  • The flute is a heavy metal instrument.

  • i wish i could play guitar like that

  • read wikipedia about this album, anderson lost his range, and this does sound like a 1980's album, also there is elements of zz top...maybe this was better produced than metallica and also read wikipedia about this album...

  • Great song =]

  • Ian Anderson's lyrics have always intrigued me but for some reason I've wondered most about this song. Can anyone tell me what it's about?

  • @JobberBud It's about high rise steel beam jockies, building skyscrapers

..."I won't rest 'till the world is made"

Ian has stated that musical ideas just come to him, and many times he has bought another digital recorder, just to capture the idea in his head.

  • Love the guitars in this song.

  • They´re trying to sound like "ZZ Top" on this one and the track "Budapest" = "Dire Straits" light .-)

  • @fortheloveoftunes Among the inaine comments here you take the prize for sheer idiocy!

  • @Incomplete6230 Do my opinions hurt you dude? .-)

  • @fortheloveoftunes you twatt , Jethro Tull were doin it WAY before ZZ Top , this track and the whole album was good enough to win the Grammy for besy heavy rock album of 1988, check it out sonny

  • @MrGarrington120 Easy on da old-ticker oldtimer .-)

  • This song kicks ZZ Tops boogie over at least 6 zip codes inTexas, and I'll debate anyone over Tull's music vs Metallica, anywhere, anyday. Metal can have Metallica and all the others. I'll put Tull's songwriting and diversity of arrangements over 40 fucking years, against anything all these other"metal' groups can churn out. Metals heavy........................Tull is amazing!

  • @willicat441 The problem that I have is that Jethro Tull beat Metallica for BEST HEAVY METAL PERFORMANCE. While Jethro Tull is indeed an excellent band, they're not METAL. The only thing metal in Jethro Tull is the flute, and that's it.

  • Hahaha! Don't disgrace Jethro Tull's song by speaking of Metallica in this video.

  • @LetsPlayDMods METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA

  • i just got to say . iv'e seen this tour . and when he opened with "crossed-eyed mary , it was , just awesome !

  • THIS beat metallica?

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 well I can understand people think it wasn't a right decision, I mean JT is not heavy metal at all, BUT it's certainly 34534534534 times better than overrated Metallica

  • @Aqualung1989 Actually, i would have to completely disagree with you, because even though Jethro Tull IS a good band, they don't even come close to being as good as Metallica. And don't gimme that "Metallica sold out" crap, because they didn't, it was because they had a very crappy producer for years, so they were limited as to what they were able to do. Besides, Jethro Tull is NOT Hard rock/Heavy metal, which is the issue that i have.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 Jethro Tull is still much better. Metallica will never be as good.

  • @ThisNameIsG Okay, that's your opinion. (and it's also false)

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 oh come on, Metallica being better? Well it's your opinion and I respect it, but Jethro Tull's lyrics, versatility, density, etc, have no match. Metallica is quite a lot of speps down.

  • @Aqualung1989 Well, don't get me wrong- Jethro Tull IS a good band, but Metallica is much better, because Metallica blends together sound, skill, AND meaning to all of their songs.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 well I think JT blends those things much better than Metallica, but anyway it's no use discussing it, I mean everyone has his own opinion, end of the story :P

  • @Aqualung1989 indeed

  • @Aqualung1989 true

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 Suck it Metallica!

  • @stigler30 well, it's always good to know that Metallica has sold more than Jethro Tull... JUST so you know...

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 and abolutely crap artists like justin bieber are selling tons nowadays... does that mean something? If you think that selling more means making better music... and anyway, please could ALL of us this JT/metallica argument? it's useless

  • @Aqualung1989 Yes, i think this argument is ridiculous as well, but as long as people keep replying to me and keep the argument going, i'm gonna have to keep going as well.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 And cut a little deal in order to sell more of their God awful "music".

  • @stigler30 Their music is considered to be music more than Jetro Tull's. You know, you can ask anybody other than the people here.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 Who is this "anybody" you speak of? Children? because that is the only people that bullshit like Metallica could logically appeal to.

  • @stigler30 from the Online Dictionary:

    1. any person.

    2. A person of some importance.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 You're a typical pretentious teenager who has yet to discover good music. If you have not grown out of Metallica and like music by the time you are 21 then you are likely brain damaged.

