Three words: Ojai Beverage Company. The best (beer) place in the whole world! Believe me, I was born and raised in Germany, I know what I'm talking about. Absolute empfehlenswert für alle Landsleute, die nach gutem Bier und besserem Essen suchen! Cheers & zum Wohl!
Shhhhh.... don't let people know..! Have you seen Orange County lately? It used to be beet and citrus and now it's toll roads, congestion and tiny condos.
I agree with what everyone is saying about LA transplants and corporate assholes messing with the valley, but really it's all a matter of perspective...
I can still go on a bike ride, be close to nature, go to a lot of awesome shops, and still have good conversations with people over a beer or coffee.
I don't think that those things will go away anytime soon, and I'm really taking advatange of it now, becaise I didn't when I was a kid growing up here in the 90's.
@skhooll LOL. Leave the boy alone skhooll. Like most of Ojai he won't understand. He'll just pathetically try to defend his limited view with no idea of who he's actually dealing with. It's sad really but expected.
@AragornIsStrider I'm gonna agree with skhooll on this one. Even if we allow Ojai to include it's surrounding annexes, there's little to be called awesome. Coffee Connection has decent coffee but their pastries are pathetic and Java & Joe has the most consistently bitter coffee in the valley. The end began with the demise of Bill Bakers and was finalized with the end of Ojai Video.
Actually, The Hub was pretty good (for me at least...) until 2007, when they closed and then redesigned it. It's garbage now. I much prefer Movino's and The Jester.
I guess I can't bring you guys around to see that Ojai is still awesome, as I've been democratically outvoted.
The question remains...are my standards too low, or are yours too high? I guess we have ourselves a "glass half empty/full" situation, and I'd much rather be on the side of positivity.
You're still implying that yours is the "right" view in some way. Don't you think that's a little presumptious? Maybe you're in a state of ignorant bliss as well? And if so...how would you *really* know?
These kinds of things can bring out some interesting philosophical questions.
Mine Is the right view. It is in alignment with who I am and how I've come into being. You'll really "know" when you actually get there. Thinking you're there because your mind heard it somewhere is folly.
You didn't like the "awesome" ones I gave. I think Bart's is awesome...Jim 'n' Rob's...Ruben's...Serendipity Toys. Coffee Roasting is pretty good, but I don't care for the staff.
Why don't you list something...anything...good about Ojai. Because with how you talk about it, I'm not exactly sure why you live here.
Surely you can't just keep refuting my words with more self-righteous negativity?
I've lived in Ojai for so long that I can name the three guys who actually blew up the original pergola...and they were not hippies, they were rednecks. I just want to add that today's Ojai suffers from too much smog, too many horses's asses moving in from Hollywood, and TOO DAMNED MANY REPUBLICANS.
Yup, I agree with skhooll. Ojai's lost its charm. All I hear now is "struggle". I'm sure the redneck crew is blaming it all on Obama but really I think the city council and the developers are to blame. How long has the skate park been "promised"? The speculator syndrome over the last ten to fifteen years didn't help either. Oh well, change happens!
LOL! Ojai's a total shit-hole compared to just ten years ago. A special thanks to the RICH for ruining what some of us used to call home. Where the fuk are the jobs that pay the fukin rents up here???????????? "Shangri-L.A." is as much of a joke now as the new owner of Barts Books is.
Totally agree with you skhooll. It's a real shame what has happened to Ojai. Bonnie Lu's sux now and I used to love Barts. Now I won't step foot in the place. L.A. transplants can go rot in hell as far as I'm concerned.
Hey, someone's actually not happy with shangi-L.A.???? LOL. I agree with you guys. Ojai's lost "it". Corporate sandwich place in town now? Businesses dropping like flys? WTF? Definitely two thumbs down to L.A. transplants and those that suk up to them.
I first moved to Ojai when I was 9 years old (in '89.) Lived here until I was 18. The town was boring and the people got under my skin. Then I moved away, lived around California and Tennessee, and then came back...and fell in love with Ojai as an adult for all the reasons I disliked it as a kid. I love it's quietness and solitude. I love meeting and talking to so many diverse types of people over coffee or beers downtown. The stars are clear. Easy access to nature and camping. Absolute heaven.

Ive lived in Ojai all my life. Its a great town to grow up in. But as you get older, (as in teen years) theres nothing do to!!! Except maybe hangout down town for an hour until you get bored haha. But still, Ojais a lovely town it just gets boring for me somtimes.
It was nice in the 1970's when I grew up there. Completely different town now. I'll never forget attending Monica Ros school. Ojai went into the crapper when Hollywood moved north and took over the Arts Center.
Oh right, Rosario Tibbitts is a great friend. Too bad she slept with my and three of my friends' husbands. She supposedly has a husband, but the way that woman gets around I doubt it. BEWARE ladies...the Latin Ho is always ready and waiting!!
Oh my god I am so embarrassed!!! I even changed my screen name because after I wrote this about this poor Rosario Tibbitts I realized it was Rosario TIMMONS!!! Wrong person!! Woops!! Sorry! Anyway she is a big slut and a ho but she is wayyyyy younger than you people who hang out here so SORRY!!!!
i dont even wanna watch this video...it makes me sad that im stuck in the San Fernando Valley. :( sure hope i can afford a house in upper ojai when i graduate! maybe saddle mountain.
Don't feel too bad. I grew up in Ojai, and now am in St. Louis seeing a teacher can't survive anywhere nearby and have any kind of life for their kids. I think about Ojai every day
I live in Argentina now, but I still miss my Ojai days! LOVE IT!

Want my PayPal info? :)

Coffee Connection isn't in Ojai. Next?

Oh, come on. You're going to be that technical? LOL. Ojai is the whole valley, dude.
I don't post my mailing address as "Meiners Oaks".
But since you *are* being technical...Java & Joe.

You should be in Ojai on the 4th of July!
When they turn the lights out on the city for the fireworks; it is the coolest.
