Thanks Rushaffiliated for posting this highly entertaining video. Parliament's metamorphosis from a late 50s doo-wop band, to psychedelized rock funk to tight boogie funk is one of the more radical transformations of a band's sound that I'm aware of. Incredible musicianship and performance.
No offense, but this is them "lip syncing"...because it's EXACTLY what you hear in the studio version of this song. Not a problem, as long as you know they aren't trying to pull a MilliVanilli on us. Am I wrong? Check your records...
and if you see a group of negros dressed as thugs wearin saggy jeans and braids, your about to get robbed or killed!! or....your ears will bleed to death listening to that god awful RAP CRAP! we all know the BLACKS have lost their way in music! name one AMERICAN ALL BLACK BAND today, that can even play a fuckin instrument?? and no!!! the ROOTS are average and could no way ever get down like FUNKADELIC! the sisters cant sing anymore and the brothers would rap all over the place! maybe Andre 3000?

Damn how come there's so many niggas on that stage doing absolutely nothing? If you ain't playing an instrument or a female with a big black ghetto booty bouncing that motherfucker all around and bumping into shit, then you have no reason to even be up there.
I love this song the lyrics are blunt and straight to the point every instrument is heard but are so perfectly synched boy i wonder if the people in the crowd know what kind of monster they witnessed waking when they saw that performance.
@Deadprez41 - it's a wizard outfit ( that is where the "kkkrakkers" got the concept from) i feel ill mentioning these pigs on this thread but yeah, wizardy...Long live Funkadelic!
Man, this is tripped out! I think the purple outfit is supposed to remind people of a wizard's outfit, and the Klan, but that's just my take on it. For all we know, the dude was high and just thought the costume was cool to wear! It's wild to see Bernie on keyboards here. If my P-Funk history is correct, he was a new addition to the gang at this point (fresh from music school!) That's George as the High Cheif, and Fuzzy with the gold outfit. Can anyone identify anyone else?
@tension1906 Yeah...Tiki Fullwood on the drums and Billy Bass Nelson on the bass with that co-blooded hat man.....and Eddie Hazel right there in the middle man...I didn't realize this was about the time Bernie jumped on. I know this was very early in the groups development but it was really the name recognition cause the group was already in place under Parliament. love this jam....its my ring tone right now .... :)
Its a shame that they didnt let the whole song go on!! and correct me if im wrong, but to me, Funkadelic´s first album is hardly funk, i can easily compare it to an amon duul or any other krautrock album. Great acid rock!!
i i wish black men would wear afros again and that men in general would stop being so damn homophjobic (or is it 'virtual')....either way we're losing our bodies and we need to regress technically in in order to progress from the souls........what is soul u ask?............. let funkadelic teach you.
Love the funky old footage. This offers one of the few good looks on film at the lineup from that era. I assume that's Tawl Ross playing rhythm -- e.g., on the right at 0:30?
This is great but where is the wahwah pedal cause wen u look at the guitarist he has no wahwah pedal it doesn't matter I'm just saying wat a great song
@grimgrimdeath666 First off, that guitarist has a name. Its Eddie Hazel. Remember it. He is one of the best guitarist on earth. Second off, its Eddie Hazel, he doesnt need a Wah Wah peddle.
@byakuganlord You're wrong here. On this album Funkadelic used some studio session musicians. The guitar player on this song (album) was Ray Monette (later of Rare Earth). Hazel was truly an awesome guitar player no doubt. But credit should be given where credit is due.
But yes, that is Hazel "pretending" to play the riff as this was obviously not a live performance but just recording from the album. so what you see is Hazel, but what you hear is Monette.
@relimes and what? some real music like what?.....Bobby Sherman? George Clinton still has a full tour schedule, still rocks and packs a full house, to a crowd full of old and young people from all walks of life. Not to mention turned 70 today,.........Where is Bobby Sherman??? STFU!
OMG Who that wearing the purple KKK outfit? Only Funkadelic would think of some sh*t like that. I wanna know how the hell they got away with doing some the stuff they did like this back in the late60's Early 70's. And on TV!!!!
@Nerudah HAHA Yeah, that's why they themselves "grand wizards". You gon tell me that a socially conscience band like Funkadelic didn't think beforehand that that outfit didn't look a little too much like a Klansman's?
I wish black people, in general, would be fun again. I mean, just look at them: this is what FREEDOM really looks like. Then listen.
