The major failing of religionists is all the idiotic undeserved attention they give to just ONE particular text (bible, talmud, koran) as opposed to any of the MILLIONS of other books in the library about mythologies mixed with historical real events.

Tf00t's science and debunking is undoubtedly impeccable, but his videos about Islam / Dawah are not to the level. "Why do people laugh at creationists" is also insulting and generalizing but it has less politics, less drama and more sheer pwnage. Just saying.
You wouldn't DARE to speak on legislation? I hope you would. I think you have. I think you recently discussed the legal equality issues around Muslim only schools in Toronto ("Hijacking a School" Sep 19, 2011). At 1:34, you offer your opinion of a legal document from the Canadian Parliament.
You decreed that this school might be in violation of the laws of Canada. Are you a lawyer?
Please understand, I just want to hold up a mirror. I like your videos. Great arguments.
I had some very good comments on my video "The Virtue of Doubt" that challenged my take on Abraham and Isaac, as well as a harebrained comment about Job's trials that I still regret. I'm prepared to admit that I'm not much of a Bible scholar, absent a dozen or so years of Bible study. I don't think that bars me from open discussion on the topic, or curtails my right to offer my own amateur opinion.
If you want to return the favor, you can do a video on molecular biology. No complaints here!
Sometimes people are wrong. Even really smart people. Factually, unavoidably wrong. The key is not to take it personally, either as the paragon of truth or the demon of shame.
I like to hear people with flawed ideas express them clearly, so long as they aren't doing harm to themselves or others. TF is no Bible scholar, but he is entertaining. Jon Stewart isn't a trained journalist, but his take on journalism is fun to watch.
Hey, criticize him, go ahead. He's a big boy, and a published author, so he knows about criticism from peers. I don't see any reason he shouldn't offer his (amateur) opinions or thoughts. I note that you are not an expert on death penalty legislation, but still feel qualified to assess the arguments... perhaps there's room for a diversity of backgrounds and experiences?
My first thought reading your post was PZ's "Courtier's Reply"... are you familiar with it?
@C0nc0rdance religion and studies of it are a bit more complex topics than death penalty legislation. This is also one of reasons why religion still has such a tight grasp on people's minds. They are quite used to TF's rhetorics - and making mistakes doesn't help, especially if someone is already so popular. With that comes responsibility. How are we supposed to advocate reason, knowledge, researcher accuracy when we choose to be so selective about it, even if opinion is that of an amateur?
@ItsTheSuperFly Because the bible can be interpreted by anyone. Even scientists can't comment on every other field. Technically his work is in biology (biophysics) and a large part of biologists are out of depth when addressing molecular dynamics simulations. You only have the one book.
I don't know, I don't think incredulity is a hallmark of Dawah's base. See for example "Evidence For God: Not Necessary". (Not making that up, that's really one of his latest videos.)
just get a girlfriend and stop being such an angsty obnoxious twit already. It should serve to get rid of some of that tension and frustration you seem to be projecting onto the rest of us.
- but you don't have to be highly intelligent, to see that izlam is a stupid, backward CULT, - which was invented by a brutal, bloodthirsty, mass-murdering, CHILD - RAPIST, called mooooooooo-HAM-mad.
@zakirnaikmuzzyPIG: Islam is more like a "me, too" version of Christianity adopted by someone who disliked the Jews (there had been resentment against them since time immemorial) and thought the Christians take on religion was more his cup of hemlock. What we have today is all the immams and crazy interpretations that have led to Sharia law, which is yet another "interpretation" of Islam and not actually Islam itself. What gets called "Islam" to day I call the Cliff Notes as read by an idiot.
@ReignbowSmite Yeah.... "ThunderF00t's research" real cryptic. How could you have possibly known?
And the "jerk off" comment was your opinion, not trolling? Really? Meaning what? That he took a couple of minutes to say something nice about a friend on Youtube? Oh the horrors! I see why your so upset.
And I am sure you have the same opinion of every shoutout video or any video praising another Youtuber. Right? Am sure you do.
@fortyone0 She is upset cause she is a 30 year old, ingoramious illiterate that cant digest that some people are simply smarter than her..
