  • Is Steve even on this song ?

  • @booniedigful Never mind I hear him at the end .

  • Wow, this is truely a great song.

  • is it suppose to be faded and then fade in clear?

  • There's only only steve perry. He sings so powerfully without effort.Let's not forget, he was on the road for at least ten years straight..He still sounds incredible. hearing this makes me believe he should do a blues album with eric clapton. That would be grammy winner for sure.I was in the music biz and i can tell you that Journey with perry would still exist if neal would not be such a ego maniac and pull his head out of his ass. It would help all of us escape our problems to see it for a night

  • @gugen12 Very well stated!!!!

  • Rollie was the man. Rollie and Neal should have stuck together, kept the core of the band. I was never a Steve Perry fan. just my two cents:)

  • Perry sent them into the teeny bop realm where they flourished and got rich as hell.

The best thing about Steve Perry with Journey was that I got to exit "Day on the Green" shows at the Oakland Coliseum before traffic got out of control!!!

Best shows in the country at the time!!!

  • all things got an end! only the sausage has 2 of it!

  • steve ruined the band

  • @f1ncart1 He did not ruin the band he saved it ...He quit to save his own life....Look at Amy winehouse..

  • one of the greatest songs from the 70s!!!!

  • Actually Prarie Prince was the original drummer.

  • @lwmisner3 Ansley Dunbar was the original drummer. Prarie Prince was with the band that sang White Punks on Dope.

  • @patrickc54 The Tubes feat. Fee Waybill = WPOn Dope.

  • @patrickc54 ......Does anybody remember The Ansley Dunbar Retaliation???? Victor Bronx on vocals? Ansley on drums...couple of albums....he was also with The Mothers of Invention. Neal & Gregg with Santana...when they all went their separate ways and formed this version of Journey....loved this song...still do. Peace

  • Yes Journey was an amazing group before Steve Perry! But Steve Perry changed music the VOICE is still a standard not met!

and BTW Steve Smith replaced Ansley Dunbar

  • YEA GUYS ! THE TRUE JOURNEY WAS BEFORE STEVE PERRY! THATS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN AND NEVER WAS GIVEN THE RIGHT JUSTICE!!! LOVE STEVE BUT,,,,,,,,,,,,, THE TRUE JOURNEY... WAS WITH GREGG ROLLIE ,ROSS VALORY, STEVE SMITH,NEIL SCHON, PERIOD!

  • @debrafromct Aynsley Dunbar was their original drummer.

  • Whats the name of this song ?

  • @booniedigful Look Into The Future

  • Ummm...Look into the Future was BEFORE Perry....

Just in case you didn't know.

    Perry's debut was on Infinity.

  • Ummm...Look into the Future was BEFORE Perry....

Just in case you didn't know.

  • That is Gregg on lead vocals and Perry is back up vocal you can hear Steve singing chorus,,,in the end, great recording love them when they sung together!!!!

  • good job on the presentation.....bravo!

  • Gregg Rolie will be back in Dallas on Sept. 30 at Poor David's Pub...

  • I think Steve sing a little at the end is clearly his voice

  • Gregg and SPerry the best singers W Journey> ROCKS!!

  • He has a great blues voice, which I forget.

  • This is really an awesome song containing alot of the infamous Jouney licks! Would love to one day get this in high quality audio for download! Anyone know where please mssg me! thanks for sharing!

  • VINTAGE JOURNEY ....Love it !!!!

  • Steve Perry is not on this recording. That is Gregg Rolie singing. I have the 1st three Journey albums.

  • @irietoy your right thats not steveo

  • These guys were really awesome!

  • i want to cry!!!amazinging this is the music!!!!!journey brings back so many memories!!!

  • My generation doesn't even understand music. This right here? This is real. This is music, this is everything that it should be. Life would be a little sweeter if we could walk down the street and hear beautiful sounds like this blasting out of cars instead of...well..crap.

  • Oh my god.... just when I thought I'd heard it all. I love the 1st 3 albums (pre-Perry era). It's interesting hearing Steve P take on a classic like "Look into the future". If only the tensions in the band didn't exist during and after ROR. Who knows how many more stellar songs and albums could be created. (I'm not trying to knock down Steve A or Arnel... it's just not the same)

  • @kdl92568 This isn't Steve Perry singing.

