  • I love them!!! I have always wanted to be that CS-01.

  • あんなグループがテレビの歌番組に出るなんて、いい時代だったんですね。

    今は売れてるのしか出してくれないじゃん。貴重な映像ですね。

  • i'd love to live in a world where this is the most popular band in the world

  • 当時フュージョンとかってあまり聴かなかったけど

    今こうして観ると、結構おもしろいですね。

    メロディとか、ちょっとシャカタクみたい。

  • What's this concert name?I want to check other video in this concert^ ^

  • @arurakufuyuki the name of this TV program is "Let's Go Young"(Japanese national broadcast) NHK made this program, mainly for the fans for teenagers' pop idols. It is very rare that such fantastic jazz/synthesized group performed in this program in the early 80's.

  • @doubtbeat What is the program "Let's Go Young" original language(Japanese)?

  • @arurakufuyuki "レッツ・ゴー・ヤング" ,this program's original Japanese language.

  • Breathbox girl - Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

    Piano lady - mom?

  • is the piano harder to play than guitar?

  • Lo ameeee !!!

  • I love the girl with the breath controller. There's something about the 80s Japanese look on display here I really love - puffy shoulders, high waisted trousers and black high heels. Oh, and not forgetting the synth slung over her shoulder as she plays an awesome melody over some very fine jazz-funk fusion!

Plus she's the best looking out the trio :D

  • 80's japanese girls look sexy.

  • fucking japan, how they so awesome?

  • バブルで調子こいてた音楽大のひとたちでした

  • This is like a jazzy version of Popcorn. I am looking for a breath controller like that for my PC music experiement.

  • one of the top keyboards is a DX7 white customized. Nice :)

  • @DX5

  • @SamDelil 00:54 the one at the top. Check the shape, warning text, audio outputs..etc. Also, look the side panels.

  • @DX5

    indeed,

    and I recognize tones also!

  • @DX5 Good eye! I'd love to find a beat-up DX7 and paint it red or white. But I'd probably feel guilty about doing it.

  • Capitaine Flam

  • Finding any info about these guys on the internet turned out to be surprisingly hard. I just wanted to listen to a few of their albums, but there 's a ton of bands named Cosmos. Finally found them, though. If you're having trouble as well, just look up Keiko Matsui on wikipedia. She is one of the band members.

Maybe I just suck at googling -_-'

  • @Elmokorvo

Same here, I looked for about a year on-and-off for info on these guys. I finally contacted the user who uploaded this and he actually led me to a site were I could DL most of their albums, or at least the one with this song. I saw this video 3-4 years ago and it barely had any views, now its 150k+. Also, a lot of other Cosmos songs are on YT now too.

TL;DR - You all are posers, I am the original underground 80's synth-jazz-funk fan.

  • What was that breath controlled synthesizer called?

  • @HyperFoxIII

The synth is "Yamaha CS-01". The breath controller with which it is used is the "Yamaha BC-1 Breath Controller".

  • The future!

  • Great musicians!! Thank you

  • sounds like outrun, the old arcade racer :)

  • this is really good music, i like this! japan for the win

  • whats wrong with crappy video.

  • Ms. Keiko Matsui, one of the three memembers of the band, is now teaching at a college in Japan. She has been in USA for some years and has been awarded for her excellence by a US smooth jazz committee in 2000 and 2001. In Japan in 80s, so many TV and radio programs put songs of smooth jazz bands, such as, Cosmos, Casiopea (Japanese), Fruitcake (Dutch), Mezzoforte (Icelandic), and Shakatak (UK), on air.

  • @seaboatsk While a number of those bands did cross over into Smooth Jazz at times, it's important to note that they were mainly Jazz Fusion - which was far more popular than Smooth Jazz in Japan throughout the '80s. Especially Casiopea.

  • Sounds like the soundtrack to the game Bayonetta!

  • A re-painted DX7 in the center spot! Me likes it!

  • I came

  • Do you know that one of this beautiful girls is a legendary Keiko Matsui? =)

It`s her first professional music project.

Heh... Last night she playing a concert in my city ^^ Unforgettable!! I have her signature and photos =)

  • I Just had a Flashback of my entire childhood an every game i played. Side Note : Thank You Japan a Nation that not only has wemon (And Beautiful wemon at that) that are into Video Games, Anime, Manga/ Comic Books/ Graphic Novels but that created them. Here's to Japan, If not the Greatest, then definitely top 3 nations in the World.

  • Sounds like a location song somewhere in Pokemon DX and kinda sounds like megaman in some parts

  • LET'S GO YOUNG !

  • Skills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • an enjoyable performance by fine artists.

  • hm, i cant spot the bass-player? The Drummer is visible though for some seconds. hehe

  • I bet those instruments were made by KRAFT, that music was so cheesy.

Two of them are pretty cute, though.

  • best band ever!!!

  • now they just need to play in bikinis!

  • new asia band :

watch this : BreadnButter - stay away (Official Music Video)

  • now i know where that elevator music comes from!