She is of the kind of lunatic lefties that wear hijab to show their solidarity supposedly to women's right in France, while millions of women are coerced to the clothing dungeon across the Muslim world...
In short an apologizer of Islamic fascism under the pretense of "anti-bigotry"..
I've always have had, and still have, a great respect for Thunderf00t as a scientist, and believe him on his word when it comes to scientific subjects in his field.
Despite that respect, I don't agree with some of his opinions on religion and in particular, on Islam.
People who dismiss his scientific knowledge because they criticize his take on faith are at least as short-sighted as the man they accuse of shortsightedness. Personal opinions and scientific credentials are separate things.
@Nightmare060, You said "... and hardly on the same level as any terrorist". I never compared him to a terrorist, I didn't even mention the word, you donkey!
There is no one who I agree with 100% of the time; I will however say that I agree with Thunderf00t the most. For most of the things people don't like him for doing, I have done something equally "wrong" for that person's reasoning.
Even I didn't realize how productive of a scientist he was.
I figured he was some sort of chemist long ago. I originally though a biochemist, but I was pretty close.
Interesting work he does too. This still being something where I know enough to get a basic idea of what he does for a living. (unlike what some physicists do. (And mathematicians I understand even less what they do.)
But I definitely respect scientific work! It's amongst the highest pursuits in life I think.
Religious people cant possibly understand what Phil does. They don't care about a life spent focused on science. They don't care about anything outside of their Bible. Religious people can never understand the effort required to do what Phil does and will do more of in the future. Phil, as a fellow ape on earth, I thank you and people like you for making my life as easy to live as getting up in the morning. Thank you Phil for doing the right thing. Thank you Phil for investigating our world. :)
I appreciate his work on science, but Thunderf00t is an anti-Muslim bigot and his contributions in science does not excuse his bigotry.
He believes in demonizing Muslims as "terrorists", "primitives", and "savages" - in other words, he believes in prejudice.
That's why so many atheists have unsubscribed from his channel and bigots like Pat Condell. You can oppose the beliefs of Islam without demonizing the PEOPLE, which is what they do. And it's flat out disgusting.
@daedamot hmmm much demonizing of Thunderf00t in your little rant. Just curious genius, would you care to make a list of all the 'atheists' unsubscribing and why do you feel the need to label people anyway? Much hypocrisy indeed given your video list. You can't take any moral high ground.
@daedamot I'll take Tf00t over Dawaha and thousands of so called moderate Muslims any day.
"You can oppose the beliefs of Islam without demonizing the PEOPLE" when you can seperate people from belief then you will have solved the problem of all religions,... until that time, it is people that are the problem.
I love how no one had a problem with Tf00t and others criticizing and making fun of fundamentalist Christians but as soon as the same eye is turned toward Islam, people start crying "bigotry" and "racism". Get a grip.
@daedamot-He believes in demonizing Muslims as "terrorists", "primitives", and "savages" - in other words, he believes in prejudice.
ALL Muslims, and Christians share a tacit responsibility for the actions of the extremists by giving credibility to texts written by primitives, and claiming they were "inspired" by the creator of the universe. Gay marriage, or creationism being taught in schools would be non-issue if 85% of Americans didn't call themselves Christians.
Muslim extremist wouldn't believe they will get immediate entry into paradise for dying in a "just cause", if 2.2 billion Muslims didn't give their holy texts credibility. In that sense all believers share the responsibility for propagating , and should be held accountable. No one is suggesting they share equal responsibility, but it's ridiculous to say that people who choose to self identify with groups share none of the responsibility for things justified by that groups dogma.
My mother left the catholic church, and stopped calling herself a Christians because, as a pro-choice, pro gay marriage advocate, she was tacitly giving credibility to positions she opposed.
His degrees doesn't give him the right to be an ass. And it is funny how you guys protray yourselves as helping the world when really what you are doing is just laughing at weak targets. The donations you ask for probaby ends up in your own pockets or ultimately the Vatican. Who do you think owns the charities? The red cross is proud to say 90% of the money reaches the people in need. How about the other 10%? Millions of dollars to the church.