  • Steve Perry yum

  • The first 3 Journey albums are the shit. They got commercial when Steve joined, but hey you got to make money. Their most rocking album is NEXT but I live this song. Ansley Dunbar was one hell of a drummer. The first three records are overlooked, too bad. Real musiciaship here.

  • @10INCHCRUSHER There is nothing wrong with commerical when it's done on such a high level as the first 3 or 4 Perry albums. Up until "Escape" with Rollie still in the band they were an unbeatable combination. They had a great singer/keyboardist in Rollie, an evern greater one in Perry who could hit any high note with full pitch & tone without sounding & being gay like Freddie Mercury, one of the greatest drummers of all time in Steve Smith & a Mahavishnu-influenced young Neal Schon on guitar.

  • neal --talented but pretty damn dumb!!!

  • Yes, Rush drummer is great...I wonder what they are up to now and what Aynsley is up to.

  • I was Ansley Dunbar's Roadie 1974-76 pre Steve Perry. We went to Europe for 3and a half months with Carlos, and Eric Burton and the Animals,In my eyes , that was Journey at there best. When they jamed (at every show) with Carlos ........WOW, I still get chills thinking of it...........I WAS PART OF IT .

  • @1950boz I agree. I saw them at least 20 times from 1975 thru 1978. I grew up in San Mateo, CA. so had the advantage of being in the know, & seeing a lot of their shows. Also they used their music in Lazarium, music synced to Laser effects. I have at least two flyers from the shows that have a big advertisement for their 1st. Album stating "Enjoy Journey!" w/ lazarium effects in the background.

Perry came in I said WTF... Rolie & Ansley left, I said to Journey...Later.

  • Carlos required Neal and Gregg to join his religion or else? how funny, that of course had nothing to do with it...Anyway, John Lennon said the 70's were a drag, and for him and some others it was, but thanks to Journey (both the original band and after Steve joined) and a few others, it was well worth the trip.

As a musician myself I deepy appreciate all of them, especially Aynsley who may well be the greatest rock drummer of all time.

  • @RANDYS111 Dunbar was excellent, but Neil Peart of Rush is the best rock drummer ever. Whatever, though, Rush and Journey (at least in this period) REALLY did American rock proud.

  • @didymus46 Only detail is that Rush is Canadian.

  • I first saw Journey in 1975, All I can say is that when Perry came aboard they went the way of AM radio....candy ass!

  • @Zfan240 When Perry came aboard they started MAKING MONEY you MORON!

  • @Zfan240 THANK_____YOU! Seriously, I 1 Million % Agree! I first saw them back then too. They had 3 outstanding albums that weren't selling as well as record execs had hoped. They assumed they weren't commericial. Perry was brought in. Poor Gregg and his smoother better vocals was pushed out So that Perry can go Whoa whoah! Whoa whoah Whoa! Sad, but money talks! Record companies are always unforgiving CANDY ASSES!!

  • This jam is incredible. Neal's tones... Gregg's vocals are perfect on this tune. The hammond sounds great, everything... for me, this is the epitome of classic 70's rock. Lots of space in the song, lots of dynamics, so you can hear each band members individual sounds coming through... priceless jam. And Neal, wow, always a great tone to his axe, w/ tons of great licks... this tune never gets old, because it's more than a song, it captured the excellent experience of the time. Great tune

  • Everyone can argue till the Chinese make cottage cheese. This is still my favorite Schon solo. On the studio recording...to have that fury, chops and passion at such a young age...damn. I heard it in 1974 and I have never gotten over it...he is literally lashing at the rafters, generating jaw dropping drama at mid-tempo..."just around the corner"....indeed.

  • wow I was a huge Journey fan in the 80's and I remember having there first few albums like this one. I forgot how musically progressive they were. It was nice to find this gem I haven't listened to these songs in years.

  • steve perry is was and always will be journey, they can get 1000 singers ,not even close ,all karaoke jokies.the only ones who like the other guy are the kids today who are clueless

  • @kidcanvas

I'm 19, and I HATE every new guy after Steve. I have every Journey album from Infinity to Trial By Fire. Journey was what got me into music when my mom first showed me, I was around 9 yrs old. To this day, Steve Perry remains my pick for greatest vocalist of all time, and there is NOT ONE SINGER ON THIS PLANET who could even come close to replacing him. But, there are a few of us rare youngsters who know that Journey died when Steve left. There's still some hope hahaha :)

  • Comment removed

  • @MrFramesfan i hope steve perry did not bribe your youthfulness to hate son. just sayin it no pun. got so lucky none of kids are empty-headed when it comes to music.

