing off a bike during flips.
They're invaluable in low speed, and in high speed it's more luck than anything - there are plenty of other things for a bike to catch on.
Personally, I don't use them.
murchyss 1 month ago
@murchyss Hmm, yes I think you're right. New fairings aren't too expensive.

whats an extended swingarm
vrgnforever 1 month ago
@vrgnforever the swingarm is the piece that holds your rear tire...and they extend them to reduce the likeliness of a wheelie...some do it to give it the "Long & Low" look...low riders...but it was originally done by hill climbers that didn't want the bike to "loop out"...

I had to drill holes in my fairings but they Woodcraft sliders and didn't bend like the other non drill sliders. Those case sliders are actually much better, at high speeds I don't want sliders that stick out too much cuz they can bend easily and damage the frame as well as flip the bike
