  • maestro cósmico !!!

  • You know the way he does this is so great, I just can't over it........

  • yes I agree steve is by the FAR probably the best at what he does ,just his pedal steel alone is amazing and know one can touch him . and then his guitar is way complicated beyond belief ,to try to play . and there is allways so much emotion in his work .Other then Hendrix I vote him the best guitarist ever , and he Rules the pedal steel!! love you Steve!!

  • A true musical genius, he played instruments never heard by most, adapted them to the Yes style of music, absolutely genius!

  • D.A.M.N. I now have to buy a slide guitar, just so I can learn this. I have this record, and this song blows my mind. It's so beautifully made, and of course, mainly that solo lead, and the singing is lovely. Nice to hear Steve singing it here, he's actually got a great voice and accent for it. Thanks!

  • ssssssssssssslide guitar at it's absolute BEST!

  • Quiet Please...Genius at Work..

  • @windsors Do they have a Troll of the month award? you have my nomination.

  • I bow to you Steve in awe and respect.Just wonderful.

  • ho avuto la fortuna di sentirlo dal vivo è di un emozione unica.

  • Uno de los más bellos solos del rock progresivo de todos los tiempos.

  • perfetto

  • CAPOLAVORO

  • Best anti-stress therapy. And it´s beauty.

  • I enjoy every note. Steve Howe shows that not ever faster is better. He is a great musician (composer and player) and he loves his art. Uh... Any question Mr. @ Wackofreako: Who is Butthead?

  • Anyone know what kind of guitar this is? Haunting tone. He really makes it weep.

I wish he would've used this one in the big YES 'Soon' live video instead of the old Fender. That guitar sounds a little too 'Hawaiian' for my tastes.

Great job here. It's really beautiful.

  • hey! Buckethead is better than this ole' troll-lookin' fuck.

God, it must be hard to have mirrors in your house Steve.

  • @wackofreako buckethead LOL buckethead has no talent. Young fools think that buckethead is good.

  • @wackofreako You don´t need mirrors. Need a brain.

  • STEVE HOWE IS A FREAKIN' MACHINE!!! YES!!!

  • @padmaxey

Better than a machine, a true artist....

  • A true professor of music

    none better

  • @yea78861 yeah! "Profess" my ass.

Steve, O.K. you are the best.

Steve Hackett told me in NYC..

    SFW.

Belew told me ( with his new toys) in Poughkeepsie.

So why not bring your lame ass back to Upstate NY, and swallow your pride.

    All due respects.

  • That was just beautiful.

  • Oh steve! This gave me the warmest feeling of longing. Just beautiful and honest. Thank you!

  • you can tell he's never done drugs.

  • ...that melody is engrained in my heart. Howe's slide playing is so emotional... and i like his vocal -- sounds like early Crimson somehow.

  • i agree. as i get older 50, jon voice is too high pitched. still lovem.can't wait 2 c them in june 24 in baltimore. this will b the 8th time. not enough though cause i missed their show a few times, ithink is gotton alot better over the years. he sounds sooo goood .love him still just like i did when i was a teenager

  • guitarist extraordinaire...sublime!!!

  • Steve Howe and the sound that he can acheive with a guitar is unmatched by any, the closest that I have ever heard since is Chris Degarmo from Queensryche. The rich haunting melodies that Steve Howe created are what inspire many others to try and to learn.

  • Muy lindo.. precisa diser mais?

  • steve is definitely my biggest influence as a guitarist, hearing the gates of delirium for the first time completely changed the way i look at music, normally when you learn too play other peoples songs you can just do it in one go but with steve and yes you learn it all and every time you listen too the song you see a tiny little touch that youve missed and that is why he is a true genious

  • Funny how people think the 5 time Guitar Player BEST Overall Guitarist can be considered underrated! Steve Howe is a legend- Even Segovia preached his talents.

I am unaware of any other player who is a versatile as Howe, Perhaps only Steve Hackett. Certainly no one pays as beautiful or as sublime.

  • @bmlvail - You have a strange sense of humor if you find that funny. Steve Howe is on a level that no awards could even begin to pay homage to.