  • @royalmile88

I get what you mean, but "hate" is word used in more of a casual setting a lot of times these days. When people say I "HATE" that guy, or I "HATE" that team or whatever, they don't actually intend to inflict the same tone of serious contempt. Basically I meant that, compared to steve perry, I very much do not like the other singers that followed him. I guess that may be a fault of society nowadays that the connotation of the word has changed a bit, but I can assure you, I don't

  • @royalmile88

"hate" in the sense you're talking about, no reason fret. Steve was not a catalyst of hate in my life.

  • @MrFramesfan holy cow, i would have more faith in humanity if more 19 year olds thought and listened like you.

  • @titirimundis

Thank you! Hahaha yes, there's a few of us out there...Not enough though! Too many youngsters are focused on things that don't matter-falling for commercialist money scheming, etc., you know. Young people these days don't think or feel for themselves much, they just follow the pack. It's pretty sad. But thank you for the compliment!

  • I haven't come across this article. I have read and watched many interviews over many years and never heard this one. I hope Neal realized later on what an asset Steve was and put Journey on the charts even though he seems very bitter toward Steve now.

  • @trollycar22 If it wasn't for Steve Perry Neal would have been driving a garbage truck in the East Bay and collecting a Teamsters pension with a bad back. He was always a decent guitar layer but his band(s) were always missing the money mark until Perry stepped in and made all of them money, fame and admiration. Neal knows this in his heart and it galls him even today because he is a petty little man.

  • @HighMindedLunacy I disagree with that statement. Shon would have picked up with another band, or he would have moved to L.A. to do session work had Journey not ever had any success. Neal was too talented not to have made a good living in the industry. And I don't know what you are talking about when you call him a petty little man. I am assuming you personally know him, otherwise you wouldn't have made that statement.

  • While waiting for gigs the group started playing and recording original material with a distinctive jazz-fusion style and abandoned the original “back up group” concept. They began performing and quickly developed a strong local following. They attracted the attention of a local San Francisco FM station KSAN to hold a contest to see if a better name could be given to the GGRS.

  • When this proved unsuccessful roadie John Villaneuva suggested the name "Journey." The band's first public appearance came at the Winterland Ballroom on New Year’s Eve, 1973.

  • I hate Jonathon Cain. In comes the piano crap out goes the Hammond B3 with the Leslie. Lame ever since.

  • Interesting. Thanks for posting.

  • ok folks, here goes, santana changed his religion .and ask neil and others to do the same, but they where still young and did not want to go into santana s new religion.

i know this for a fact i spoke with chipito and neil on this.they where still into drugs at this point.perry came later after asking to join the band many times.as he watched neil and gregg.but I MUST SAY THE FIRST JOURNEY ALBUM IS THE BEST.IT WHAT THEY WANTED TO PLAY FROM THERE SOUL AND HEART.

  • @twiman2 Steve never asked to join the band. Herbie heard Steve's band and told Schon that he wanted Steve for vocals.

  • @twiman2 if you knew them, you would know that his name is spelled NEAL. 'nuff said.

  • what songs did neal sing on the first 3 albums?

  • Whoa. What happened to the video? Whether there was a surgery or not, those matters shouldn't be anyone else's business. Even if you know Perry or the band personally, it's still none of your beeswax to be nosing into. It's all in the past anyway. With all the debating, you're only going around in circles. Can't we just sit back and enjoy these gems that Journey has created? (big thanks to mariet2 for posting) :D Journey is there to CREATE music, & the fans to ENJOY it, is that not correct? :P

  • great song wow haven't heard this in years, "thank you" brought back memories

listening to schon damn that guy is such an underrated guitarist

  • Absolutely, the many reincarnations of Journey are good, but it is still very difficult to recreate the absolute magic of electricity in a bottle???

