  • One of Wanda Jackson's hits is You're the only world I know, but why can't I find ?

    Can anyone help me, please??

    Thanks, gimick49

  • This is cool. Great to hear the original. Thank you so much for putting this up.

  • I think that Dusty Springfield did this much better.

  • Don't remember if I had the 78 or 45 but can't forget this song. What a great time for music. I just sand One Night, which was done by Wanda and Elvis too. Please give it a listen. Dan

  • I like the second verse, the fiddle and steel guitar, and Wanda is a good singer. But Linda Rondstadt has a better voice and her versions, along with a lot of other versions, are much faster tempo, which is better for this song in my opinion.

  • A movie of of Wanda's song on a 78 RPM portable player! It's a time machine taking us to the past. Its a wonderful song, and I agree Wanda Jackson did it best.

  • Thank you for posting this! Wanda Rocks!!!

  • The original and still the best!! Also the only version with a second verse!! Very important!!

  • I love the way the poster did this on an OLD tinny and flat sounding record player.

I'm more than old enough to remember the sound.

folks owned a bar in a small farm town 50/60's.

    The jukebox was my entertainment.!

  • Best version, if you ask me!

  • first to record this song and still the BEST

  • NEAR THE REAL THING

  • Very good!

  • i just think wanda is too kool.i am so into this song and she does it so well.there's alot to early country and she does it so well.

  • Wow. Thank you for sharing this. I was a tiny little thing back then.

  • backwater, what!?

  • i had no idea wanda jackson ever sang this! nice.

  • She was the FIRST ever to record it.

  • that looks like my first record player i received on my 11th birthday,in 1956.my first record was all shook up by elvis.record player was $10. 45s were $.98 i would shut until i got a record player.i was only able to buy 1 record a week.i almost wore then out playing them for hours at a time.

  • Dear wilmaohman, it's very nice to hear your words of that era, you was there, even if pretty young, maaaaan if i've had that opportunity to been there at that time, i've been workin 20 hr day to earn pay to get these original records of $0.98 instead of $200 - $2500 nowadays...

Thanks for visiting and supporting my site

  • lynchburg; it's hard to find a player for the vinyls outside of a museum.the same for the 8 track players.the cassettes are almost obselete.but at least we can still find some of the songs on youtube and many of them have been recorded on cd's.

  • i have several 33's and 45's that have been packed up in a box for a number of yrs.i threw away all the 8 tracks because my 8 track broke and it was useless to try and replace it.

  • We're both from the same generation. I still love playing my vinyls. You can find new turntables at Target among other places. I bought a 1950's Magnavox console radio-record player combo at the local Salvation Army for...hold on...$35!!!!!!!!!! WOW. It was in PERFECT condition. Belonged to an elderly lady that had passed and her family donated it to SA. I feel blessed to own it! Plays the 78's and 33's also.

  • some of the vinyl's are worth a fortune. thanks to youtube we can listen to some great music. i have fallen in love with irish music.some of the singers have voices like you've never heard b4.probably the only way you'll find the vinyls is the thrift shops.

sometimes people will find items that are worth a fortune.i should be so lucky.

  • $0.98 was a lot of money at that time.i remember my first job as a carhop.i was doing great if i received $5.00 in tips.$1.00 was a big tip.someone had to really like you to leave you $1.00 tip.

  • Skeeter Davis version seems BETTER !

  • Skeeter is great in her own right, and she was a great innovator in the recording studio harmonizing with herself(a technique stolen by that piece of excrement Phil Spector). However Skeeter's version lacks the very important second verse!!

  • @skidrowtours. Excellent original song. When people talk about excrement, they are talking about thmselves.

  • What really stands out about this (at least to my ears) is the fact that it only has three chords. The Springfields throw in a whole bunch of other chords on the line "And I Dare Not Drown My Sorrow In The Warm Glow Of Your Wine."

  • Thank you for protecting this great performance by putting it on youtube. How many copies of that record are left? Few!

  • Wanda sang at our church in Longview,Texas in the mid-eighties. She was fabulous singing songs to lift up your spirits.

  • love it

  • I miss vinyl!!! I love the size of the album cover.

  • Wow! This is a real GEM! I recall the Springfields version from the 60's, which was great in it's own right, but Wanda's clean, pure and simple delivery is a Masterpiece!

Thanks to LynchburgSourMash for posting something magical that I did not know existed! Good Luck to all from the Captain.

  • Great posting! If you ever decide to sell that old turntable, I'm interested! I've got a 21 year old son who LOVES vinyl ... hard to find even at yard sales!

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • I love Capitol 78s

  • Thank you. Sounds so much better on a good 78!!!
