try mixing the food coloring with petroleum jelly it give it a congealed glossy look

I came to a similar results using the same thing with corn syrup. :) If you also want to add a little gore to the mix, add some peanut butter, I find the chunkier the better.

I'm definitely using this for Halloween this year! I'm what you call "monetarily challenged" at the moment so that red food coloring and chocolate sauce is a GREAT idea, so is the toilet paper. It looked very realistic! I'm going for a zombie/dead nurse thing...so that will definitely help!

Doesn't matter at all! Nestle Quik might even be better because it's a thicker consistency. The only reason I used that stuff is because the store brands are always cheaper.

For small cuts, I'd suggest drawing on lines with a black or brown eyeliner pencil and then putting the blood on top