  • I saw Yes several times in concert in the 70's, including once on the Relayer tour. Changed my life forever. Steve is beyond phenomenal. He is so under-appreciated. I would love nothing more than to see him given the permanent recognition he so deserves.

  • Posiblemente sean los tonos mas dulces del rock progresivo; una interpretacion irrepetible y un invalorable aporte a la música de todos los tiempos.

Logicamente se extraña la voz de Jon, pero es un tema precioso, sin discusion.

  • he was a really down to earth guy.. we werent allowed to shake his old hands lol

  • I don't think he shakes anybody's hand these days. Probably worried about damage to those amazing digits. He also wears copper bracelets to combat rheumatism. There's no clinical evidence this is so but he swears by them

  • Steve is the Man! Great guitarist!!!

  • viva el maestro, solo falta jon para hacer la dupla del milenio

  • One Word..Original 2 words F'g Original..

  • God...the sun will lead us...get it !????YES

  • This is one of my Favorite Yes tunes. The Relayer Album - in my opinion - is some of their best work. And that's saying a lot. Steve Howe - One of the most incredible guitarists of our time.

  • All the musicians I respect and/or love are 10 to 15 years older then myself. What shall I do when the last left me with nothing but memories. This odd looking question puzzles me for long.

    Steve, please become 120.

  • Your not alone, I have the exact same thoughts now in my late 40's.

  • Sounds good to me too...

I love Jon Anderson's voice as well, but I think Steve can sing much better than Jon could sit in and play the guitar part!

  • Can't sing? He sounds great to me. Wish I could sing that well. Were you expecting the high parts???? Truly, their most melancholy song. So sad, really. Is it in D minor?

  • Perfect pitch...the most melodic guitarist who has ever lived...

  • The cat has such an anti-rock star tude. Fact is, he'd be passionately playing in his basement even if he'd never been in a famous band, simply because he just loves beautiful music. When he plays pedal steel, he reminds me of the fiery passion of of the licks of Floyd's David Gilmour. Of course, Gilmour can only wish for the talent in Howe's fretting pinky! Funny things is, growing up I thought of Yes as being a keyboard-driven band. True, but Howe's playing is such a defining element as well.

  • He's the most versatile guitarist who has ever lived. Saw him play this live and it was just stunning - he can't sing though! lol But he's the reason I took up playing the guitar - I just wish I could have been 100 times worse rather than a 1000.

  • Invents progressive rock and also plays a 1940's lap steel . . .way cool !!!

  • Wow. I love it.

  • maestro , maestro steve howe, sencillamente y para ahorarnos todo el choro, que hermosa es su musica ...............

  • Sencillamente maravilloso. Melodías recorren los sentidos. Steve for ever!!!

  • i love that u bothered to watch the video and then actually commented that lmao

  • An absolute priceless video and audio capture of the most spectacular player of our time; thanks!

  • And in those days there were musical Giants on the Earth. No more to be seen the likes of.

  • Wonderfull from 35 years

  • Absolutely Beautiful. I hope your reading these intries Steve...

  • That was amazing.

  • Siempre estoy en el origen, por lo visto esta escrito, maravillas de multicolor me llevan de nuevo a casa..................

  • A living legend. Steve Howe.

  • Still makes me cry every time I hear it...

  • extraordinario!!...que belleza de música

  • ke pekeño es el espacio, estamos en el.......

  • The music of Yes and Pink Floyd will NEVER be matched. One of a kind, a unicorn. Likewise, there will never be guitarists like Gilmour and Howe ever again.

  • I agree but would add Genesis when Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett was with them.

  • @greekgator01ss My two favorite bands also.........cerebral but from the heart and soul.

  • This guy is the most underrated guitarist on the planet...

  • I had to lookk Belgium up on a map. Not...a tourist trap...good mazzy star type sleepy end of night music. thanks! Guys! good!

  • all of the best goes to those gates. G~dspeed.

  • Here is a true one of a kind...........that we will all remember and love !

  • Incredible...he should have been a tenured professor at a performing arts school.

But I'm sure the path of fame he chose has rewarded him comfortably, so...

life's a tradeoff. Thanks, Steve, for your inspiration and thank you for the posting, mougoul!

