  • If you notice, the right rear is coming off the ground: an LSD will not work if one wheel come off the ground! With the drivers side losing traction and the RR leaving the ground, no it won't work right. If the parking brake would have bee clicked a couple notches, then it may have came right over -- not a perfect technique, but it works about 75% of the time.

  • This is the classic LSD problem

  • Nice niner.

  • needs QUADRA DRIVE !!!"

  • dobar je

  • who the hell wants a toyota? for one we are american so buy that, instead of buying a piece of shit foreign car. plus no toyota can do what a jeep can do so shut your mouth you rice burning faggot. Its a JEEP thing.

  • that SUCK. buy a toyota /:D

  • wow.. what a tard

its not a limited slip that doesn't work, you just don't know how to drive

  • Quadradrive rules!

  • Ditch that 249 quadraJunk transfer case in the 5.9 and put the 242 select trac or 231. 2wd burnouts plus If you really want a 5.9 with great traction you could lock the front dana 30 axle for 250$, which in combo with the rear Dana 44a tracloc L.S works great. And for the record there is no Locker available for the rear d44a, . unless it has an open diff carrier which the 5.9 did not. having said that my 5.9ZJ is locked front and rear.

  • @mikesadass

Sorry but a 249 OD in the 96-98 is the strongest transfer case they made. a 242 would stretch the chain fast with a 5.9's torque

  • Holy crap! Was the wheel bottoming out in the fender well at 0:15? And did the 93-98 grand cherokees come with optional locking diffs?

  • This car is suck. The good limited-slip must be able to help you pass this obstacle.

Anyone can tell me why limited-slip in this car didn't work?

  • A little brake needs to be applyed or pull up on the E brake, if that doesn't help chances are it is an "open Diff"

  • @bdbrco2 not on a limited 5.9 or any limited for that matter. the brake method would have helped though

  • the clutches are worn out. its very common, especially in the ones in grand cherokees

  • @mpcollector

read the title.... it says its worn. The limited slip diffs wear out after a while and start acting like an open diff.

  • damn! That's a lot of articulation!

  • omfg ur a fucking idiot

  • I have been off roading in both my cherokee and my buddy's grand cherokee and my cherokee is better off road (because I dont care about my paint or dents) but its A LOT rougher ride. Next time I buy a Jeep it will be a Grand Cherokee because nothing beats off roading in nice leather seats

  • j gc is the best one

  • grand cherokees arent real jeeps anyway, theyre more like minivans with 4WD

  • excuse me?

GCs are real jeeps. the ones with the 5.2 V8 has 350 ft./lbs of torque. Thats enough power to get you through any mud bog or rock imaginable. I wheel a GC and I love it. It's comfortable and dominates on the trails. Think before you speak.

  • Yea Have to agree with aeagle on this,

    I have a 5.2 limited 98 GC. My ass its a minivan!

  • @aeagle326 ZJ for the win?? or are you running a wj?

  • @aeagle326

Actually the 5.2 had only 300lbs of torque not 350 lol.. The 4.0 had like 225 or 230 i cant remember exactly.. The 5.9 was around 350

  • @1ownjoo2 actualy the 5.9 has 345lbs !! amazing car !!! i have a 2000 Limited 4.7 but i almost bought a 5.9, just didn't buy because mpg is worse.. :S

  • @aeagle326

The 3.0 CRD diesel has more ft/lbs than the HEMI V8 topping out at 376 :)

  • what an idiot. dont comment about a jeep if you dont know anything about them

  • bet a minivan cant out run a grand cherokee with a 5.2 or 5.9. or go off road

  • i drive a 98 grand cherokee with quadra trac as well. Locking the center diff just makes the torque to the front and rear axles the same... that just means that one wheel from each axle will spin. So if you have two wheels in mud, one on each axles, those two will be spinning, not the ones you want to spin (the ones with less traction). BUT, the low range does multiply torque, that much is obvious, so that's cool. Also, I like quadra trac.... it's a good off-road system.

  • PwrBrk... will distribute the trque... whala gain trac...

  • pretty sure some lift would have prevented the back rear from tucking too far into the fender and if he would have had a locked rear then he woulda done damage for sure...