  • @stigler30 EXCUSE me? I don't JUST listen to Metallica, they just happen to be one of my favorite bands. YOU'RE a typical pretentious buttfucker that judges people before you know anything else about them. And by the way, i know and appreciate music MUCH more then you do since i'm a music major right now.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 I didn't say you "just" listen to Metallica but if you think bullshit thrash like Metallica is better than Jethro Tull you're either retarded or psychotic.

  • @stigler30 Psychotic, maybe, but i have a HELL of a better sense of music taste then you do

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 Not if you think that bullshit Metallica is better than Jethro Tull. You just can't face reality can you? Don't worry it's probably because you're only 18 and like the "cool" music, when you reach you're 20's things will change if not then you're a retard.

  • @stigler30 I only appreciate music with real artistic merrit. i have no time to meddle with such trivial noises as the ones you listen to.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 And what so called "artistic merit" would you r precious little Metallica have? That's right: absolutely none. Metallica is nothing but a bunch of assholes who think that if they play loud people will think they're good.

  • @stigler30 "Play loud"? you obviously haven't ;istened to Load and Reload, probably their only albums in which they forfeited fast and loud for more meaning and emotion... but since you're not a music major, i guess you wouldn't know that, seeing as you're very inferior compared to me.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 Incidentally when I was an impressionable adolescent in the 90's those were my favorite Metallica albums, but I grew up and realized what a terrible band all around they were.

  • @stigler30 You're just mad because now you're old and pathetic, while i still have my youth

  • @stigler30 Besides, my issue, and the WHOLE reason why i said anything in the first place, is that this album beat Metallica for best HEAVY METAL performance, when this clearly is NOT heavy metal. This is ROCK, not METAL. That's like if Dire Straits beat Slayer for Best Heavy Metal performance, which, just like in this case, Dire Straits is a very ggod band, but they're not METAL. key word, METAL.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 This is when the metal and hard rock award were combined key word HARD ROCK! this is hard rock, what else you got you pompous little prick?

  • @stigler30 Hm, yes, combine ROCK and METAL, yes, that makes a WHOLE lot of sense, now, doesn't it?

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 They beat them for the Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance. Jethro Tull is hard rock. Therefore, "the WHOLE reason" you started this is void. Good day.

  • @TheNope666 There's just one problem with that logic- METAL and ROCK are two distinctly different styles. That's Like Foo Fighters against Anthrax, or Pearl Jam against Pantera. It just doesn't make sense. And i don't know if you've ever ;istened to "...And Justice For All", but it most CERTAINLY is more 'Hard Rock/Metal' than Jethro Tull.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 Hard rock and heavy metal are similar styles of music. Not the same, but they are similar. The award category wasn't for who was more "Hard Rock/Metal". It was for the best vocal or instrumental performance within those genres. Jethro Tull is a hard rock band and they won. Which I personally agree with due to JT's wide variety of influences and experimentation.

  • @TheNope666 Hard Rock and Heavy Metal are NOT similar. That's like saying Slayer is similar to Alice In Chains.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 So they're not similar despite the fact that heavy metal evolved from hard rock? And of course AIC and Slayer don't sound alike, but they both play heavy music so they are alike in that aspect. I could namedrop plenty of hard rock and metal bands that sound similar, but it would simply be a waste of time. All I'm saying is that it's not some unspeakable act to group hard rock and metal together for an award category, like you make it out to be.

  • @TheNope666 It actually is. Like now, they're grouping together rock/metal so Metallica and Megadeth will have to be compete against Foo Fighters and Shinedown for Grammy awards now. They need to get their shit together and sort it out.

  • @GOOCHMASTER15 What a travesty.

  • @TheNope666 truly it was led zeppelin they were the real early heavy metal band and truly they blowed hard

  • this song reminds me of my late dad..he was 25-year journeyman union iron worker..he "made" a lot of buildings in the skyline of a nearby city..

  • @bunkieb00

Hey bunkieb00, I am a Union Carpenter from a large city, I heard this song when it first came out, I believe in the early 80s and I became the Woodmonkey. I have worked closely with many Iron Workers over the years, they are the best!

  • @woodmonkey043 thanks much for the reply!!! my Dad was union all the way and 100% for made-in-america!! keep up the good work! we need more guys like you!!

  • Regardless..these dudes are creative, have a wide assortment of styles and sounds throughout their career. A well renowned band...period.