  • damn, Steve Howe is just a wonderful guitarist. Steve and Chris Squire led me into a trip of fantastic learning of the instrument. I play bass ( a Rickenbacker 4001 and 4003 ) go figure. Some have said Howe was abit sloppy but just listen or better yet watch Mood For A Day. He will always be in my heart for he is one of the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well, for someone who I thought couldn't sing his way out of a paper bag, Steve actually did a fairly good job of arranging his vocal style for that song--my favorite Yessong of all time. Very nicely done! Lap steel playing--impeccable.

  • I cried like a baby. Still moves me as it did years ago. Thank you for sharing.

  • Dito Dito - some of the most moving music ever...and 28 years on, to listen affresh brings back memories like not much else ever could!

  • Classic!

    Untouchable!

    Few willever reach his talent...

  • bravísimooooo!!!!!!!!!!

  • the great Stive always live in this song... forever...

  • Steve Howe the best of the best, god of gods

  • ty for all the beauitful fantastic work over the years steve..you're an inspiration to every guitarist...yours is some of the greatest stuff ever played

  • Bravo.

  • Rockn roll was born in america but the brits took the rock nroll to themselves.

we cant compare, they can act in any style, progressive, heavy, hard

I love the British Bands, including yes OFF COURSE

  • just a great song; Howe is a genius.

  • I met Howe many years ago in Michigan. Great guy. He said he missed his family in England.

This is a great study for reverb/delay.

I play on a Vox DA20 portable at Bon Fires occasionally with a Line 6 pocket pod.

    I'm learning this one.

  • I believe that at times we don't just listen with our Ears but with our Heart. At these times, sonic perfection becomes irrellivant. It is how the music makes us feel that makes what we hear, "Wonderous"!

    Would you agree? Yes?

  • If nothing else, Master Howe's voice has a calming effect to it. Maybe he's not Jon Anderson, but he certainly has a fine quality to him.

  • @ashleylynnjoan I love the sound of his voice. Very breathy. I agree it's a calming sound. Bob Dylan as calms me

  • Brilliant, moving performance. Truly one of the greatest guitarists that ever walked the earth.....

  • Fuck anyone who says he doesn't have a good voice, he's got a great voice, you know how hard it is for someone his age to do something solo, aka without YES. He really has a great voice though.

  • Mother Earth, hold firmly on to me,nothing but pure unadulterated love

  • This song with Steve at the guitar, raise my spirit so high, thanks YES.

  • i think he sings pretty well, also remember hes 1/3 of that famous YES harmony...

  • I was never a big Howe fan until recent years. I was facinated by Asias reunion and took a "new" listen to the first Asia album and was really blown away by the entire set. The songs are just so well crafted. Steve Howe is certainly one of the top five guitarests of the past century. Please don't respond with your favorite guitarist list as this is just my opinion. (Chet Atkins is on my list by the way) It saddens me to see Steve looking so frail.

  • he's 60+ years old dude he's not gonna look like he did in the 70s

  • Just saw Steve with his Trio and In the Present and he has been looking his age lately. Still the greatest. Ultimate professional

  • beautiful.....

  • I quite like his singing. I think people are just used to Jon's perfection.

  • wow is his singing awful. love this playing though

  • Thank you so much, Mougoul. If not for you and YouTube I would never have seen this masterpiece.

I'm sure Steve would admit that he's not the world's best singer, but I love him and his his music, and it's clips like this that (hopefully) show us what he's all about.

Thank you, Steve Howe. A genious and a gentleman.

  • faltou o cara

  • Jon Anderson sings better, doesn't he?

  • Without a shadow of a doubt!

  • And Steve Howe plays the guitar as well as Jon Anderson sings.....to each his own.

  • What else can one say about his skills as as a guitar player? He's great. But he has his limitations: singing. His voice is feeble, his tune out of pitch. If Jon's not there, hire yourself a decent singer!

  • Roger Hodgson?

  • I don't care if he never sings another word; God put him here to be a great guitarist.

  • God, how does he get that tone from his lap steel?

  • soon so soon the light

  • Mr Howe....

Worlds greatest guitarplayer and also a singer...

