  • who is the actor?

  • @artemis101814 It's Colm Wilkinson. The original Jean Valjean in 1985 in London then to Broadway in 1987. There, it's 10th anniversary Concert in 1995. You can see him also in 25th anniversary at the end in Valjean Quartet " Bring Him Home" and in "One Day More" with the original London cast of 1985.

  • I saw him in london in 2010. he totally stole everybody else's show.

  • I want him to be my grandpa!>.<

  • Maybe the greatest song by one of the greatest theatre greats

  • His fuckin upper lip, lmfao

  • A perfect example of a Legend in the theater and an Epic song!

  • Whenever need to use a drawing on essay test questions I always name it Figure 24601.

  • Jean Valjean is awesome enough to have an ad on his YouTube video.

    And that's pretty awesome.

  • 2460111111!!! :)

  • What i am most looking foward from the Les Mis movie is Hugh jackman "I'm JEAN VAL JEAN"

    He'll be pretty good

  • @DHRbarnett I wish he was Javert though...

  • I just wanna give him a big hug, he has like the greatest grandpa beard ever :D

  • Amazing!!!!

  • and THIS is the man playing the bishop in the movie... YES!

  • Such a voice!

  • colm wilkinson wins at life

  • The ending where he is yelling 24601...it gives me chills!!!

  • Does anyone just want to see Javert's face when he Valjean tells everyone who he is? omg haha

  • Colm Wilkinson is the greatest singer who has ever lived!

  • I love this song but....

Pause the song and press 6 nice and fast so he can eat the yummy dot.

P.S -- How many balls does Lance Armstong have?

    ~Press 9 to find out!

  • This is great never grows old

  • @lost619

    +1)) its amazing

  • Et si vous voyez Javert, c'est vrai, cet homme ne porte pas plus de culpabilité que vous! Qui suis-je? Deux quatre six zéro une!

  • [me] why the hell are we quoting the lyrics when you can listen to them???

  • [VALJEAN] He thinks that man is me He knew him at a glance! That stranger he has found This man could be my chance! Why should I save his hide? Why should I right this wrong When I have come so far And struggled for so long? If I speak, I am condemned. If I stay silent, I am damned!
  • @sasukecz cool story bro. its not like we were all just listening to that same song.

  • @sasukecz SPAM?

  • I am the master of hundreds of workers. They all look to me. How can I abandon them? How would they live If I am not free? If I speak, I am condemned. If I stay silent, I am damned! Who am I? Can I condemn this man to slavery Pretend I do not feel his agony This innocent who bears my face Who goes to judgement in my place Who am I? Can I conceal myself for evermore? Pretend I'm not the man I was before? And must my name until I die Be no more than an alibi?
  • Must I lie? How can I ever face my fellow men? How can I ever face myself again? My soul belongs to God, I know I made that bargain long ago He gave me hope when hope was gone He gave me strength to journey on [He appears in front of the court] Who am I? Who am I? I am Jean Valjean! [He unbuttons his shirt to reveal the number tattooed to his chest] And so Javert, you see it's true That man bears no more guilt than you! Who am I? 24601! junt some lyrics for completition
  • @sasukecz ??????

  • Listening to Colm sing with my eyes closed makes me imagine Sean Connery as Valjean... And then I am happy

  • colm wilkinson>john owen jones=alfie boe>ramin karimloo

  • Colm Wilkinson was perfect for Jean Valjean just as Michael Crawford was perfect for the Phantom and George Hearn was for Sweeney Todd :)

  • WTF, he's the worst, his fucked accent and the yelp at the end... -_-

  • @AlienMidget123 Aw, Someone's an Alfie Boe fan?

  • @AlienMidget123 excuse me? He's the best! And the original! Of course Alfie Boe is great but this guy IS Jean Valjean. He's also got a more original voice, and Alfie sounds like any other good tenor. Colm is awesome. >:P

  • @34RiverStone He's okay. He's the original, so he'll always be the real Valjean in our hearts, but that doesn't make him better. He does have an original voice, but Alfie is very operatic and powerful, which I think really fits. Valjean is a strong man by many means, but there are some vulnerabilities that he has, and Alfie displays that well throughout his performance. No one actor "is Valjean." They are all Valjean in their own way.