  • @txwrestling-no, he had degenerative joint disease in his hip. Became acute while preparing for the TBF tour. In the Focus interview, he made it clear that they were planning to tour in the summer. . He was only in his 40's & would want to investigate major surgery that might have to be repeated. No way he could have handled hours on his feet night after night while moving all over the stage.

  • @ TexasRokker and Imagineart, Didn't Steve Perry leave Journey because of throat cancer? I'm not real sure where this hip-replacement theory comes into play because something of this magnitude would have been front page news for MTV, VH1, and any other venue that cares about music. With respect, if I am wrong about the hip-replacement being true, then my appologies on that.

  • @txwrestling1989 Perry addressed the throat cancer rumor in interviews-said that when seen with his Mom at her MD people didn't recognize her, but they did him, & because of the kind of specialist's office the rumor became viral that he had cancer. Re: the hip pain-when he did the VH1 interviews, it would be the opposite-they would have tried to prove him a liar about the hip surgery-that would be news. The fact that they didn't supports his claim-plus, he'd have a scar, which is proof enough!

  • imagineart, keep believing the magazines. In your little world, I guess that's all you have to go by. In the meantime, those of us who know the truth will laugh at people like you.

  • @TexasRokker Only verifiable facts, or verifiable disproved stories create truth. When Perry went on VH1 & told about the joint disease, any good journalist, + Herbert would have tried to prove him wrong. The fact that they didn'tverifies his story-& you can't fake the surgical scar. I have degenerative hip disease at 57. It is common, can become acute suddently after years of occasional aches . A man in his 40's whose hobby is hiking would search for every other option before surgery.

  • @gluchnurse - Herbie has REPEATEDLY stated the hip thing was a lie. Where have you been, under a rock? Also, no one (especially not you) has seen a scar. Hell, even Perry himself hasn't seen this "scar". And do you really believe half the eshit on the Behind the Music thing? If so, I have beachfront property in Central Africa and an ocean view in Kansas to sell you! A full 90% of what was filmed was not aired on the BTM thing. You're delusional. Funny, but delusional nontheless!

  • @TexasRokker Correction, Herbie has repeatedly stated that he THINKS the hip thing is a lie, while in the same breath saying that he hasn't seen Perry since Bill Graham's wake in San Francisco at Golden Gate Park-which was several years BEFORE Trial by Fire was recorded, and therefore several years before the hip issue. Any good journalist could have proven that he DIDN'T have the surgery, because no one's medical records are totally secure-so where is this 'scoop'?

  • @gluchnurse - Herbie never said he "thinks" it. He knows it. Secondly, no one outside of a few old Journey fans and obsessed old women really gives a shit whether Perry got a hip replaced, had throat cancer, was ever married to Sherrie, has kids, grandkids, or ever got a root canal. No one cares enough to "dig" in the first place. Hence the fact there is no supporting documentation, so to speak, proving he DID have one.

  • @TexasRokker He CAN'T know it when he has had no contact with the guy for years before the incident, & was not the manager for the band during the time. Obviously, people DID 'care enough' or they wouldn't have bothered to do the VH1 special. Herbert certainly cares because he has been continuing to spread his poison 16 years after the last time he saw the guy. The albums keep selling & downloading because 2 new generations have discovered Perry's voice . & you are here!

  • @gluchnurse - Look, I haven't seen or spoken to Perry in almost 16 years, and even I know. Hell, everyone in the business knows. Not sure why they treat him with kid gloves, but it's all good. Like I said, no one gives a shit. I just plug in my comments to see people get all red-faced and riled up at daring to question his majesty, the leader of their delusional kingdom. Without Herbie, Perry would never have stopped cleaning turkey shit out of cages on a farm in California.

  • @TexasRokker Perry himself gives full credit to Herbert for giving him his big break with Journey, that & his mom for encouraging him to keep trying when all seemed lost, though his turkey farm days were few compared to his 10+ years before that of paying his dues in the trenches. But there again, Texas, if 'everyone in the business knows', in this day where 24/7 entertainment channels need new fodder, if you were correct someone would have long since proven you right-but they haven't!

  • @gluchnurse You still stick to the notion that anyone really gives a shit. No one does. Just you loons who cling to every rumor (some of which I've started just for the fuck of it). No one cares! What's so god damned hard to understand about that? No one on the planet barring his 35 fans really gives a shit about him.

