  • Divers was an amazing athelete, however in this race she was not the best. Patoulidou won the race fair and square

  • The funny thing is that the fall of Gail Divers meant the rise of track & field for a country. The athlete that won the gold after Divers fell was Greece's Voula Patoulidou (I'm Greek, I should know). After this win, track & field became popular with young kids (just like basketball after the '87 European Championship) and Greece scored a handful of medals in the next 12-13 years!!!

  • just like lolo

  • Tampere2006 what you mean she fell?? That was a raas drop lol lol lol

  • atleast she didn't come last. :D

  • she would have smashed the world record

  • What's even funnier than this is that she has a brother named Parenthesis.

  • I met her at Sweetwater High....

  • Hell yea Im a thrower for the Sweetwater track team (National City) Im proud to go to the same school as her ! we won Track and Field banner this year!

  • well you come run at public schools in texas...and see if you make it out of district with an 18 flat there...cant even do at private schools here eitha

  • Its pretty awesome (: i know her dad

  • Hm... While I applaud these hurdle-jumping people, they always looked funny to me, because their heads stay at the exact same level while they're still jumping.

  • @LinleyTheBestMan : It's because they are hurdling not jumping. Jumping would be a very inefficient way to get to the end of the race. I'm no hurdler though, I would just jump over them all and probably take 18 seconds lol.

  • @RandomthoughtsMaster I am a highschool hurdeler and i will tell you that an 18 will place you in top 5 in a lot of highschool races. just a tidbit

  • @ZombiesKilledAmerica no it wont...you just suck

  • @jwoods131 Well now i never said that i PERSONALLY ran an 18. im just saying an 18 isnt totally awful, A kid i know got 3rd before with an 18.22. its not a great time by all means but in a low stakes race its not bad either.

  • @jwoods131 Seriously, it will. 18 flat will get you at least top 6 or 7, and under 17 will get you into district finals easily.

  • that was kinda funny but she was gone!

  • she still had one of the finest asses in track.

  • Gail Devers ♥

    this is so sad...

    i think she's the best woman sprinter~

she's on my mind so much ~ !

  • The agony of defeat

  • man that suks.she was one of the greatest ever

  • man, that sucked...

  • Well, I know she won.

  • well she nearly won although she fell..thats awesome

  • Patoulidou won the gold medal.there is no such thing as nearly...

  • Absolutely unbelievable.

  • This is not 100m.

    This is 100m HURDLES...

  • tragic

  • shit happens !! we wone . hurdles are in the race ! you hit one you loose !!

  • man that would have been a great time too, probably 12.30 something

  • Life is brutal. I feel bad for her...

  • Omg thats so sad!! that would have bin heartbreaking.

  • That happened to me during a 300m hurdle race. I was first by a few meters...jumped the gun on the last hurdle and lost the race =\.

  • that pisses ME off. I could not even imagine.

  • Same here, I mean all that hard work comes dowm to trip and tumble towards the finish line and you wake up and come in 5th place. She would have made history in the events that she took place in. It does pisses me off when I see that mishap.

  • lolo jones had the exact same thing happen to her i even think same lane :)

  • I feel bad for her, that's so sad D:

  • pwned

  • poor girl

  • lolo and this lady where obviously some of the best they clearly had the win if they jus went over clean and could be champions but of course arent

  • Massive FAIL...

  • oh no...

  • really? u saw all this detail in this high quality HD youtube video? i cant see sH**

  • it sounds like he read it somewhere...

  • not to be insensitive or anything but that was fuckin hilarious

    shes out front

    its the last hurdle

    ohhhhhhhhhh.......

    gail devers ftl

  • is this fastforwarded?

  • nooaaahh.... The force of gravity pulled her down like a magnet that fast :P

  • bitch Gail Devers has always been clean !

  • That is why sport is one of the toughest arenas to copete in-you train your whole life and one lapse of concentration ruins it! i know how that feels!

  • bwahahahahahahahahhaha

  • Gail Devers is the worlds greatest female hurdler and she has won so many titles but she has never won a gold for it in the olympics.

  • The lack of Olympic gold doesn't mean she's not one of the world's greatest!

  • man.. this irritated me... it was that last hurdle.. Gail Devers is bomb ass.. She went to my high school in National City, California.. SUHI!

  • but she fell. end of story

  • What a load of absulote bad losers the greek beat them all and won olympic gold fair and square.

  • Gail is still, in my opinion, the best sprinter/hurdler that has ever lived. A great champion and a great person. So the idiot who said this was funny can kick rocks! Not many star athletes can reign on a sport like she did and is still continuing to do at the age of 40 (Feb. Millrose games 2007). Look it up! She is my fav of all time!

  • You are right, she is the Greatest sprinter/hurdler in history.. I'm her number 1 fan.. i have all her major races from 1986 til 2004...

  • No offense, but that must suck so bad to be that close and one hurdle away...

  • She's The Most Unluckiest athlete in recent Times.

    Nadeeka

  • This was soo heart breaking to watch

  • That is hilarious!

    Great stuff.

  • Zim83, everyons win is suspecious 2 u, even if every single person in a race fell over before the finish line and a person with one leg hoped pass and won u would be like they used steroids, everyone knows what u are like so if your gonna acuse someone get ya facts right.

  • Donkova was a great athlete. She is the best!

  • I was at the stadium that day,. Memorable, everyone felt sorry for Devers. Paraskevi Patolidou's victory was suspicious, moreso when she came out of nowhere and vanished immediately afterwards.

  • Great Voula Patoulidou No 1!

  • Gail is the absolute Queen of hurdles all the same! I couldn't say I was sad watching this race (I'm Greek and a Greek athlete, Voula Patoulidou, eventually won) but I felt so sorry for her! Hadn't she fall, she would've broken the WR, no doubt about it!

  • No way she could have broken Donkova's drug-aided 12.21. That time is unreachable.

  • 3rd on my list 1.monica seles being stsbbed 2.ottey not getting the gold in 93 word champs. then the fall she always comes back to win after something goes wrong shes a great champ

  • this was very sad i remember it well were did she finish in the end she was so far ahead of the rest atleast she won in 99 i think it was

  • She finished 5th overall-one of the most heartbreaking moments in sport!

  • Killed me when this happened. I was a hurdler and once lost a two-hurdle lead on my last hurdle in the 55M Indoor Hurdles. I went from a clear first place, to fourth. Every time I watch this, I remember that, and could imagine how she felt; given this was so much more important to her, than my race was to me. BTW, she was seriously burning some rubber until she fell!

  • Yea i agree.. I've seen this fall in slow motion, and she was running so fast that she stumbled, fell to her knees, bounced on her knees twice, and still had enough momentum to fling across the finish line... Everytime i watch this, i wish she had made it to the line before the rest. It's crazy how the race was still kinda close even though she fell.

  • This is true. What's even more amazing, if yo think about it, is that you realize how fast everyone is, and how quickly things are moving when she was caught. In races like this, the smallest error can lead to such a huge defeat.

  • Everytime I watch this, I wish she had not gotten so close to the last hurdle. She could have double. She wouldn't have been the first like you said, though. She would have been the second. Fanny Blankers-Koen of the Netherlands doubled in 1948 in the 100m dash and then 80m hurdles. Gail will always be my favorite of all-time.

  • The hurdles used to be run only over 80m, but as far as them being run over 100m, Gail would have been the first technically, but officials would probably still have considered her the second to double.
