Yeah that guy is a jackass to everyone, not just other musicians. Portland is my home and I see this guy all the time down there and wherever he is, no one can be on any other corner within sight of him or he will either stink eye you or start with his smartass comments. Even the local fundraisers avoid him. I worked with one for a summer and the person who was training me warned me specifically to avoid him. He gives Portlanders a bad name, and I hope it doesn't stop you from returning.

It does seem to be awfully loud though, with the amps. Probably interfeering with the other violinist 3 blocks away

on the other hand, the other violnist is acting as if he had privatized the street, which is awful too.

@Voyksed Yeah once he approached and talked to Bryson rather rudely Bryson told him that all he had to do was ask him to turn it down and he would and he did. He still came back all huffy. The other violinist can be found if you type "Portland street violinist" and he is on top. There's a difference with coming to do a 3 song set for 20 minutes and boarding a street corner every day all day. All of the other street musicians were really cool though. They gave Bryson lots of respect and props.

Was he truly upset (I can't tell if it's that or utter shock)? You see him approaching him in the end, I wonder if he was just curious about your nephew's impressive audio set up. Do give this 'rival' a bit of credit at least, admittedly, it's hard to out-perform someone with an electric Vio with an amp *and* looping pedal board (busking can be a vexing trade). Nonetheless, your nephew is obviously very talented. Cheers.

The audience saw how he was treating Bryson and the Booed him and cheered Bryson to turn up his music and play more. Bryson told the guy that he would play one last song and leave. The other violinist was hesitant but he left. Bryson played one more song and then the audience was up to about 75 people cheering for more but he said he told the other violinist that that was the last song. The crowd was like....

@SillySeaWeed .... "screw that guy... he's a jerk, TURN IT UP ENCORE. He played one more song. The violinist came back yelling and trying to stop the show. I told him to backup. After Bryson played (3 songs total) he wanted to go check the other violinist out to pay respect. When we showed up the other violinist played a song and when he was done said... "now that's real talent right there... no tricks or gimmicks." Damn why an ass. I was fully ready to tip his case too but he'd gone too far.