  • "Yes I am coming Home---The lyrics..Almost like Bob Dylan-

  • @TexasRokker so where's your proof coming from that he DIDN'T have hip replacement surgery? I'd say in most people's books VH-1 has a lot more credibility than TexaRokker

  • @TexasRokker Didn't have enough space above to tell you that I actually am pleased that you think I'm funny-love comedy, & one of the things I like best about Perry is his humor-Schon himself said he 'is a really funny guy'. I have no reason to not 'buy' his issues with joint disease-as a nurse, & someone who has it myself, the sequence of events is reasonable. Since hip replacement surgery is a major deal, & doesn't last forever, any guy in his 40's would have surgery as a last resort.

  • @gluchnurse - The story itself was laughable. First, he hurt himself bicycling. Then rock climbing. Then hiking. So, which was it? Secondly, he's dancing and twirling in the WYLAW video like he's on crack. The video was shot after the alleged incident. Sorry, but if your hip is so bad it needs to be replaced, you physically are incapable of doing that. And if you tried, you'd really cause a lot of damage. Additionally, you'd have been told not to even try. Ask any doctor.

  • @TexasRokker Medically, you are wrong. Degenerative joint disease when it progresses causes severe pain, but that isn't the same as a fractured hip. With pain meds, icing, palliative measures the pain can wax & wane, but your ability to move without pain is the issue. Exercise is still necessary-that 'dancing' was mostly spinning-no impact-& his gait was off. That wouldn't do damage or be contradindicated. HIs sports didn't 'hurt' him. It's degenerative-it's just when he felt the first symptoms.

  • @gluchnurse - Nice try, nursey. The whole thing was fake then, and is still probably the best scam ever pulled off by a celebrity. I'll give Perry credit where credit is due. He pulled off a doozie there when it comes to his fan base. But everyone in the industry knows it's bullshit. Even Perry couldn't get the story straight himself, giving three versions of what happened. But, whatever. It doesn't matter. His problem isn't a hip, it's two vocal chords that long ago gave out on him.

  • @gluchnurse Were you Steve's nurse for his surgery ? Or have seen him without clothing to see the scars from the hip replacement. Why are you so sure that you are right unless you were personally involved in Steve's medical care. There is little privacy now days for anyone so if he had hip replacement someone involved with it would have surfaced. I think Steve was just too much of a Mommy's boy to deal with her death, the road, or the real world where every not everyone thinks he is perfect.

  • @HMACDONALD69 Actually, is far easier to disprove care than to verify it due to HIPPA laws which prohibit release of information about procedures which could cost someone their license. What I'm saying is that with all the controversy & doubt, some disgruntled former associate, ex-girlfriend, or just a tabloid hack looking to make a buck would have proven that he didn't by now or spilled the beans because there are things you can't fake-scars, etc. & that hasn't happened in all these years!

  • @HMACDONALD69 Also, his mother had been dead almost 10 years by then, and let's not forget that he sought them out to make Trial by Fire, so he obviously wanted to be there and be involved with Journey again. No one had to beg him, and he said in the Focus interview that they would most likely be making a summer tour, which he had to know would be a condition of making an album. What seems more likely is that with the album having charted at #3 he really thought they would wait for his surgery.

  • @gluchnurse Maybe Steve was just running out of money. And I am familiar with HIPPA laws but nurses tend to run their mouths regardless. In general (there are exceptions) women are catty and nautural gossips so that lends to it. What should be private often leaks out, especially when it comes to celebrities. And if some nurse was giving Steve a bed bath and putting a catheter in him she would probably film it for prosperity. LOL. Sorry, could not resist some sick medical humour.

  • @HMACDONALD69 Sounds like you've had some unfortunate interactions with women.

Wish you could meet some of the fine, dedicated, selfless people with whom I've had the pleasure to work-people who paid for rec supplies for veteran's patients & New Year's Eve parties for patients out of their own pockets. Agree that celebrities get the raw end of the deal with privacy. But, the days of the bed bath for a person in their 40's getting a routine orthopedic procedure went out with those germy caps!

  • Comment removed

  • @gluchnurse His relationship with his mother was a bit over the top, probably affecting all his relationships with women. That was one reason chicks were stepping out on him. I actually think there was a lot more to the girls cheating on him but I am not posting it on a public forum. Steve WAS gorgeous and probably half the women in the world wanted to sleep with him in the 80's.No woman would have him waiting home in bed while she was out screwing around, unless there were major bedroom issues.

