  • how did the beer end up tasting did you make a video for the side by side tasting...i was wondering if you could make ag in a pot or needed a mashtun

  • @plumeja The beer was great. No, i never did make the side by side. You can do it in a pot if its big enough.

  • Fo. I know this is really late, but I was interested in doing this recipe. Just wondering how it came out?

  • Was that an entire .25 gallon of starter wort?

  • Embarrassed - I didn't even know this video was up. I'm not getting very good notifications from YouTube. Great vid Fo!

  • @CraigTube No problem Craig. This batch has been bottled and its ready to drink. We should meet up soon.

  • @weirdbeer Yes, we should. I have my IPA with hop tea ready. You're probably better to phone me, since I'm so behind on my messages.

  • I've AG brewed EdWorts Haus Pale AND his Haus IPA. I like the IPA better, but both are nice.

Next time, look on Homebrewtalk and try out Nierra Sevada. That is my "house" recipe, and I'm always trying different hops out. Dead ringer for SNPA, and always a hit. Nice vid btw.

  • @jturie I looked it up. Sounds really good. It will be a while before I can get to that though. I have a lot of other stuff planned. Thanks for the tip!

  • Nice kitchen brew setup you have going. How is the that kettle doing with holding the heat during mashing? I went with a cooler setup and it only drops about 2 degrees F over 60 minutes.

Personally I'd add way more hops then that. Are you dry hopping in secondary?

  • @StumpyJoeJr Hey Joe. I wrapped a blanket around the kettle and I lost less than 1 degree during mashing. It was my first time using that kettle so time will tell if that result is repeatable. No I'm not going to do any dry hopping because I didn't want to mess with the recipe. This is my first All Grain so I figured "lets just make a tried and true recipe". Also I made the same recipe using extract and I want to do a side by side.

  • Way to go! BIAB...awesome!

  • @immolateus Next time will be TRUE BIAB. No sparge!

  • nice video! i just uploaded a new all grain vid myself. cheers!!!

  • @1979timdog looks good

  • @weirdbeer thanks. i'm excited to see how it turns out!!!

  • I like it!! I am going to brew my APA this weekend. You know, the one that TSA never got around to filming? Oh well. I hope you are enjoying all grain!!!

  • @tomroeder Whats your recipe again?

  • @weirdbeer APA: 9.42 lbs 2-Row Pale Malt .13 lbs Aromatic .26 lbs Cara Pils Dextrine .39 lbs Crystal 20L .39 lbs Wheat .39 lbs Munich .5 oz Centennial 7.5% @45 minutes .5 oz Simcoe 12% @ 30 minutes .5 oz Warrior 13.5% @15 minutes 1.0 oz Cascade 6% @ 5 minutes 1.0 oz Cascade 6% Dry Hopped Recipe figured for 5.65 gal into primary fermenter @ 1.052 for 85% eff. It does have a lot of ingredients, but it is fabulous!

  • @tomroeder Wow. That is a lot of ingredients. It will be a while before I try this out. I'll trade you a bottle of this beer for a bottle of your APA if you want to do an exchange.

  • Wicked video man, thumbs up for HBT and an excellent BIAB. Subbed.

  • Nice brew fo, I'm thinking of moving to all grain, your method looks cheap and simple, makes ag look like the way to go. Btw you forgot your face mask m8 :-).

  • @devilsbanjo lol. Thanks.

  • nice video... can't wait to hear how it turns out...

  • Nice!

Did you get a new camera, or is that upconverted?

  • @PeiHomeBrewer lol. Its upconverted! haha. thanks for rubbing it in. Not actually HD.

  • @PeiHomeBrewer BTW. If this beer is any good you'll be getting one.

  • Nice video man! I'm looking into getting into ALL GRAIN brewing right away. I notice you just use a pot for your mash tun, I made one out of a coleman cooler, I was wondering why you chose to use a boil pot rather than a cooler? I already spent all the dough and made the cooler mash tun so what's the advantage, if there is one, of using a cooler? Thanks man! Keep the videos coming!

  • @Crypticx666 Your cooler mash tun is better than what I'm doing with my pot. The extra insulation your cooler will provide will let you hold a temperature better than I can. I went this route because its just 1 less thing to clean. I wrapped a blanket around the pot and after 60 minutes of mashing I lost less than 1 degree. I don't think the extra insulation is necessary. My goal is to brew on the stove top. I did that here. Next time I'm going for BIAB & No-Chill. The less work the better IMO.

  • @weirdbeer Ok cool! I just need to get myself a mill and some grains and I should be ready to go! Thanks for your reply!

  • @Crypticx666 Sounds about right. I don't have a mill myself. My homebrew shop mills the grains you buy from them for free.

  • @weirdbeer Maybe I should just see if they sell it milled or not and that would really speed things along! I don't have the money right now to just buy a mill.

  • Looks good Fo, BTW did you play the music for your vids? I am liking it more and more with each video.

  • @threeque The first song in this video is me. The part at the end isn't. I was in a band when I was a kid. haha. We still have 2 songs in MP3 form. Thats one of them.

  • Very nice video!

    Keep on brewing :-)

    Cheers!

  • Nice.... i stove top my 3.5gal biab ag the same way.... GETTERRRRR-DONE !

OK Fo... know get Craig biab ag-ing... : )

    BREW ON !

  • @ZaBuDaB Well thats my plan next. I wanna do brew in a bag on the stove with the No-Chill method. Thats my goal!

  • Looks good Fo cant wait to see the outcome of this one

  • @matt3360 Me either buddy.

  • Looking good, one question, are you leaving the value open for the sparge? I have never seen that before unless you are fly sparging. Any plans for a dry hop? Great vid and cheers to good beer!

  • @MrSweetWort I did leave it open for the sparge. I didn't really think about it. Water goes in, wort comes out! I think everyone can get to nit-picky when it comes to brewing. So the wort was a little cloudy? It cleared up in the primary. No plans for a dry hop. I'm trying to do the extract and all grain versions the same for a good solid comparison. Both were done on the stove top.

  • @weirdbeer no intention to nit-pick, just wondered if you read something that I didn't or if there was a specific reason. Congrats on the proper all-grain brew! I am interested to hear the extract to all-grain comparison. Personally I haven't noticed as much difference as I thought I would between the two, especially if they both have some age on them. Love your vids and keep them coming!

  • Looks like you got it down. If you want to limit the sludge from the kettle to the fermenter whirlpool it for a minute and then let it settle for about 15 minutes before cracking the valve.

That's what the whole song sounds like. Might have to sit down and remix it in its entirety. Always thought it was a catchy tune.

  • @yartp ohhh. I didn't wait the 15 minutes. I started a whirlpool and then cracked the valve. The beer was pretty cloudy during fermentation but its since cleared itself. Its in secondary right now and looks clear as day.

Thanks for the compliment on the tune. Go ahead and play with it.

  • awesome looking video man! Looks really professional! Is that a 5-gallon batch?

I bet this one will come out great. How long do you have to ferment for?

  • @ChadzBeerReviews Yup its 5 gallons. It was a couple of liters short but close enough for me. It was done fermenting in 1 week but looked pretty cloudy. I left it in there for 3 weeks and its clear as day now. I moved it out of the primary bucket into another one to clear it some more. But mostly because I don't know when I'll be able to bottle it so I had to put it somewhere.
