  • Very very very very very very good indeed. You moved me, really. The song is beautiful indeed, but the rendition is charming and amazing and moving. Simple yet wonderful. I like it so much. Thank you, for sharing this piece of your beautiful music and of your beautiful heart. Thank you, really.

    A big ciao from Italy.

  • Great song guys. We jammed with you out in Skerries on Paddy's day and the day after a few years back! Come back to Skerries! Great craic altogether

  • What a delightful recording of a moving song. Mark, I've enjoyed many of your harp videos. Great job!

    A fellow harpist...

  • @MarkHarmer damn..... so far away. So far I only sing and play bodhran, tho. Good luck.

  • Just beautiful! What is the wind instrument? Sorta looks like a penny whistle on steroids! LOL!

    Gorgeous sound!

  • @lilypog: it's a low whistle. It *IS* a penny whistle on steroids, actually :-) Same fingering, easier to play than a flute, has a nice sound.

  • Just beautiful!

  • I am interested. I am a lead vocalist. I am based in Rugby. Would you be interested in seeing me?

  • Hi there, have you found a singer for your band yet? or a lead instrumentalist? would you be interested in the instrumentalist being a fiddle player? We are based in Rugby, Warwickshire. I am a lead vocalist my partner plays fiddle. would you be interested in seeing us?

  • I remember an instrumental version that came out in the early 60's. A rather peppy, faster beat. But I really liked it and wish that I could locate that tune. Cannot find it anywhere.

  • While Judy Collins is my favorite version. This one is very nicely done.

  • slainte,cavan, i love my love!!!!!!

  • jas mc nally version turned me on to this tune

he has this tune on spiritual high album

    take ikt fay therr

  • Pleasant enough and well executed. For me has nowhere the depth of emotion that Christy Moore puts across - but that's personal opinion for you : )

  • Slainte!

Fantastic version of this classic song.

Salmon's Leap, Gaelic Storm, Cara Dillon and this version are my equal favourites of one of the most beautiful and under-rated love songs of all time.

  • This has got to be the sappiest thing I've ever absolutely loved.

  • i love this song it's really beautifull all the respect in the world to slainte

  • Great, man!

  • I also love Lynn's voice and everybody else's singing and musicianship!

    xoxoxo

  • lovely song - with kind regards from Bulgaria! :)

  • Hi Mark, Are Slainte still playing? I enjoy the music so much. I think you guys do the best version of this song to date.

    Slan

  • Usually it takes few listening before I love the music but on this one I loved it immediately. Beautfil music and vocal. I have downloaded the clip and stored it in my favorite youtube folder.

  • I am exactly the same as you. loved it, the first time I heard it.

  • Such a good group. Come back to London.

  • And black is the color of my true love's hair

Her lips are like some roses fair

She has the sweetest smile the gentlest hands

And I love the ground whereon she stands

I love the ground whereon she stands

I love the ground whereon she stands

    There ya go Princeykun!! ^^

read from the last message up because i had to paste them in blocks.

  • And black is the color of my true love's hair

Her lips are like some roses fair

She has the sweetest smile the gentlest hands

And I love the ground whereon she stands

I go to the Clyde and mourn and weep

But satisfied I never shall be

I'll write her a letter with a few short lines

and suffer death a thousand times

  • Black is the color of my true love's hair

Her lips are like some roses fair

She has the sweetest smile the gentlest hands

And I love the ground whereon she stands

I love my love, and well she knows

I love the ground whereon she goes

I wish the day soon would come

When she and I will be as one

  • I loved this song with just the music, but with the vocals, it's even more beautiful. Is there any chance that I could get the lyrics?

  • *A* prolly one of my most favorite celtic songs~ and this is such a lovely version!!

  • :'( its beautiful

  • O_o Wow! I love this song and i love this arrangement!

I play the harp and i love your hands, mark :)

Sorry for my bad english :( I want to say you more things but i don't know in english :P

    kisses!

  • It's a decent version of an old Scottish folk song. As someone said before, the song even quotes the River Clyde. Even Christy Moore will tell you that.

  • Absolutely my favorite rendition of this beautiful song. You have captured it perfectly! Great job!