  • @HMACDONALD69 Have no knowledge of his personal life, other than the fact that everyone knows someone who doesn't like them all that much. For those of us not in the public eye, we just avoid interactions with them, but celebrities are at risk for being used as a cash cow or source of public payback by others, and with 24/7 tabloid TV/internet/press it's only gotten worse. Correction: he is still an amazingly handsome man. I wish for him what I wish for everyone-an amazing person to share life.

  • I think that Rolie was a very good singer whose style became overshadowed by the expectations of later rock listeners. He was wonderful for the Woodstock generation, but the 70s/80s listeners wanted Robert Plant Jr., which was not Gregg's style. I appreciate both singing styles equally, though my range is more like G.R.'s. It might explain why I had a hard time getting the lead vocalist spot in my various college bands!

  • Agreed - the marriage of Rollie's voice with Perry's is what gives their songs that added depth. Similar to the sounds created by combining an oboe (or alto sax) with a tenor saxophone... Not sure of Rollie's voice register (probably low tenor or baritone), but Perry is a tenor altino (a male alto!)

  • @Tommasini9 Great analogy! Refreshing to see someone talking about the music versus trying to just tear Perry apart. That issue of musical 'marriages' is one of the reasons that the music seems to be lacking something to me in the later Journey incarnations from Augeri on. When you have people whose creative tension makes them reach heights higher than any one of them could have in songwriting & performing, sometimes that chemistry can't be replicated.

  • @gluchnurse - You've obviously never been in a band. "Creative tension" is a nice way of saying we hate the fuck out of each other but milk this for all the money it's worth. "Creative tension" is a bullshit term some manager came up with to try to make it sound like it's a good thing. It's not. Does "creative tension" at your 9-5 job make you better at it? Get real!

  • @TexasRokker No, never a rock band, but 7 years of chorus & 7 years of jazz band & symphonic band in school. I agree about the term 'creative tension' as far as milking the money, BUT, it also refers to the fact that the competitiveness, having people tell you when your work product is crap, & not catering to your every whim or tolerating bad behavior can make people produce a better product, or song, or production.

  • @gluchnurse - A little jazz thing in a school is comparing apples to oranges. You don't sleep, eat, breathe, and spend basically 24 hours a day for months on end with your jazz band classmates. The comparison is ludicrous. Take it from me, it's hell when you actually live it. Been there, done that. You don't have a clue what it's like. Your comments are so far removed from reality that I don't know whether to laugh or shake my head in utter disbelief. You don't have a clue what it's like.

  • @TexasRokker Didn't say I had been in an on the road situation, but I'm not musically stupid. I sincerely would love to hear your on the road anecdotes-I really am interested in other people's experiences. You made the allusion to a 9-5 job & creative tension. But I've worked around the clock where you can't go home & leave patients untended-Any work where you both depend on co-workers & yet can't get away from them brings out the good & bad in people-musicians, medical staff, soldiers, etc.

  • @gluchnurse Comparing any experience outside of a recording and touring band to a recording and touring band is something that can't be done. It's so far removed from the regular day to day grind. Trust me, "creative differences" was coined by some genius manager trying to explain why his band beat the fuck of each other between gigs.

  • @TexasRokker We could debate how many fans he has, etc. till the cows come home and still not agree on that. Disagree that a Hall of Fame writer is a loon, or that he would post something on his own website that wasn't true, but that doesn't mean that he'll be able to make the rest of the process come to fruition. But, tell me about your own experiences. I'm serious! Are you still in the business? What position? How long ago?

  • @gluchnurse If you contact me privately, I can tell you how touring is 22 hours of punishing boredom each day punctuated by 2 hours of playing that makes it all worth it. Yeah, there are some fun times, but it's grueling, hard, exhausting work. It's made out to look like fun, but it's brutal. Stop believing the BS that people have been putting on message boards and such stating they're working with Perry. "Working with Perry" means they had a phone call 3,000 miles apart to talk for 45 seconds!