It is quite interesting to know about TF´s research and his CV. Anyone could tell that he is a highly qualified professional.
However, much of the criticism against TF (and maybe one of the motivation for this video) was based on Dawha Films attempt to humiliate him by saying he was e-begging and unemployed.
Well, I don´t care about one´s success or financial status. TF has great arguments (although I don´t agree with many of them).
In short, I think ad hominem attacks are detrimental to all.
@EverEvolvingApe I think a fair amount of the criticism was due to one of Thunderf00t's videos regarding the threat of Islam that was picked up and (I think intentionally) misunderstood by certain bend-over-backwards-to-avoid-appearing-bigoted atheists, most particularly Coughlan and a few Coughlan-wannabes or cronies.
TF's point was clear in that video if you took the context. They didn't, made video responses bashing him, and those responses instead were used by more to attack him unfairly.
I don't think anyone ever contested that TF doesn't have scientific knowledge or his research is worthless.People have a problem with his personal philosophies as well as his methods of expressing and employing those philosphies.People that he directly opposes will of course discredit him at every turn and why shouldn't they? Are we really that surprised that if someone feels threatened they would try to eliminate that threat by any means necessary. This also applies to other extremists besides TF
Loved this video. If it wasn't for Thunderf00t I wouldn't even look at YT except out of boredom. I then found the science and atheist videos and have been watching videos ever since.
you must really have cognitive deficiencies. he was lazy, sloppy, irrational and subsequently dragged down the whole conversation to a level unworthy of intellectual discourse. he has done great disservice to many atheists on youtube by allowing himself to be seen as a simpleton guided by emotion rather than rationality. coughlan and other critics were correct and brave to criticize him, knowing full well the thunderf00t drones would be on their case for it.
@AmetReloads I take it this isn't the right time to point out it isn't the religion itself doing that? I think that, as with christianity, things would be much worse if the holy book was followed to the letter. Since it is not, they pick and choose their passages as much as any other abrahamic follower, and therefore it's mostly personal choise causing what hell there is and the religion is an excuse. Where as the nazis you mention created their dogma, rather than bastardised an ancient dogma.
Well, that was completely over my head. But I couldn't help noticing, did you photoshop Adam's genitals from the Sistine Chapel mural? What has this world come to when people are so offended by art?
@billybush111 Since peopl who disagree get videos removed by flagging them for inappropriate content. I think it's dumb, but it's effective, so I can't blame C0nc0rdance for playing it safe.
I have learned allot from Thunderf00t, and I respect him. He has a definite love for science and truth, and sees the big picture, as to what science can bring to us. I hold that view as well. The part that I have a problem with is the fact that he can be pretty mean to religious people, and people he doesn't agree with. I see where he is coming from, but even if you think someone is crazy (sometimes justifiably so), it is important to try to be nice and understanding. We are all in this together
Well, ok, I get it from the superstitionists, since he tears their positions down gleefully.
What is it some rationalists have against him? Are they accomodationists, thinking we shouldn't insult others' beliefs, no matter how stupid or dangerous? Or are they jealous of his success?
I've not seen him do anything I found out of line. Perhaps I missed something, idk.
@thebigJ1er The hate comes from his implied belief that just because he has expertise in physics he also has infallible knowledge and expertise in everything else he might want to talk about, like religion (even though he really doesn't know as much about religion as he might like to think he does). He also has a bit of an addiction to power, and the way he uses his influence on YouTube is frightening at times, to say the least, and a prime example of why a technocracy probably wouldn't work.
@thebigJ1er So far as i can tell the hate comes from the fact that too many people want Dr Mason to be Saint Phil, always correct on everything. The effect is that TF's critics generally criticise him for the exact same things they do worse because they expect him to not have those flaws while they are just ordinary schlubs, thus minor transgressions amongst them are seen as fatal when TF commits them.