  • @TheAxelMan100 i have to admit that i agree with what you just said. Well said! But personally, i prefere Colm, but maybe that's because i'm so used to him.

  • @34RiverStone Yeah, there's no problem with that lol I love him, anyway, despite what I said;)

  • @34RiverStone We could end this right now. I watched Ramin Karimloo yesterday playing Valjean HE is the best. He like, breaths Valjean. And his voice. Wow.

  • @AlienMidget123 Yeah, I agree. Ramin is truly awesome, which i realized after listening to his version of bring him home. Maybe he is better as a singer, and maybe Alfie is better too, but I'm just so used to Colm as Jean Valjean that he seams to fit the part like a glove to me. But it's probably just because i'm so used to him being Valjean. But you have to admit, the guy can sing, whether the others are better or not. At least in my opinion. And don't hate on the yelp at the end dude.

  • @34RiverStone Lol, alright, i wont hate on the yelp, and yh, he can sing.

  • @AlienMidget123 Ramin is a God

  • @AlienMidget123 I would LOVE to see Ramin as Valjean. I can see him tearing that part to shreds with his teeth.

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • 2, 4, 6, 0hhhhhh Wuhhhhhhhhhhhh-NUH!!! Love it

  • That squeak at the end almost spoiled it for me...

  • Not only does Colm Wilkinson have an incredible voice and some awesome acting skills... but he has the ability to make his eyeballs pop out of his face.

  • Is les Mis making a come back to the stage? I would love to see it again!

  • @iheartRupertGrint21 don't know where you are but Les Mis has never left the West End for the last 25 years .. don't know about Broadway

  • @ScotsCraig32 Les Miz left broadway years ago, which is an utter shame. I'm surprised that it hasn't come back yet with the 25th anniversary production.

  • The person who got the 24601st view on this is a lucky bastard.

  • @Jackman24601 or really unlucky. he's condemned or damned.

  • @Jackman24601 Not even lying, that was actually me. I was so freaked out.

  • @Jackman24601 lmao awesome!

  • @Jackman24601 lol'd

  • @Jackman24601 what?

  • @Jackman24601 no longer applicable.

We need a new Top Comment!

  • i wonder how ramin karimloo will do...

  • @rayanneflowers What do you mean? Is he set to be the next Valjean?

  • @GreatWhiteBrow yup. and hadley fraser is set to play javert. :)

  • Colm is the man, he dominates Alfie

  • @TheTimmae21 How so? I think it's the other way around, but that's just me.

  • @TheAxelMan100 I think Colm has a more original voice. Alfie just sounds like any other tenor. Plus, Colm actually looks strong enough and same age of Valjean in the story.

  • @TheTimmae21 Yeah, he's got a more original voice, but Alfie doesn't show signs of struggle when he sings like Colm does. Colm tenses up to reach those high notes, but Alfie does it with ease and with more power. Alfie is very operatic, that's what makes him the better singer. Colm is a pretty good actor and he has a good look for Valjean, but so does Alfie. Alfie's a good singer, actor, he's got great charisma, and he's got a very good look for the role. Nearly everything about him was perfect.

  • the squeak was the best part!

  • I think Colm Wilkinson does a better part of Jean Valjean if your looking at a better emotional/acting part. Alfie Boe wins with the vocal part. Both brilliant performers.

  • It's freaky how he kinda looks like Liam Neeson lol. Anyway that high B is awesome! I don't really like that squeak at the end of the note though, it just doesn't sound nice to me.

  • 24,601 is my favorite number.

  • I still think Alfie Boe is better :P

  • only 677 views left til 24601

  • @justinthemagician2 aww I came here everyday to check the views. Haven't came here for the last few days and now look, 26846. damn, missed it

  • I'M 24601, BITCH.