  • When Rollie left the band, the dynamics of the band changed forever. Escape was a great album, but the music went in another direction and to me, the Rollie years with Perry in Journey were by far the best. Infinity, Evolution, Departure .... can't argue with that proof

  • yankee = Got IQ?

  • Rolies voice, average at best, no way would it have put journey on the map. The first time I heard Journey back in the 70s, it was Steves voice that caught my attention. I'll never forget it, I had to hear more then had to see who it was that had that incredible voice. I loved the songs but the voice keeps me comming back 32 years later.

  • Rollie's voice average? You are obviously not a musician. In fact, you're completely ignorant. His voice is on some of rock's most classic hits.

And while Rollie is still touring and singing, Perry is....well....where? Oh yeah, stringing his foolish fans along with talking about "maybe doing something" for 10 years now.

Perry's voice is shot to hell. Anyone that says differently is either lying, delusional, in denial, or just stupid.

  • @TexasRokker

Yeah, I know. I ADORE Steve Perry, think he had the finest voice I've ever heard, but all the "teasers" about releasing a new album are getting tired and making some of us diehard loyal fans just a tad "put out"!! (another way of saying "p o'd"!). He says he's got the songs, so let's hear 'em!

I don't know if his voice is "shot" or not---I'd really like to just hear it, and see.

  • You don't have to hear him sing to hear just how shot to hell his voice is. Listen to him talk. Sounds like AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson having an asthma attack! I've been telling people for years to stop believing the BS about a new album, yet the loons come out and swear EVERY YEAR that this is the year. It's over, people. It's been over for a long time. There is a reason he didn't finish his FTLOSM tour and never toured for TBF. And no, it's not the phony hip story. His hip was NEVER hurt.

  • @TexasRokker He's had BOTH hips replaced...

  • @TexasRokker Well I don't know myself that is true...I saw it on VH1...they're probably delusional...of course it's also on Wikipedia: "Journey members Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon met with Perry and presented an ultimatum that he either undergo hip replacement surgery so the tour could proceed upon his recovery or a replacement singer would be hired"...

  • Billboard: Perry was diagnosed with a degenerative bone condition and hip replacement would be required. Reluctant to rush into surgery Perry wished to postpone. In 1998, growing impatient and realizing the window of opportunity was closing, they issued a decree that either he undergo a hip surgery soon so the tour could proceed after a recovery or a replacement singer would be hired. Perry, still hesitant to undergo surgery, apparently angry at his band made the decision to part with Journey.

  • @TexasRokker Perry is the first to admit in interviews that he doesn't have the range of a 30 year old-no one his age does. But on TBF, his voice, a couple steps down, was still mesmerizing. He has done background vocals & collaborations during the 2000's with people like David Pack, & he still sounds much the same as he did on TBF. I agree with you that he might not be up to a 100+ gig per year touring schedule, but could sell out a concert venue to DVD,do a limited Vegas run or other options.

  • @gluchnurse Perry couldn't sell out my annual BBQ and picnic. Seriously! In his solo tour, he not not one single official "sell-out" show. Not one. And he was playing small venues (3,000 to 5,000 seats). Very few people care about him. It's a moot point anyway, as his voice is shot to hell. You can be delusional and believe it isn't, and delusional think he was wonderful on TBF, but these days it's beyond raspy and bad. AC/DC's Brian Johnson is jealous of Perry's rasp now.

  • @TexasRokker I don't think it is being loony that has people believing it over the last year, but more and more credible people in the industry saying they are working on a project with him-from Russ Miller, the drummer, to Randy Goodrum on his bio website (his Street Talk collaborator). But with single song downloads being king, & no team or label, isn't distribution/release the real sticker?

  • @gluchnurse With all due respect, these far-flung, half-baked, asinine, goofy rumours have been floating for 12 years now. And you loons STILL believe it. You really can fool some of the people all of the time! Not one single credible person can say Perry is doing anything for a solo release. Not one. Zero! To believe otherwise is simply foolish. We should call Perry's fans the "Foolish Hearts" for believing the bullshit year after year after year after year.....

  • Ever hear of a little song called 'Black Magic Woman' by Santana? Do a little research and see who the vocalist on that song is.

  • Neal played on Santana 3, Santana Live with Buddy Miles and Caravanserai.

  • Neal played on Santana 3, Santana live with Buddy Miles and Caravanserai.