I honestly had a bit of a hard time taking him seriously as a scientist based on his appearance and demeanor, but now my eyes have been opened. Keep up the good work, TF.
I love Thunderf00t's science videos but I sometimes disagree with his views on other subjects. The thing is, it's the disagreement that I love more than anything.
When I think "You're wrong, Thunderf00t" it makes me think about WHY I think he's wrong, this in turn leads me to consider my own views.
@TheAngryBum I agree. Men of science tend to be pleased with not only disagreement but even when they are wrong. Because that means knowledge has been gained. Makes me wonder what the world would be like if places like America were run by physicists and biologists, etc... instead of Lawyers and businessmen. The people running it now seem to have a thirst for power. I don't think we would have that problem with scientists because instead of power...they have a thirst for knowledge.
I find myself saying "I respectively disagree with you Thunderf00t."
And then continue on the same train as you do. Cheers.
p.s I'm so glad that their is people who disagree, which is why I dig c0nc0rdance so much (aside from his thorough, thoughtful, concise and sincere videos.)
In the past, I've seen c0nc0rdance engage with many people who disagree with him. But only if they do so in a respectful way, and he always replies in kind.
@TheAngryBum I agree. Problem is I see Tf00t going to great lengths to demonize his main critics, mainly Coughlan616/000. He rarely criticises Islam and usually just throws insults or misinformation it's self. If he read the Koran and debunked creationist claims while calling dishonest pricks idiots, I would have no problem. But when you accuse any critic as having "Histrionic Personality Disorder", that's crossing the line.
"Thunderf00t would do better to focus on his day job. He has nothing of value to contribute on other topics" says quickjoesmith
TF has as much right to express his ideas as anyone else. He is not forcing anyone to watch his channels. If you think his ideas are wrong, then give a valid counterpoint. He does not censor comments, even those critical of him(& too many comments are petty insults). He gives you freedom of expression, and he deserves no less. He's earned respect. He's a good guy
@Synthmilk You seriously don't know about how Tf00t stood idley by and watched as his subs went to the FBI on DawahFilms, even endorsing it, when Ali did nothing wrong (unless you're some tf00t fan boy in which you don't care at this point for facts and to which I go back to my facepalm, seeing as you're now not worth anything more than a creationist).
@gleehmee Aw, the retard didn't understand a common phrase that wasn't directly aimed at him, but rather but rather people like him : )
Your question is really silly.
Morons like you still need to prove he doc dropped. And I'm not calling /you/ a moron, I'm saying people who are on whatever side/position/etc. /like/ you are.
very intersting...and i still like thunderfoot's videos in general, very much.the hoopla about his vids discussing religion don't phase me.i have posted comments on vids i regret later,as i spoke before finding out facts or misunderstood...it happens.tfoot was one of the 1st science vid producers i subbed to, and love his work.
Given how hard I worked to get to Research Associate II, you can see why I was pissed when DawahFilms referred to Research Associates as "glorified lab techs."
But then I remember that DawahFilms is an idiot and most people realize that already.
dawah hasn't commented on this video because it contains a lot of terms that he would not understand - you know, science, respect, and intelligence. It's time he threw away his pages-stuck-together quran and opened some new books and his mind to the reality that everyone else experiences instead of his made up reality.
@muzvh1 Dawah doesn't contest science last I checked. He may be an apologist for Islam, but he is far from a disrespectful idiot. He's a nice guy to those that are nice to him (although I'm not suggesting he is immune to criticism) and hardly on the same level of any terrorist. Maybe you should support channels that actually criticise islam instead of just insults.
@Nightmare060 Dahwah and Tf00t both misunderstood each other. If either had taken the time to think before making a video, the whole drama would not have happened.
The idea that Tf00t was proposing that the western powers should initiate an attack on countries where Islam is the prevalent religion was ludicrous. Dahwah was dead wrong to interpret Tf00t's remarks in that manner. But Tf00t's reply to that was also dead wrong. Neither side had a clue what the other side was saying.
Transcribed "He communicates science well"
I'm sure he a nice chap
But he make's mistakes on youtube and he doesn't correct them, he communicates misinformation