  • yes slainte is irish.!!!

  • ok, true Irish people type out their accents. I'm from Scotland and you don't see me typing out rolling R's....

  • ahh i meant "Irish people DONT type out their accents"

  • so being scottish,....how exactly would you know?

  • lovely version. What tuning is the bouzouki player using...GDAD, GDAE or other?

  • man, that harp player is awful!.....just kidding, this is the best rendition of this song that i have heard. all of the musicians are awesome, especially with the low whistle and harp in there make it very haunting, along with the backing vocals.

  • Awesome tune =) Very nice.

  • 17th century maybe ... ehehehehe

  • Please guys some one out must have the bass tabs for this song. Please I need em asap!!!!

  • excellent rendition of an already excellent song!

  • Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. I expecially like the harp in this song.

Is there possibly an instumental version of this song, without vocals? The vocals are great as well, but to me, an instrumental version would be so much more soothing. The kind of song I'd listen to while lying in bed, to enable me to drift off into a peacful, pleasant sleep

  • Thank you! I love the harp too, but then as the harpist I'm biased! We do sometimes add an instrumental "verse" of this sometimes when we perform it live. I do think it's a great tune and one of my favourites that we play.

  • I also love the harpist, Mark!

This is DP, the lady who used you used to email back and forth with. Wish I could have gotten to the UK to visit you. Maybe some day! When are you coming to the Philadelphia area?

    Love,

    DP

  • REAL NICE VERSION

    THANKS

    PET SHOP PETE

  • This arrangement is captivating... smooth waves of lovely sound to sooth and satisfy all the way through. Thank you for a quality, lovely to hear and look at video!

  • yea slainte is used as a toast but also to say "to your health"

  • I see from your Sliante site that Sliante means cheers..that's cool...how would one pronounce this Sliante? I love the video so much

  • Strictly speaking Sláinte means health, however it is often used in Ireland as a toast - as in 'your health'

  • lovely, dreamy and admirably done...am so grateful for the quality

  • luv dis song sang very well....mwah class classic.... im proud 2 be irish wen i hear dis song..... up da dubs best people u'll ever meet.....

  • hi mark,

beatiful version i love it! ive been looking all over the country for low d sheet music for this tune, could you help??

    thanks !

  • Is that the same chap as the one who plays the fiddle on other stuff? Now playing woodwind? Is he general all-round genius, also in national football team and leading army in Afghanistan?

  • It's the same guy - he also plays bagpipes on one of our other videos. When he's not out meeting the Pope, etc...!

  • i don't think any other version is as good as this one

  • a song done up great!

  • Beautifully rendered!!! What kind of Flute is that and what key???

    Would love to know...Thanks!!!

  • Hi - it's a "low D" whistle (ie not strictly a flute as it's blown from the end, not the side). Hope that helps! It's a particularly difficult one to play because the finger-holes are so large.

  • Mark, the fingers arnt the problem, the diaphram is the real problem changing octaves etc. Suggest to him to retune a Bb standard down to an "A" it'll give him a lot of mileage on breath and dexterity and he'll be able to reel in to it :)

  • Awesome song, thanks for sharing!

  • Don't know how I got here :-).... Sure glad I did though 'cause this is lovely

  • Just amazing... I played a symphonic band arrangement of this two years ago, and to hear it this way is just amazing. Beautiful voice on your singer(s), and amazing all around. Thank you for posting this!

  • beautiful.... listen to it while playing couterstrike...

  • i dont know what that yank is on about, its a jock song end of story.

  • The song is Scottish not Irish, listen to the lyrics"I go to the Clyde and i mourn and weep"the Clyde, the river Clyde,Glasgow,Scotland, enough said.

  • what are you talkin bout?!! i think you'll find its a very old irish folk song! its as irish as irish cud get! and btw theres an area known as clyde in ireland... but those words arent even in the song so thats really not relevant

  • i thought dis was a christy moore song

  • Christy learned this from a fellow folk singer while doing a tour of British Folk Clubs way back in the sixties I think beautiful song I enjoy hearing it again

  • alrite!!!!!!! didn no dat haha

  • yup tis an irish-scottish song.......lovin it big!!!!!!

