Do you need to pass a medical (i.e Class 2 medical) to fly one of these? Or is it just a general fitness medical (i.e not gonna have a heart attack while flying type of medical)
for -really- light trikes, i.e. one-seat section 103, you do not need anything .. just buy it and fly it .. (of course you'd better learn how first)
to carry a passenger, i.e. for a two-seat trike, you need a sport-pilot license .. which you can get from a certified instructor .. you need to pass a few tests, but there is no medical.
In the UK you require an NPPL (microlights) to fly any microlight (trikes & fixed wing). There is a medical required for this license, which is roughly equivalent to a DVLA Group 2 medical without the visual acuity requirement. It's just a Drs signature that is required, no examination so most people will pass. License requirements are min 25hrs instruction of which 10 hrs must be solo and 2 solo cross country flights with outlanding of 40nm or more. You must also pass 5 exams and a skills test.
Thanks for the info. I was granted a class 2 medical certificate by the IAA, but after spending almost €30k on helicopter training, and after passing all my exams, they dishonoured the medical and said they didn't have time to review my file at the time. It was only when I sent off my paperwork to the CAA to get my license, did they say my medical history of Crohn's disease was a problem. Will my flight hours count any towards microlighting?
@cucaratsa76 .. That's right, i should have specified .. what i wrote is true for the USA. There is a regulation (namely FAR Part 103) that allows certain light weight single seat trikes to be flown without any licence or medical or basically anything - basically, they are not regulated : ) you buy and you fly (needless to say that proper instruction is implied).
For larger trikes (namely light sport experimental trikes) you need a sports pilots licence (just like the one you need to fly a sport plane) but STILL you don't need a medical. For even larger or faster planes with more seats etc. you need a privet pilot's licence - and for that you DO need a licence. Στήν Ελλάδα δυστυχώς δεν ξέρω πως είναι τα πράγματα αλλά είναι καλό ότι αυτά υπάρχουν ακόμα, all other things considered. : )
Great video thanks for sharing

medical is needed for a private-pilot license ..
hope this helps,

is that American regulations though? I don't think we're allowed to buy and fly in Europe.
