  • flying sofa??? omg!!! why is it RUSSIAN? i didn't like red sofas...

  • wow

  • Is the boy supposed to be Tip (Ozma)? if that's so, then who's the girl?

  • @ChipmunkRaccoon3 That's Dorothy. (Actually, they call her "Dolly" in this one.)

  • @jaredofmo "Dorelli," actually, combining the names Dorothy and Ellie, which is what Alexander Volkov named Dorothy in his "adaptations" of the Oz books.

  • Tip before his traumatic trasformation!

  • You've GOTTA download more of this!!!!!!!

  • I loved the way everyone was killed right at the end of the song (well, I hope they were !!!)

  • @GazzTheFunkadelic Didn't you hear what Glinda's servants were saying at the end? Of course they lived. Sheesh.

  • what ... the f@#%

  • Hmm. That was a novel experience, wasn't it?

  • @MagicEmperor "Return to Oz" reference! Betcha thought no-one would spot it, did you?

  • i can understand some of it :L:L

  • lmao

  • Can you upload a full film? I try to find it but no luck.

  • I know links where full video "Adventures in the Emerald City" downloaded... but it's in Russian only. =(

  • could you give me a link please,

  • @vladimirlensky Good! I don't like dubbed voices.

  • this was OZSOME

  • Nice line.

  • i'm blind, so i didn't see it, just because i can't read something, doesn't mean im not smart

  • what language is this!?

  • if you were smart enough to read the first few words in the description you'd know its russian

  • I got a dvd with English subtitles from the German Ebay. There's one left. If you look up Alisa V Strane Isumrudnyi Gorod, you'll find it.

  • Here are the lyrics from the song. Flying Sofa: It cant be real! Im flying in the sky! Im moving the furniture! And I used to bea beautiful and proud animal,.. I wandered the forests. And who am I now? Everyone: You are a Flying Sofa! Dolly: We are flying in the sky Faster than a plane. Scarecrow: Hurray to the freedom! Wobble Bug: Hurray to the progress! (?)Were not afraid of blizzards. Tinman: Of storms or hurricanes! Everyone: A Flying Sofa is the safest aircraft.

  • Thank you for the translation!

I don't know from the Russian script, but in the original book the sofa is called the Gump and that Thoroughly Educated and Highly Magnified insect is the Woggle-Bug.

The girl was of course Dorothy Gale in Baum's books, while in the Russian version by Volkov her name is Elli. For this movie, I gather they combined the names into "Dorelli."

  • Oh, and the boy was Tip (really Princess Ozma under an enchanment), while the Scarecrow's Russian name is Strasheela, and in Russia the Woodman is made of iron.

  • @philthethrill100 heh the timing of the captions timing made it seem like the first of the girls reading Glinda's book seemed to say that the gump was the safest way to fly which didn't make much sense in context.

  • @PetiteOzma You're right the subtitles are way off.

  • I ran out of room on the bottom so I'm continuing my message here. Also, when you fill out the order form, you'll notice that the countries are in Lithuanian. Don't know why. Anyway, for United States, pick Jungtines Valstijos. There is no space for the state, so you can put it in the city space.

  • You can find the DVD at melofanasdotlt. Just type in Приключения в Изумрудном городе, and then press Enter. You'll get 7 hits. Click the first one. Then click add to basket. Now you're all set. Note: the DVD costs 59.99lt (Lithuanian currency). If you want this shipped over to the US or any other country outside of Lithuania, then you'll be paying in euros. It costs 17.64 euros plus 11.47 for shipping, so the total is 29.11 euros or $42.88.

  • That's Strasheela! The Russian Scarecrow has always been depicted as very well-stuffed.

  • Hey, a question: do you know whose voice is singing at in the first line of the last stanza, right before the Tin/Iron Woodsman's line? Something close to "nah mistrash ni mi czeri"? It's presumably either Jack Pumpkinhead or the boy (Tip?), since the Sawhorse doesn't seem to be singing along.

  • I think it's Tip. You don't hear him sing at other time, and it sounds like his speaking voice.

  • By the axe of Ak! This is the purest uncut WIN AND LOVE ever. Why has this not been picked up and dubbed for our kids in the States?!

  • (Yay! You read "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus!)

I wonder the SAME THING!!! I guess the market for re-dubbed Russian movies isn't as big as the demand for Japanese anime...

  • Maybe we'll be lucky and it'll show up in the $5 DVD bin at Toys R Us... that seems to be where random dubbed movies go these days. Oh well. GRAZZA IUUNA GRAH!

  • @Gravidtron I played Ak in a stage production last year. :-)

  • This is the most awesome thing I've seen all day. And today I've seen a great many awesome things.

  • Wasn't this a live action film? Whats da deal with this animated feature?

  • There have been both live action and animated Oz based films all over the world. This one from Russia is one of several films they have.

