I had heard that song from MOBy when living in England, what a surprise to see that thos guys are doing this sons. I am about booking a show for my mom that comes from France!
these guys were the first music I personally listened to as a child. I went into the music store -at age 7 mind you!- and picked out their Spirit of the Century album. I thought they were the best thing I'd ever heard, still love them. A 17-year-old that loves a couple old, blind, black, Christian-jazz singers....
Why have I never heard of these boys before?!! I am not a member of any church but if I were to choose to belong to one, it would be a church of the African American community. There is the real joy of God and the Universe, the joy of Christ's message. Joyful noise - music, answering the preacher and participating in the sermon. Yes Lord, if I were to find religion this is where I would find it!
Saw them when they came to aberdeen, and they were possibly the best band i've seen in my life. and i've seen alot of bands. they kept getting up and dancing :D
they went around the hall a couple of times, and the men helping them around couldn't get them back on the stage, they just went bananas with the crowd.
amazing, they really make you feel like they're enjoying themselves. i loved it.
I love Later with Jools Holland. Every time I watch I usually find one group I love. Last time it was Hot Club of Cowtown, and this time it's these guys.
@Futavacc That made me lol, scared my dog. Its even funnier to me cause a while back a friend and I were listening to Stevie Wonder and I said, I would love to see him and she said, I bet he'd love to see you too! TY for the chuckle!!
thing is, you don't usually get this quality of soul and spirit in the music without all the "crap that goes with religion." this kind of music is nurtured and born in the bosom of the church.
I've been listening to the boys for a long time now and would advise you to all rush out and order any albums of theirs you can get. New album (first in three years) out at the end of January. Some shops will import their other albums for you, have a few myself and they are addictive, blessed and have anointed voices. Bless them all
@Shearo To those living meaninglessly, life appears meaningless. Nothing produces nothing, we however inhabit and are manifestly something. So good luck with your ethos of Nothing.
That is fantastic. I love these guys that is why I posted this video. I have everything they have done. Please tell your uncle that The Blind Boys are dearly loved and their performances are magical. Thank you.
I remember the original broadcast of this show, and the blind boys also performed 'This May Be The Last Time' a capella, amazing performance, does anyone have this version to upload?
It's very common for traditional songs to have lots of variations. One thing that can make a song traditional is that it belongs to a cultural group as a whole. For this reason it is very hard to determine who the original author of a traditional song is, and it may be that very old traditional songs evolved from other songs, so don't really have a first author. This is true of folk culture in general, including folksongs, folktales, folk toys, etc.
nobody has mentioned that this is a Moby track...did they do the original backing vocals coz I thought it was R.L.Burnside or is that Oh Lordy...or do I know nothin?
its a traditional folk song thats been played so many ways over the years.. check out johnny cash's version on you tube.. ignore the celeb infested video and just enjoy cash's incredible voice
Original was Bill Landford and the Lanfordaires, from Dec. 15, 1949, one of six songs they did, their only session. Great group, the one sampled by Moby on his track.
Yeah, how dare the audience show its appreciation of such a wonderful performance. Here's a hint for you -- if you don't like "idiots" cheering, you probably shouldn't go see live performances.
I'm glad we agree about the idiots in the crowd. What a buzz kill. Here's a hint for you--I wouldn't let idiots keep me from going to see a live performance...it's not my fault they are disrespectful. If I had the power I would correct them and people like you from rude behavior while in the presence of greatness. Have a good day.
I have been a performer for 30 years. When I (and my fellow performers and just about every other performer I know) hear hoots and cheers from the crowd, we LIKE it. It means they're really into us and it creates a flow of energy between us and the performer. If that's not your thing, again, I urge you to stay home. I promise you, performers won't miss your truly negative attitude.
Congratulations, you've been a performer for 30yrs! When they cheered you was it right after you said you were getting off stage? Urge me to stay home? I didn't realize you set all the rules for attending live shows! That "noise" that comes from the crowd during a bands play time is rude...and unnecessary...you're there to watch the band make sounds, not everyone else...this really needs to change as it is simply outside interference. Good day!
i agree... why not jus listen to the c.d or get a dvd of them. one of the best parts of going to a gig is the crowd atmosphere. coupla years ago i saw snoop dog play at a festival.. it was one of the best gigs i've ever been to and i really don't like snoop dog's music - the magic was in the intensity between crowd and performers.
dude first of all he says "pick that" or "pluck that" Have you ever been to a real concert. I don't mean a rock show. Any real jazz concert people are always responding to solos. It is a form of encouragement. That is nothing new.
