anyone know how these would do on the street? i live in the north east so we get snow for about 5 months of the year and it makes it hard to peddle on the half snowed up streets, but i would think that front foot would get ground into bits with out a lot of snow on the ground, anyone ever tried it?
Well I picked up the rear wheel assembly on Thursday and I learned a few things. I think it's a good thing I didn't buy the front ski because I have a mountain bike that uses the old U-bar clamp brakes where the shoes grab the rim. If you want to use the ski, you have to have a disc brake on the rear wheel assembly. Therefore you need a frame with a seat stay and a chain stay that can accomodate a rear disc brake. That means you need a bike that costs at least 500$.
I can imagine after one season you can kiss your gears, breaks, etc. goodby.

I wouldn't recommend it. On hard packed snow it is really hard to steer and keep balance. I prefer studded tires for the streets.

woha. i NEED this
Battlechoir5 1 year ago
Neat idea. It looks like it would get much better traction then a normal bike tire, a lot better for all types of terrian too not just snow.

Fuck this, it can't go up hill. What's the point? Easier to use a damn pair of skies.

Because of course, skis work SO well at going uphill. Wait a sec...

muy interesante! ¿Como funciona este invento cuesta arriba? ¿how makes to climb? (i don't speak english :S)
erdelzulo 2 years ago
Nah, es lo mismo que tener un par de esquies, la cosa no puede ir cuesta arriba, lo que lo hace completamente inutil.

Okay - thats cool - now how about putting a 2 or 4 stroke bicycle engine kit on it for some real power!
kitimatkrew 3 years ago
they need to make the ktrak cheaper. Heck its more expensive than my bike
Mawbellog 3 years ago
It's $400! Mawbellog you have to quite buying Wallmart bikes. A decent rear rim for a med-quality mountain bike is $200+
This is not a device for couch potato riders. Anything engineered costs money

I made something just like this 5 years ago for a school project and am still working on making it better.