Mr...you have spread so much love around you and our father... The Sun...

We are all sons of the sun, but you shine very very bright...

Thanks for many hours of happiness through the years.

And Relayer is still on side twos last part very hard to beat.

    all the best...

    magnusdering

ps. listen to; conrad oberg... a boy that will be the greatest bluesplayer, please if you also think that...post him a note, and a guitarr..

  • Well done Steve Howe! Beautiful notes!

  • The Best

  • He is not the best singer, buth for the rest.

Great thanx for posting! (what a sad buth o so beatifull melody! +4

  • each originial member of yes is a master of his instrument.

  • Like walking through the door of Heaven...There is something highly spiritual in this melody

  • This melody is so beautifull, it brings tears to my eyes...

  • It is beautiful to hear and yet makes me sad

and nostalgic for the glory years of this

    great group.

Proud of Steve doing it for us even to this day.

  • Listening to this piece again after long pause, and....still, Steve Rocks!!

  • I respectfully disagree. His voice is very original and unexpected. Of course hes not gifted with the "right kind" of voice to sing this tune, but he just does it, I love his courage. Sometimes in life we are just not ready for surprises like that, we keep on waiting for the obvious stuff...I loved him at 20 and still do at 47.

  • He sings well for his age. At 60 if you haven't trained all your life for singing, you can't sing any better than this.

    Anyway great vid.

  • O Yes ainda mora em mim

  • I nearly cryied, pure genius 5 stars!

  • This music is as dear to me now as it was in 1975! Nice to hear Steve's voice, the lower register in all the vocal blends.

  • you're so genious howe

  • As a Genesis fan, I have always like Yes. This song is the prog ballad anthem for Yes as Afterglow was for Genesis. I find myself listening to this over and over. Tremendous.

  • amazing steve

  • nice song. though the singing should be by jon anderson

  • Strange to hear it sung by someone else, especially Steve whose voice I've rarely heard. I do like it though, its a nice variation.

  • bought that album when i was 14,it blew my mind.My classmates listened to abba, and other kinds of popmusic, while i was in another world .

  • i saw him do this last week - amazing...!!!

  • I was in EXACTLY the same boat as you...same age too.

We YES fans are a special breed, I think

  • hehe i am now in this boat like you say. Yesterday i was wearing a yes relayer t-shirt at my school and nobody knew what it was... and by the way we are 3000 student at my school.

  • Delirium Steve.....!

  • Codiclear, your awesome... Someone who gets it in here... And you don't even play well

:( The playing comes form the heart, it inspire us to be the best we can be as human beings...

  • This is THE BEST slide work by ANY guitarist. So emotional.

  • lindoooooooooo,........simplesmente londo......ouçam........

  • lindo.....obvmt....

  • that said, not that you did a bad job steve...it was remarkable as always....actually, more than remarkable. Soon is one of the best collaborations you and Jon ever put down on vynil. This is a BEAUTIFUL interpretation! Steve, You ARE my guitar god for almost 30 years now!

  • I think its great to hear him sing. Jon's still the best but its nice to hear the others singing.

  • i'm crying both because steve's guitar playing is SO BEAUTIFUL....oh my god, it's heaven, BUT please leave the vocal to jon anderson or anyone else. Steve, you were meant to play guitar and sing "backup" vocals. if jon's vocals were on this video, it would be the best i have ever seen of "soon"

  • This is just him doin' his own song - something he wrote. I thought he was true to any album he ever played that song on. I mean that shit was dead on. The vocals were obviously something he felt would complete the tune. He wrote that sucker and many other great pieces that he ensembled with Yes. I will go to their concerts till the day I die -or they do - which ever comes first.

  • i hope you know that this was the ending to The Gates of Delirium, not something he made up out of nowhere

  • Gran pieza musical, tremendo y creativo musico y que gran guitarrista. Le perdono el haber cantado, porque en eso si que no tiene nada de genial.

  • Superb!

  • Howe is it that: I listen, read, (all the comments), and yet have a smile as my eyes tear through the albums, tapes and digi-abominations I have suffered. And view again this "download"!

    Am I "beside myself" ?

    G. of D.

  • What melody!Steve's a genius.