  • For some reason, this somewhat reminds me of ZZ Top's "Sleeping Bag."

  • @DJStompZone Did you meant to rhyme?

  • this is not metal its hard rock

  • @alacar91 Rock-no. TechnoRock. Call it what you want, only Jethro Tull can pull it off.

  • @alacar91 This isn't even Hard Rock.

  • steel monkeys built this great place we call U.S.A. ... thanx to all that still do the steel climb........... wooo hoo ... ahhrrrraaaahhhh ....thnxs jethro...

  • I just listened to a Tull song called Dark Ages, which was pretty awesome, this tune sounds like a completely different band, but im still diggin it. I luv it when bands change their sound, but still sound awesome. A bit of diversity. Great tune, woooo

  • @thuganomics84 Then listen to the likes of "Heavy Horses" and "Songs From the Wood", which were really folksy, and then "Stand Up", which was a mix of jazz/psychedelic/hard rock.

  • I was being sarcastic on the "unfortunantly" part ppl. I was a Tull fanatic while the boys from metalica were still on moms teat

  • I think this is the album that won them the grammy for best metal band, unfortunatly beating metalica

  • @Opalhearts02 the most awesome thing is, that though they aren't metal, they still are more trve than Black Sabbath and Priest and... No, not more than Iron Maiden. Maiden kicks ass.

  • @Opalhearts02 Yeah right, you are all BORING with that bullshit Metallica, lay of with them, Metallica is not near that good as everyone talks, fuckin media pumped up band.

  • @AORCrazy you obviously are delusional. media pumped?! LMAO! metallica was huge and selling gold records before the media even touched them! and i suppose the media is the reason 80% rock/metal bands list metallica as an influence to their music?

  • @specimen25 Listen man, it's common known that people make up stories when they like something, so take your numbers and lie somebody else, ok? You can't lie me, i listened more bands than you listened times to M$tallica.

  • Tull goes ZZtop, awesome!!

  • gotta love the old skool shit

  • unbelievable tekkers! ive been rocking this tune continously for the last two weeks, brilliant!

  • I just came in my pants , JETHRO TULL FOREVER <3

  • Ian Anderson creates such varied sounds. Compare this hard rocker to the beautiful sound of Summerday Sands.

A true genius of his craft.

  • 4 people are cretins

  • @Lucap1000 dame strait

  • Im nineteen and my generation is amazing, I have so much old amazing music left undiscovered and it's like a treasure hunt on hte internet looking for it. Like the vast undiscovered frontier.

  • @jlawton22. Right said. Nirvana killed the entire music scenario 20 years ago.

  • @axn36 dude,I checked your activity, stop being such a nirvana troll, all what you are showing us is that you are a troll,at least stay away from nirvana videos cause nobody gives a fuck about your opinion!

  • @zveena> Yes, I know that, none gonna give a fuck to my comments. But you also admitted that so many good stuffs are there hidden like this Jethro song. Nirvana glamorized depression, frustration, psychological problems etc. He made the entire decade of 1990s as a decade of hot dry summer & migraine. In fact, I was a teenager in the 1990s & I bought cassettes & CDs of then released Ace of Base in the 1990s. Those songs are positive. In rock & metal, I prefer Maiden, Napalm Death or Slayer.

  • @zveena. Nirvana is not music.

  • @axn36 Ah you're stupid!

  • @zveena. Proud to be a stupid but always anti Nirvana.

  • I remember finding this lp in the trash and blasting this song over and over and over! awesome

  • Jethro Tull Rocks saw him in 71 and it was a blast.

  • @sp3xs Him??? :)

  • YEAH.... i GOT THE FREAKIN' VINYL... a teen in the 60's. Is it ZZ TOP? No... it's a TON (TULL) better! Martin's riffs still blow me away... and Ian can sing just 'bout any style.

  • *****STEEL MONKEY ROCKS!*****

  • how do u save vids on faves nowadays?

  • @sheepsick hit "add to" under the vid and select favorites. It's right next to the "share" icon. Hope this helps. :D

  • Amen about Martin Barre, I've heard one of his solo albums, supremely easy listening. Good foot stomping music.

  • I love this whole album. I can't get over how similar the vocals of this tune are to those of Dire Straits!!!

  • @tcdarden13 i dont think that he sounds like mark knopfler here