  • Schon played on one album with Santana and was let go.You call that being a real member ? NO !! Carlos knew what a jerk he had hired on.Gifted or not. Steve Perry made JRNY !!!! Only shame was losing Rollie.

  • You know, when you're clueless, you're better off not posting an idiotic comment. Carlos did NOT let Neal go. Neal and Gregg LEFT SANTANA on their own to form Journey. In addition, Carlos' whole band basically jumped ship and left him. You have never met Neal, so you are completely clueless about whether he's a jerk or not. One thing is for sure, you're a clueless simpleton! And no, I don't need to meet you to know this. Your comment spoke for itself.

  • Absolutely! The moment that Carlos got tied to Sri Chinmoy and changed his name to "Devadip Carlos Santana", the rest of Santana had had it and bailed. Neal and Gregg had already seen the writing on the wall and got with Herbie (Herbert) and got things rockin & rollin!

  • @TexasRokker True-Gregg and Neal left Santana-being tired of the jazzy direction Carlos and Michael wanted to take...So one great band was formed ---and had not Carlos disbanded the Santana there would not had been a Journey.and this would have been a shame.Journey is --

  • @TexasRokker Absolutely fantastic response, it's always interesting how many illinformed people pose such lines of idiocy. A lot about Journey and Santana that many would love to know. Great music, great memories.

  • He actually played on two of Santana's albums.

    Santana III

    Caravanserai

  • they didnt go to shit after he joined the band u idiot

  • indeed. for a breif period, with Dunbar, they were boss. perry and rollie's vox harmonized beautifully... as on this cut. tks

  • This is good, original Journey. Neal Schon was at his best and Gregg Rolie has a voice that Steve wishes he had. Aynsly Dunbar is soooooooo much better than Steve Smith.

  • Hi whitesnake, I beg to differ! If steve had rolies voice they still would of gotten nowhere. It was steves voice, and talent, that put then on the map, radio, and arena's!!!

  • @cutlets29 Have to agree with cutlets. Journey did have Rollie's voice available from the beginning, and they weren't getting anywhere commercially. It wasn't just the voice, they didn't want to focus on songs and lyrics, but did long, long instrumental jams. They did at least 3 albums with Rollie as the lead & couldn't get radio play. And it wasn't just Steve's voice-his song writing ability transformed their albums when combined with Schon.

  • @cutlets29 I beg to differ what you differ!!! Steve Perry ruined the original journey sound. They had a great thing going, until he showed up and turned the music into sappy lovesong bullshit, The 1st three albums was the best music Journey ever wrote. I'll give Perry Infinity and thats it!!!

  • @bleedthefreak19 If what you write is true then tell me why Steve was asked to be their lead singer? Ok I'll help you with the answer to that question. Journey could not get anything played on the radio so their then manager Herbie Herbert told them he was making Steve Perry their new lead singer and from then Journey become famous and got their songs played on the radio and many of them became hits. All thanks to Herbie Herbert and Steve Perry

  • Dude, you can hear Steve singing backup starting about 5:41. Also, you hear that note Steve belts starting at 6:34?

    Come on!

  • this album has been a treasure of mine for years. it must be the best Journey album ever.. I was so thrilled to finally find it on YouTube. Greg Rollie is/was one of the best, foxiest singers of the time!

  • name of the song is : a look into the future. but it was made before S.P. joined the band.

  • I think it was performed after S.P. joined the band.

  • what is the name of this song?

  • Comment removed

  • This is from one of Journeys first albums without Steve Perry.. the album I believe was called Look into the Future. I will have to dig it out.

  • it was a great album, as were their first and third albums all of which were before he joined the band. their first three albums were some of the most definitive rock of all time, and completely underrated. steve perry was a great vocalist, but as soon as he joined the band they went to shit

  • Were you smoking pot when you wrote this?

  • as per the title.. I don't think Steve Perry was with Journey at the time.. that's why it sounds so good.. lol.. just joking!

  • this really takes me back.. I still have this album... nothing will ever be as good as this..

  • u go steve the old school sound like sam cook by ella p,

  • Listening at this video reminded me that I bought this album back in the 70's. Went and looked and I still have it....plays great!! The first Journey album.

  • sounds like a little journey mixed w/ alittle old santana..but cool.