I like to hear people with flawed ideas express them clearly, so long as they aren't doing harm to themselves or others. TF is no Bible scholar, but he is entertaining. Jon Stewart isn't a trained journalist, but his take on journalism is fun to watch.

@ItsTheSuperFly
C0nc0rdance 3 months ago
@C0nc0rdance religion and studies of it are a bit more complex topics than death penalty legislation. This is also one of reasons why religion still has such a tight grasp on people's minds. They are quite used to TF's rhetorics - and making mistakes doesn't help, especially if someone is already so popular. With that comes responsibility. How are we supposed to advocate reason, knowledge, researcher accuracy when we choose to be so selective about it, even if opinion is that of an amateur?

@zakirnaikmuzzyPIG: Islam is more like a "me, too" version of Christianity adopted by someone who disliked the Jews (there had been resentment against them since time immemorial) and thought the Christians take on religion was more his cup of hemlock. What we have today is all the immams and crazy interpretations that have led to Sharia law, which is yet another "interpretation" of Islam and not actually Islam itself. What gets called "Islam" to day I call the Cliff Notes as read by an idiot.

And it's flat out disgusting.
daedamot 3 months ago
@daedamot hmmm much demonizing of Thunderf00t in your little rant. Just curious genius, would you care to make a list of all the 'atheists' unsubscribing and why do you feel the need to label people anyway? Much hypocrisy indeed given your video list. You can't take any moral high ground.

TritoneMcgee 3 months ago 3
@daedamot-He believes in demonizing Muslims as "terrorists", "primitives", and "savages" - in other words, he believes in prejudice.
ALL Muslims, and Christians share a tacit responsibility for the actions of the extremists by giving credibility to texts written by primitives, and claiming they were "inspired" by the creator of the universe. Gay marriage, or creationism being taught in schools would be non-issue if 85% of Americans didn't call themselves Christians.

TheNakedAtheist 3 months ago

Muslim extremist wouldn't believe they will get immediate entry into paradise for dying in a "just cause", if 2.2 billion Muslims didn't give their holy texts credibility. In that sense all believers share the responsibility for propagating , and should be held accountable. No one is suggesting they share equal responsibility, but it's ridiculous to say that people who choose to self identify with groups share none of the responsibility for things justified by that groups dogma.

EverEvolvingApe 3 months ago 28
@EverEvolvingApe I think a fair amount of the criticism was due to one of Thunderf00t's videos regarding the threat of Islam that was picked up and (I think intentionally) misunderstood by certain bend-over-backwards-to-avoid-appearing-bigoted atheists, most particularly Coughlan and a few Coughlan-wannabes or cronies.
TF's point was clear in that video if you took the context. They didn't, made video responses bashing him, and those responses instead were used by more to attack him unfairly.

you must really have cognitive deficiencies. he was lazy, sloppy, irrational and subsequently dragged down the whole conversation to a level unworthy of intellectual discourse. he has done great disservice to many atheists on youtube by allowing himself to be seen as a simpleton guided by emotion rather than rationality. coughlan and other critics were correct and brave to criticize him, knowing full well the thunderf00t drones would be on their case for it.

We are all in this together
dannukesem 4 months ago
I don't get the hate for Tfoot.
Perhaps I missed something, idk.
thebigJ1er 4 months ago 2
@thebigJ1er The hate comes from his implied belief that just because he has expertise in physics he also has infallible knowledge and expertise in everything else he might want to talk about, like religion (even though he really doesn't know as much about religion as he might like to think he does). He also has a bit of an addiction to power, and the way he uses his influence on YouTube is frightening at times, to say the least, and a prime example of why a technocracy probably wouldn't work.
stefhenhaires 4 months ago
@thebigJ1er So far as i can tell the hate comes from the fact that too many people want Dr Mason to be Saint Phil, always correct on everything. The effect is that TF's critics generally criticise him for the exact same things they do worse because they expect him to not have those flaws while they are just ordinary schlubs, thus minor transgressions amongst them are seen as fatal when TF commits them.

When I think "You're wrong, Thunderf00t" it makes me think about WHY I think he's wrong, this in turn leads me to consider my own views.
I like disagreement, it furthers humanity.
TheAngryBum 4 months ago 37
@TheAngryBum I agree. Men of science tend to be pleased with not only disagreement but even when they are wrong. Because that means knowledge has been gained. Makes me wonder what the world would be like if places like America were run by physicists and biologists, etc... instead of Lawyers and businessmen. The people running it now seem to have a thirst for power. I don't think we would have that problem with scientists because instead of power...they have a thirst for knowledge.

@TheAngryBum I agree. Problem is I see Tf00t going to great lengths to demonize his main critics, mainly Coughlan616/000.
