I love this song. If you listen to Johnny Mathis' song Too Much Too Little Too Late and Laura Branigan's Gloria, you can definitely hear their influence in this song, I think that Alison did an amalgam/partial cover of their songs on I Wanna Life.
I LOVE THIS SONG! It totally captures the carefree attitude of the 70s but updates it with a harder, gritty beat. I want to fall in love to this song!
Alison has the best Voice - (Check out Goldfrapp - Utopia live at Somerset House) - You will not catch Lady Gaga and Madonna doing this, although I love them too, Alison's voice is just too powerful to compare.
@iamthevariable Yuck, I think Seventh Tree is the worst album of all the ones they have ever done. It's telling that they didn't perform a single song from that album on their latest tour. I hate that organic folksy sound, it doesn't fit them at all. I agree that Black Cherry is right up there at the top with Head First for me. I really like Rocket, Dreaming, Head First, Shiny and Warm and this track, I Wanna Life. I love when the bassline drops in this track.
@distprod Yeah, I think Seventh Tree is a really polarizing album. It's definitely the black sheep of their albums so far but I think it's genius. I'd go so far as to say it's in my top 10 albums ever.
She took ABBA and was able to modernize the style better than any other artist I've seen (even better than Confessions On A Dancefloor). THIS is real disco people!
One of the GREATEST artists around these days. This album, "Head First," is right up there with her best stuff. I saw her at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC on June 23rd, and it was the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lady Gaga and Madonna can't hold a candle to her!
@pd18750 Why do people keep comparing all of these "not-so-known-but-stil-very great artists to Lady Gaga? Just seriously quit the Lady Gaga hate. She's popular and there's an obvious reason for it so get over it.
@SugaryCow popularity doesn't mean quality. people like gaga existed before her. there were goldfrapp , roisin murphy, josipa lisac and countless others...
@pd18750 - I love Goldfrapp but it's really not fair to compare her to Madonna. Madonna is an international legend. Goldfrapp still hasn't been able to crack America. If you're an American too, you know that we're the only ones who have a clue who she is (and that's only thanks to trip hop). If it weren't for commercials playing "Strict Machine" and "Fly Me Away," Americans wouldn't get to hear her at all.
And lay off Lady Gaga. Don't be a music snob; there's plenty of room in pop for all.
I think this will definitely be the next single then if there do release another which they will probably do then it will probably be dreaming or beleiver
I just heard this song for the first time in my local Maurices clothing store and rushed home to jump online and find out who the singer/group was. I've never heard of this group but I LOVE this song! It is very early-1980s dance-sounding with great vocals. Love it!!
This song sounds like it should be in a montage scene in a movie from the 1980s.

@retromodeable if u r new to goldfrapp, their album supernature has some 70s-80s type songs, like number one, white horse and others

@UKKingArthur alisons voice sounds very natural to me. while other female singers either sound like men, little girls or space aliens

This album is still growing on me. To me Head First, while it has a few great tracks such as this one, wasn't up to snuff with the others.
1) Seventh Tree
2) Black Cherry
3) Felt Mountain
4) Supernature
5) Head First
