I got in trouble in school when I was 5 years old because I was singing this song. It was just stuck in my head from my parent's stereo, and they called my parents.
I could sit back and watch this whole film from start to finish all day, every day, its just so powerful and moving, I can relate almost all of it to my own life. This is a masterpiece.
"When the Tigers Broke Free" is a song written by Roger Waters about the the German Tiger tank assault at Anzio where his father, Eric Waters, was killed.
So wrong. It can be a bit artsy...but drugs, like most Floyd albums, have nothing to do with it. that first song is not on the album The Wall. The album is about isolation, which leads to quasi-insanity (a la Sid Barret)...its about de-humanization. This happens because his dad dies in WWII, bad education, an overbearing mother, an unfaithful wife....and then side 2 starts..."hey you" is a cry for help...just give it a chance...the music/lyrics/message is unreal when you get it.
Simple!!! the whole video just show one idea, the schools system back then was bad, too much abuse, they just want to turn kids into obedient robots, so they can use them, just like pigs for food.... :O example, kids walking like soldiers just to fall into a grinder =)
it represents the way teachers used to grind out all of a student's creativity and spirit until there was nothing left but a mindless drone, willing to conform to anything society throws at them. and its not nice to call someone an asshole if they dont get the actual meaning to something.
i love it how the powms the dum as shit teacher reades out to the calss was from the song money on the dark side of the moon. and the dum as shit teacher ses there no future in these at all. lol
This movie is a merging between Roger Waters' youth & eventual rock stardom and tiring of therof, and Syd Barrett's mental breakdown. What is interesting about Waters is that he was able to synthesize different elements of real life into a very effective narrative that touches on lonelieness and loss-- that of loved ones and loss of idealism and loss of sanity and how those types of things can eventually lead to self-absorption & eventually fascistic &controlling tendencies, as it does in Pink.
@scaldingwalter are you a psychiatric? 'cause i think i'm going worse than pink :) though that's an awesome movie it's so hard to live behind a wall, you can't break free, you can't see, you can't be yourself, you can't be happy.
When the Tigers Broke Free has to be one of my favourite Pink Floyd songs...It's hard to choose but I'd say it's in the top 5.
I saw this movie when it first came out in the cinema. I love the bit where the teacher says 'STAND STILL, LADDY!!!!" And, then the 'Big Mother' reference which is so central to the British male psyche. This film is so quintessentially British.
If you´d ever taken acid you would know what i mean, the randemness of everything is exactly like an acid trip, if that offends you, bad luck. I´m sure it´s not just me who knows this.
champolah is right the random vaccum scenes and merging of diffrent things is an acid trip jesus christ the movie was mad by pink floyd! your just another alcoholic that thinks he knows about everything in life, take a tab just once then decide
If you need drugs to see strange things then you don't know half the truth about the world you live in. There are stranger things in real life that no drug can offer. Drugs are a form of control and you don't even realize it.
drugs are poisons that make you think youre an awesomely godly intelligence for a few hours.
as far as experiences and drugs go your brain can produce stuff just as potent as whatever you can get in a dark alley from a pregnant transvestite called steve from harlem anyday
This movie is a master piece.
