When I started playing,I learned to play without strings. Much easier on the fingers. However after 22 yearsof playing, I have recently given up the guitar to play the forks. Very rewarding.
It's a CC057, and it's lasted me many years with absolutely no issues at all. Great for gigging, great for anything. I haven't tried any newer Ovations, but I love this one.
Just letting you know, I'm a beginner here and I went and picked up some of those beginner mercury strings you were talking about. Problem is when I use the fork technique (as you went through in Part I) I've noticed the guitar doesn't tune properly. Any ideas what might be going wrong here?
Nothing, they're legitimate chords, but just because they're chords doesn't mean they should be played. What should be played on the guitar is what is good to the ear. Minor chords are bad to the ear. Things that are bad to the ear should be avoided. Go ahead and make all the noise music you want with minor chords to entertain you and your hipster fringe deadbeat friends, but me and the rest of the world don't want to hear it.
I don't want to play minor chords by accident. Is there a way to avoid minor chords - like some kind of restraining order that will keep me away from them?
This is a noble thought. I have been planning a gulch for some time of like-minded individuals who also do not want the minor chord in their lives. When I have the funds, I will pursue this to the fullest extent, and you may join it.
Theres a man with a beard who lives in the subway and I think he sometimes plays minor chords. Should I tell him about major chords, or should I keep your lessons to myself?
The man you speak of got where he is as a result of playing only minor chords. Informing him of such a revelation will only send him in a blind, smelly rage that could end yours and many other lives. Stay safe and take the bus instead.

great observation. the traditional 4-string bass is such because the guy who invented it was a midget and couldn't wrap his hand around it if it had 6 strings, so he decided since it was his invention, he might as well cater to himself.
Hey, just wanted to let you know that your videos have helped me start playing guitar. It was always difficult to do cause my fingers are big and not fat but definitely clumsy. The paper trick was neat, do you have any tips on playing chords easier? Like any shortcuts? Keep rockin!
It has recently come to my attention the amount of trouble my tubesters are having with holding chords. I will do my best to help you and everyone else with this in Guitar Basics III with Cody Clarke. Stay tuned.
Hey Cody, would the tissue +tape help prevent the tyrannosaurus hand that i get when im playing chords? or would an athletic supporter help more? maybe a head band or some sweet head phones, ive seen the head phones a couple times in those super cool hard rock bands... they really know what they're doing. any who, id appreciate any pointers on crampage... my girlfriend has some Midol... maybe i will give that a shot.
It will help when it comes to pressure on your fingertips, but the finger shapes are still gonna be difficult. In my next video I'll be sure to help you out with chord shapes and preventing the cramping you speak of.

Hey Cody, my man.
Just letting you know, I'm a beginner here and I went and picked up some of those beginner mercury strings you were talking about. Problem is when I use the fork technique (as you went through in Part I) I've noticed the guitar doesn't tune properly. Any ideas what might be going wrong here?
Thanks man, keep up the great work!

Troubleshooting:
1) Are you using a plastic fork? Plastic forks can only tune banjos.
2) Are you using a steak fork? Forks with two or three prongs should only be used for microtonal tuning. (i.e. halfway between E and F)
3) Is your fork still covered in food? This might be interfering with the frequency.
Hope that helps!
Peace love and harmony for the rest of your natural days,
Cody Clarke

Thanks for the help.
Just need to know if it matters if the fork is slightly rusted or not? (all of mine seem to be). What about tarnish on a silver one?
Keep on strumming, Cody.
sl4ke 2 years ago
Rust and tarnish will greatly affect tone. Perhaps you should hit eBay for some new forks.
There are some B's on there for pretty cheap, only $4,999.

In your beat factory, you have guitars of many colors. Could you explain how the color limits the capabilities of any particular guitar?

It doesn't.

Hey I['ve often noticed that a guitar has more strings than a bass guitar is this because of that fish do not have fingers?
