Alec is a genetic twin of Ben; a member of Max's Unit who she 'regards' as siblings (because they're the only think close to family she had) but they're not 'biologically' related, and Zack (another member of her unit) had feelings for Max so its only *her* that thinks of her comrades as siblings, not the rest of them and since Alec is a twin of Ben but not Ben himself, its not yuck at all really if you think about it :)