  • It's synth jazz.

  • Well, someone endorses Yamaha!

  • This is pretty good. I only notice that the flow of the piece feels 'condensed' because it moves from one section to the next quite fast, hence the slightly "elevator music" feel. Perhaps if the separate sections were given more time to develop, it would begin to feel less like an "accompaniment". After all, there is only -one- solo lasting longer than 8 bars! In any case, I find the overall feeling groovy in an interestingly clean and classy manner. It's evident in the way they dress too.

  • great band. and great cos i can see Mi CHica Tien Un Lio COn Satan here beside.

  • A good tune matters mostly, but I think it's pretty sad that most Western bands can't step outside the typical cliche that over relies on singing, and instead use instruments with more variety like this. "Oh but there's got to be words, otherwise it don't mean anything" (sigh).

Don't get me wrong, a skillful electric guitar player with the right backing can sound great, but a synth like in this vid is so refreshing and tighter. Good for Cosmos, and groups such as Yellow Magic Orchestra.

  • あぁーっ!今やアメリカのスムースジャズ界の大物、松居慶子さん!

    若い頃こーゆー活動なさってたんですね。知りませんでした。

  • 良い!( ・∀・)

  • what song is this? I fucking love cosmos but this is the only song I seem to be able to find.

  • Anyone knows where i can find any albums of this band? I used to have one called "Tears" but i lost it.

  • @Nicg

Two different bands... This is Cosmos the japanese jazz fusion group. The band you're thinking of is Cosmos the Japanese avant-garde/experimental group. Incidentally, the album "Tears" is available for purchas on allmusic.com

  • amazing!

  • crazy japs

  • This is the most fuckingestly awesome band I've ever heard. Love the girl on the melodion.

  • this is god's hold music

  • Nice solo with the CS01 and a BC1 breath controller. I tried to use one of them with my DX100 and ended up drowning in my own drool. Thankfully that was back in the 80's and the carpet has dried up since then.

  • @oxygene65 LOL! A really grubby one came with my CS01. I just threw it away.

  • i think i just puked in my mouth

  • This sounds like something from Lupin III

    5 Stars!

  • @thedahmerkid Too bad drugs are illegal in Japan, 5 years in prison for possession, 7 for distribution...

  • @thedahmerkid i need a book help me out lol but one would work ;)

  • OMG.

    this sounds like that song

in the Colosseum in Pokemon Collosseum

  • Did these ladies make every piece of video game menu music in the 90s?

  • @MisterScientist

It's a common Western misconception to ignore the broader musical context that Japanese video game music is rooted in.

  • @MisterScientist ahahah yeah this song is sound like the menu of granturismo 1

  • @MisterScientist sonic especially

There is a lot of nice keyboards!!.

  • awsome

  • best futa ever!

  • Marvel vs Capcom 2!

  • What a wake up call for me ._. 6/5

  • now i wana have sex!

  • its got a great 70's rnb feel to it, very tight!

  • Actually I am a studio engineer and if we fix anything it might be a few miss-timed kicks with pro tools. Synth can produce some of the most expressive music because you are able to produce different sounds by making your own patches and modifying how a note reacts by how much attack you put on each note. We aren't comparing this to rock anyways because this is not a rock song. Also there is no sequencing being done. They are playing every note and it proves you even thought it sounded robotic.

  • I ran out of room, but to help you out listen to their solos. Being able to lay back is a big deal in jazz and it almost sounds as if the song is fixing to rush during their riffs. There was not any kind of accented notes. If it was fast then the phrase was legato and when it was slow it was choppy. Listen to Chick Corea play this stuff and you will know what I mean.

  • Really good musicians totally solid. I'd book them, either for a cruise ship band or computer game music.

  • This does not do it for me.

  • What is this about? I'll try my best on some suggestions:

Easy-listening (simple structure doesn't appear to be an accident), smooth jazz, outerspace LSD groove trip (you know, shooting stars, super novas banging with lights flying all over the place, hence the band name COSMOS), setting a mood, dancing lightly, synths emphasize '"futuristic and outer space feel" (it wouldn't feel the same with acoustic instruments only!), simple melody form (a bit corny if taken away from its original context)

  • How should I say? I've always took it as... erm... "galaxy-shooting-stars-type-romanticism-LSD-trip" kind of thing? The band Casiopea takes inspiration from the same source but executes it differently. COSMOS just does it lighthearted.

But if I take it as something trying to do what it obviously isn't, then it has a slightly cheesy quality to it. I don't like it that way, of course, so I take it the way I think it should: the way that feels most fitting.

  • A 16 bit version of an elevator song. It's awesome !!

  • Sort a cheezy................

    Bleh

  • sonic 2 music...

  • this band is so cool !

Where can i find more info of them ?

  • Suteki!! What a beautiful music! So soft e-piano, synleads, crystal vintage drumms ...mmm sweet! Doumo arigatou for this video!

P.S. Before this I knew only Yellow Magic Orchestra) Thank you again =)