  • Colm is brilliant but I prefer Alfie Boe.

  • When I think of Jean Valjean, I think of Colm. Even while reading the book, he's who I picture for the character. They're one in the same!

  • seriously, I love JOJ but I think he can't beat this man in this role...

  • I came at that last note

  • goosebumps !!! ive watched this video 131 times

  • Colm is the greatest. He is Valjean

  • IF only I could do anything like this man does....!! Oh good ness..!!! btw..are you as blatantly critical and assuming, that you have the breakdown answers for the performance of one Joe Cocker..?? or Bob Dylan..?? Sweeny Todd Fanatic is a few Kibbles short of a Bowl Full.

  • his face 1.21 :)

  • @bill7202 ikr

  • @bill7202 AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!

  • @bill7202 :O

  • @bill7202 his face 1.35 hihihih

  • @bill7202 I came back to watch this video after a while and when I read your comment I remembered exactly what the face looked like lmfao

  • the guy is one of the best singers ever, you can't criticize his singing technique, the guy is a god. he does it on purpose at the end, and personally i think it sounds unbelievable. what a voice and what a performance.

  • 1:16 in ...my fave x)

  • this is my favourite version of the song, i love watching the clip since his eyebrows are so active throughout...

  • Oh cmon man, it's anguish, he's ACTING

  • I like what happens, fits with the song and the desperation of the character..

  • Yeah, Colm does that on purpose all the time. I think it sounds nice. And besides, who's to say what's right or wrong? Personally, I think you shouldn't decressendo because it makes it much easier to go flat, and it can make for a dull ending if you just back off the note, but that's just my opinion, its not right or wrong.

  • I wouldn't say it cracks in a way that shows bad singin' I think he intends it, I mean I know it's a totally different ball park, but check out Day I Left The Womb by Escape The Fate

Listen to the emotion in the way he sings to explain my point

This man is acting and singin' and using his voice to that effect, not just to hit notes, singing is also about acting, you can get a distinction and still hit bum notes

  • It looks like he blatantly does it on purpose to me. Not that I know a lot about singing, but isn't it supposed to be for dramatic effect?

  • it doesnt crack, he just stops singing. when singing a note this high with tht much power when you stop singing and close your mouth that high squeak is what tends to happen

  • i prefer Colm's ending of this song, i prefer how he doesn't use falsetto but i love JOJ's bring him home, but theyre both fantastic

  • its a b folks its in the sheet music

  • actually nessun dorma is a c. sorry lol. at least the one Luciano performed was. it's written in many keys but this one is b

  • THIS IS YOU TUBE NOT PIRATE TUBE!

  • i know its a B because i sing with him on that part and im a girl. i do the B an octave higher though.

  • Yeah, FesistyFairy99 is correct. Its a B. Check it on any piano/guitar/whatever while the video is playing and you'll see.

  • he says the val part of jean valjean oddly

  • I'M JEAN VALJEAN!

  • B flat? it means that nessun dorma has a half note higher, cause nessun is B. but B flat is damn hard too.

  • Colm is definitely signing B not Bflat in this. In my vocal selections book its a Bflat, but those cannot be trusted. Nothing beats the ol' piano test.

  • Yup, I just bought a new digital tuner, and yeah it's high B, equivallent to the vincero of nessun dorma.

  • he reminds me of Sean Connery so much...lol

  • LOL! I was just saying to my brother how I always thought his speaking voice would be exactly like Connery's...I just, for the first time in my ten years of fandom, saw an interview where he speaks...and was shocked! LOL I totally was expecting a Connery voice, not lying.

  • which is the last note he belts??

  • I believe it's an F or F#... not sure.

  • thanks, so i can hit it

  • He is a truely blessed man

  • Oh my god. There is nobody that can do Jean Valjean quite as good as Colm Wilkinson can.

  • damn right, he rules jean valjean!
