I agree with what everyone is saying about LA transplants and corporate assholes messing with the valley, but really it's all a matter of perspective...

I can still go on a bike ride, be close to nature, go to a lot of awesome shops, and still have good conversations with people over a beer or coffee.

I don't think that those things will go away anytime soon, and I'm really taking advatange of it now, becaise I didn't when I was a kid growing up here in the 90's.

@AragornIsStrider I'm gonna agree with skhooll on this one. Even if we allow Ojai to include it's surrounding annexes, there's little to be called awesome. Coffee Connection has decent coffee but their pastries are pathetic and Java & Joe has the most consistently bitter coffee in the valley. The end began with the demise of Bill Bakers and was finalized with the end of Ojai Video.

Actually, The Hub was pretty good (for me at least...) until 2007, when they closed and then redesigned it. It's garbage now. I much prefer Movino's and The Jester.

I guess I can't bring you guys around to see that Ojai is still awesome, as I've been democratically outvoted.

The question remains...are my standards too low, or are yours too high? I guess we have ourselves a "glass half empty/full" situation, and I'd much rather be on the side of positivity.

I've lived in Ojai for so long that I can name the three guys who actually blew up the original pergola...and they were not hippies, they were rednecks. I just want to add that today's Ojai suffers from too much smog, too many horses's asses moving in from Hollywood, and TOO DAMNED MANY REPUBLICANS.

I'm sure the redneck crew is blaming it all on Obama but really I think the city council and the developers are to blame. How long has the skate park been "promised"? The speculator syndrome over the last ten to fifteen years didn't help either. Oh well, change happens!

I first moved to Ojai when I was 9 years old (in '89.) Lived here until I was 18. The town was boring and the people got under my skin. Then I moved away, lived around California and Tennessee, and then came back...and fell in love with Ojai as an adult for all the reasons I disliked it as a kid. I love it's quietness and solitude. I love meeting and talking to so many diverse types of people over coffee or beers downtown. The stars are clear. Easy access to nature and camping. Absolute heaven.

Ive lived in Ojai all my life. Its a great town to grow up in. But as you get older, (as in teen years) theres nothing do to!!! Except maybe hangout down town for an hour until you get bored haha. But still, Ojais a lovely town it just gets boring for me somtimes.

It was nice in the 1970's when I grew up there. Completely different town now. I'll never forget attending Monica Ros school. Ojai went into the crapper when Hollywood moved north and took over the Arts Center.