  • This is one of my favorite songs I've ever found on the net and their version is by far the best.

  • WOW...What a beautiful song!! Never heard it before, but it's absolutely gorgeous! Strikes a chord in my Irish heart.....And, where have I heard Lynne's voice before? Did she happen to perform on a CD called Women of Ireland?...I could've sworn I've heard her sing a song called New Caledonia..anyway, must get one of your Slainte CDs....

  • Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I love the harmonies! And, that's my favorite American folksong! :)

  • erm..sorry to inform you but It's not an American song.. It's a scottish-Irish song... :)

  • In America, it's credited as a folksong from the southern Appalachian Mountains. It was set down in Sharp's collection "English Folk Songs from the Southern Appalachians." Since the Appalachians were settled by English, Scots and Irish beginning in the 18th Century, yes the song probably did originate in The British Isles, but we know it and love it in America as an American folk song. :)

  • I have heard that song for first time about 2 weeks ago, and I think it's one of the most beautiful song i've ever heard. Thanks for uploading that video.

  • what a beautiful voice she has...thanks for both music and performance of you all :D ...

  • Thank you for visiting us and for your nice comments!

  • Thank YOU for your kindness on replying my comments...my pleasure and honour...please let me (let us) know whenever you decide to come over for a show tour in Brazil (São Paulo) :D !!!

  • Great version of a beautiful Scottish song

  • Very nice. I enjoyed your singing. :-)

    Happy New Year!

  • this is so beautiful though. thanks for posting this. i like your set-up because some of the other versions of this online are orchestral and i'd rather hear it as a folk song. the melody is the most beautiful thing i've ever heard. any websites or advice where i can find more? any really traditional versions?

  • BEAUTIFUL. i realized, i'm 1/2 irish, 1/2 norwegian whose ancestors came to america two generations ago. i connect with irish melody so much. it's crazy how deep some of these things can go. i think it's why america is so fucked up too but that's another story.

  • love it, wow.

  • Thank you!

  • This is one of my favorite songs. Your arrangement is truly beautiful. I first heard it on Windham Hill's Celtic Christmas 3, as an instrumental piece by James McNally. His use of instruments and the way his arrangement begins with fewer instruments, then builds depth and complexity as more instruments are added, carries the listener on a sensual and haunting journey. When I discovered YouTube just a few weeks ago, this was one of the first songs I looked for.

  • To the person who commented that Christy Moore does this a lot better, we did ask but he was washing his hair that night.

  • LOL! ;)

Some people just cant deal with something different...There are so many versions of this song floating around, but I like yours the best. Thank you for sharing with us!

  • its wonderful! I love it

  • Great job Mark, really nice sound. That song is very polular here in Newfoundland.

  • Nice! Love the Corrs version as well...

  • very impressive...that piper slash whistler of yeres is somehting else and theres just a fantastic sound with all this put together...im well impressed.

  • Thank you! We have recorded CDs in a studio, but personally I like the TV recordings we've done here, because they are recorded in one take - just like playing a gig, really!

  • I love this song, and it's played beautifully. I've heard it by The Corrs, and Banshee in the Kitchen, but your version is just as good. Cheers.

  • The first time when I heard this lovely song had a place in Poland, in the some castle, 'ksiaz' perhaps. It was the concert of Lincolshire Youth Choir and Symphony Orchestra. Since then I was looking for this amazing ballade without any resoults. And now you give me this pleasure to listening it. You don't have any idea how much I am grateful. Please, tell me have you recorded and published your CD album? I wish to buy one and I'm intrested is it possible to deliver it to my place in Germany?

  • wow! you're one of the members? wow great song! You really do justice to this irish traditional song. I love the way you guys play and the way your singers meld their voices together. Just listening to the song tugs at my heart at bring a tear to my eye. I can feel the love and the passion in the song. Well done! Very very wonderful work. I added this video to my favourites. It is so beautiful!

  • Thank you! That's me in the back, on the harp, and we're all still playing, and have added another member.

  • Beatutiful song. Thank You. Greentings from Slainte! from Warsaw, Poland.

  • this song is wonderful! I love this song!