  • There are three live action versions I know of: an incredibly cheap movie made in the early 70's, a brilliant stage version released to video in the late 80's, and just recently Shirley Temple's T.V. adaptation from 1961 (or so) came out on DVD. Also, many elements of "Marvelous Land of Oz" were incorporated into the feature film "Return to Oz" with Fairuza Balk.

  • stage version in the 80's? whats that one, i'm unfamiliar with it!

  • It was from 1981, not the late 80's (my oops); it was the Children's Theater Company of Seattle's "Marvelous Land," the most faithful adaptation to date. The acting was a trifle over the top even for stage, but the costumes and make-up were brilliant, the songs were memorable, and major props go to young actor Christopher Passi, who not only played Tip, but actually wore the flowing tresses, dainty tiara, and gosaamer gown of Princess Ozma in the last scene. Took guts, that! Check IMDb for more.

  • can you put this movie complete because i will like to watch it

  • Haha i remeber reading the book!!! Best book ever!!!

  • I'm sick.

  • WTF?!!!!!

  • i love this video! XD i wanna see the whole thing now

  • What a voice on the Iron Woodman!

  • Yikes! The first second of that intro almost sounded like "Conjunction Junction" from "Schoolhouse Rock!" In any case, I'm with all the others who say thay'd like to see the ull production-- and trust me, I don't mind watching something in a foreign language!

  • WTF!

  • at the end when those 3 girls are talking they say: Girl 1: Oh how awful. we have to run and tell glinda that they had an accident (smashed). Girl 2: why do you think like that? maybe they will be saved.

anything can happen. Girl 3: HAY be quiet you, lets watch some more (next).

  • Really? What does the song go like?

  • Can you translate the lyrics?

  • hahaha klasnei multik :)

  • This is great. I love to obtain a copy of this video. So what if it's in russian. If you know the story and add Dorothy to it you don't need to know the language to enjoy it.

  • You know what, when Dorothy (in videos they pronounce her name "Dor-elli," these were based on Baum's books, not Alexsander Volvok's) is singing, Tip is waving his hand in time with the music.

  • Scarecrow looks so fat! lol Is the girl Dorothy? Did they work her int othe story like the Anime?

  • Well, it's not really the Scarecrow. His name is really Strasheela, who is traditionally portrayed fat. Yes, that is Dorothy, or "Dorelli."

  • Her name in the Russian series is "Elli".

  • How did they wrok her into the story? In the anime she accidently returns with the silver shoes. Same here?

  • I think so -- I have this on VHS but haven't watched it recently. I'll check over the weekend.

  • From what it seems, no. She just suddenly appears right after they meet the Woggle-Bug.

  • Perhaps, but you have to understand Russian to really be sure.

  • What on earth? How bizzare!

  • What's this anime you refer to, b3njee? I know there's an animated version of this story that has Dorothy in it, but it was produced in Eastern Europe, or so I thought.

  • I think he's talking about Oz no Mahōtsukai. They used to show it on HBO when I was young.

  • I've seen it by now! A friend of mine gave me a fansubbed DVD of the first episode. Thing is, the subber was either unfamiliar with Japanese or (though it seems unbelievable) unfamiliar with Oz, because he had Dorothy call Aunt Em and Uncle Henry "Grandma" and "Grandpa."

  • Ojiisan and obaasan means grandma and grandpa. Maybe in the japanese version of the book, they're her grandparents.

  • True, but ojisan and obasan (notice the shorter vowels) mean uncle and aunt, and I'm pretty sure that's how she pronounced it. It's a tricky thing to listen for, but I've watched a lot of Japanese shows over the past 20 tp 30 years, and while I'm scarcely fluent, I can hear when someone's saying words I know.

  • "Twenty to thirty" that should have been.

  • That's odd. Aunt Em and Uncle Henry didn't look that old in the first one.

  • Aunts and uncles can be just about any age; Michael Landon had a daughter who is younger than her own niece. Nevertheless, in the books, Em and Henry were very old, or at least looked very old. Mind you, once they took up residence in Oz (in the book "The Emerald City of Oz") they began to rejuvenate a bit.

  • can you please upload the rest? sorry to be a pest, i just love oz

  • Can you please uploaad the scene in which they meet the Wogglebug, and maybe the last scene when Ozma is restored? I can't find the DVD on Amazon at all!

  • I bought a VHS from someone and recorded that to DVD. The DVD is only for sale in Russia, and my DVD player is just Region 1. You can get lots of foreign movies on VHS. You just need to know where to get them...

  • It's available as a DVD in the US as well.

  • From where??????????? Plase, marbpl1, share the wealth.

  • i am so curious about this show now.

  • do you have anymore?

who are the girls at the end? jinjur's army or Glinda's people?

  • They seem to be Glinda's servants. Yes, I do have more.

  • They look to me like they could be the Adepts from "Glinda of Oz," but they probably aren't.