  • Funny how people who don't understand things just critisize. I have a 98 cherokee and have installed actual lockers (aussie) and only then will the wheels still turn even if only one has traction and one is in the air. LSD's won't work if one of the tires on that axle is off the ground. 92-93 cherokees had a pushbutton locker option. All others have a LSD or open diff. Also the select-trac, command-trac, etc. are just the transfer cases. They only lock the front and rear axle to eachother.

  • The 5.9 has Dana locking rear. Yours is smoked and is in dire need of replacement.

  • nope, its got a limited slip diff.

but u r right, his clutches are worn down and need replaced

  • It is a Dana 44 rear diff with traction lock...and it does lock. I have tested both of mine many times just to see. In 4-LO you can definitely see this. Even crawling at idle and turning hard on pavement, the inside back wheel will always chirp as it slides on the pavement at the same speed the outer wheel is turning. The only thing I have noticed is that in 4-Hi when turning left, the inside wheel will slip, but NOT turning right. It is the same on both of my Five Nines.

  • traklock, not locking diff ;)

but i do know what ur saying.

i have the same diff sitting in my garage with a set of new clutches that i wanna put it then swap in for my open carrier. i cant wait.

im going to put in extra clutches so its even extra tight

  • A traction lock doesn't lock!!! It's a limited slip with no positive engagement of any kind!!! The tire chirping you are seeing is caused by your dumb ass using 4x4 on pavement and turning! ANY 4x4 will do this because there is no center diff like on an AWD car.

  • it is awd. Trak-Loc is the posi-unit for jeeps and some chrysler vehicles

its full time 4WD with just 4LO being the other option. a winner in my choice.

  • correct it doesnt lock completely. actually the tcase that came in this jeep stock is awd and the center diff is only locked when you put it in lo. so you can run 4x4 on the pavement no problem if its in high. hell, you dont really have any choice.

  • no because it is when you take a turn that it putts a strain on the transfer case. you can run a locker in the rear on the street but most people don't because it is harder to turn and is more prone to fish tail

  • well then it doesnt make much sense to say its a 5.9 with a limited slip if the clutches are worn out...

  • well it started out as a limited slip....

Tbh limited slips are rarely any good after 5000 miles or less.Beyond that they're very nearly open

  • you are a fucking idiot!! any suspension bottomed out is not going to work!! DUH!! you DO NOT! deserve that 5.9 that's terrible of you. want to sell??

  • why would you think he will sell it to you when you just tried to insult him.

  • i like trhat Cherokee Chief in the background

  • huh

  • need select trac

  • right on man

  • that wasent in 4L. the jeep would have sunk down a little or jumped after putting it back in gear. prolly had that part time or 4H. oh yea and 1st gear helps

  • No, it was in 4-low, 1st gear, trust me! 4-lo just locks the center diff inside the transfer case, not the front and rear axle diffs. :) He got up it going a little faster, but sometimes you can't do that - like if there were 50 more ruts like these, all in a row.

  • @plasticboob the 5.9 didnt come with 4lo

  • @jeepgrand0 Actually the vehicle in this video isn't a Jeep 5.9 - it's a Land Cruiser with a 6.4l V8, and they only came with a 4L80E automatic transmission, 2wd only so yeah it doesn't have 4lo, duh. Can't you tell a Jeep from a Toyota?

  • @plasticboob what

  • @jeepgrand0 I just drove one (5.9) TODAY that had 4-low. We had some problems getting it to work.

  • @jeepgrand0 Wtf are you talking about lol Ive got a 5.9 I use 4Lo almost every day here in the winter

  • dont u see it hopping around??

  • my 94 laredo has that quadra trac, the limited slip puts you SOL if you get 1 front and 1 rear off the ground but just drop it in 4L. both diffs lock. i went on a hill similar to that. that full time dident do anything but after putting it in 4L it climbed right up & over.

  • Good engine bad 4x4

  • nope. worn out clutches in the lsd

  • yeah thats definitely worn out. ur left wheel isnt even spinning.

clutch rebuild kits are only $43.. im ordering one for the trac lock sitting on my garage floor that i found used

  • why you dont prees sligthy the brakes.......it will help.......is like a lockers

  • I find in my tj it helps if you put on the e-brake.

  • quadra-trac right?

  • Yes, but the newer style (1996+) that locks the center differential in low range (was in low range in this vid).
