I love this show and will forever love this show this is one of my favorite battles of airwolf next to HX1,the deadly circle and Falling Angel.I loved how String just kept the trash talking going threw out this whole entire fight.The great line threw out this whole battle is the end "You late for the rodeo jenkins land that thing now while I'm still in the mood to let you". The greatest line in my view lol.
I watched this when I was 8.I had tears of relief in my eyes when Hawke shot the other helicopter down.I couldn't wait to get back to school the next day to discuss this episode with my friends, ran all the way from the school gate to the class....Funny thing is I never noticed then that the laser should never have made that big an explosion and when Airwolf II explodes you can see the landing skids in the fireball... Ahh the age of innocence.
I know right. Right when the songs ends you know the dog fight is going to be over. And I question myself how Hawke got his flight suit on?? I remember when I was a kid I had my toy helicopters and cars with me every time I watch Air Wolf or Knight Rider. Best series then when I was a kid and now I laugh about it. Great memories. :)
Ok before you send a lynch mob after me know this: I love the series and airwolf is one of the best things to hit TV. but why does hawk spend the whole dogfight letting himself get shot at before pulling a high G yo yo and ending the thing? and why dosn't the guy flying redwolf take evasive action? surely 2 aces wouldn't behave like such rookies?
@f1amer Same here, but other thought: they're in helicopters, right? Why not rotate and strafe around to try shooting at each other like normal choppers?

@dragonfirewarrior I guess they couldn't get an actual flight stick for the actors to use. I noticed in the Salvage episode some of the shots used in the "Scorpion" cockpit were that of Hauser/Jenkins instead of the guy in the episode.
you know, the tv series of the 80's were brilliant. knight rider, airwolf, a team, street hawk, battlestar galactica. the originals. nothing now is remotely better.
This was a Cool Show in the 80s but alas It is cheaply made if you pause this clip at 3:55 you will see it isn't the same copter Just like the other episodes.
@jamestanzra Well, they aren't going to blow up a Bell 222 are they now, its a TV show not a movie. If they started blowing up a different helicopter each episode then the cost would be through the roof!
And Redwolf was hired from another company anyway, so I doubt they would blow it up...
It's sad the original helicopter they used for the show crashed much later after it was sold and being used as an air ambulance. Killed three people. They made a mock up of another bell 222a but it never flew and got put in a museum.
@Insaniac1985 - aye, the 80s were good as long as they stay there. Was dissapointed when watching knight rider on DVD in HQ only to realise with horror that there was a guy dressed as a seat driving all along when KITT did the auto cruise thing. Now that really hurt because prior to that, I thought it was radio controlled ... and the car kept changing ... and the steering wheel !
The show owed its success to 4 things: Jan Michael Vincent (few men looked better in the Airwolf helmet), Don Bellisario's writing, Ernest Borgnine's charm, and the Airwolf chopper itself.
Vincent's probably not going to act again (lost his voice), the Airwolf chopper is gone, and Borgnine could barely keep up physically during the original show. I don't know if Hollywood can come up with a revisit that does these guys justice.
The problem with this episode is that String and ArchAngel have a very awkward fight with some bad guys (just before the scene in this video). String does pathetic kicks and looks completely unco, almost falling on his ass.
A couple of swift punches would of been fine for the fight scene, instead of trying to do kicks and just looking ridiculous.
Jan's got a cool persona but he's not Chuck Norris, didn't help that he was a severe alcoholic either.
That was probably the most frustrating thing for Jenkins -- Hawke not only gave him a SERIOUS flying lesson, he trash talked him the whole time he was doing it!!
This was one of my FAVORITE Airwolf episodes - but there was one thing that always bugged me about Airwolf -
The bad guys (with VERY FEW exceptions) would fire multiple missiles at Airwolf, and always miss - String would (whether he dropped that targeting visor of his or not) usually hit with the FIRST and ONLY missile he fired!!!
I was just watching the season 4 Fight of Airwolf vs. Redwolf and it piss me off to see how they treated Airwolf.Once a great show then a real suck ass show. From story lines to Special Effects.For all I care and I think all the Airwolf fans would agree that season 4 never happened.
@Optimus313 i agree i wish they has spent more time with the STing St. John reunion and also merged the two a bit even if they had to recast Sting i don't know give him a facial burn and a week later he has a new face because the original actor for Sting either died or wasn't coming back. Season 4 sucked
@isisdragoness1981 I agree with you are just kept the original cast and got back the original creator and script writer it would have been better but it wasn't. They took everything away from the Lady and the show wasn't about her I mean that's the main plot of the show.
Two multi million dollar attack helicopters duke it out in the hills near San Bernadion and the only authorities to show up are Briggs and Santini? Unrealism on an Airwolf scale!
But I kid Airwolf. I was a huge fan of the show when it was on.
@sparrowlt, you need to remember though that Airwolf got a glancing hit with a few bullets and a laser. Which despite the explosions on the ground did exactly what a real laser would do to a helicopter. Not a damn thing.
The other helicopter got hit with a missle. That's a little harder to shake off.
@ImperialAtlantis Well , lasers can be used as a weapon, today there are experimental millitary lasers that destroy missiles.. but oddly a laser to be effective as a weapon has to be on a wave lenght that makes it invisible to human eye.. not red (wich would be the weakest "visible" laser, where purple would be the strongest) , and it would of course go at light speed so no star-wars like laser beams (tought technically star wars weapons are not lasers, but laser powered blasters)

@Suprahampton well your prolly right on the last part however it was moffet that designed airwolfs mach + ability.. while the kid in redwolf supposedly designed the weapons system.. so it goes with the story anyway that he wouldnt understand that part of airwolfs complexity... he could barely use the weapons system he designed on redwolf... lol let alone be expected to break out the full ability of airwolfs aerodynamics.. the only complete set of airwolf schematics are on her onboard computer

If they did make a movie, I hope they picked Josh Hartnett to play Stringfellow Hawke. I think he would be a great choice to play the character (Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down made me think JH to play Hawke) I also think there is some resemblance in looks between Hartnett and JMV.
i dont think thay should remake airwolf, i am a huge huge airwolf fan and airwolf nut. but to remake it would be a big mistake and a big let down, unles the origanal cast came bact to do it. airwolf is fantastic but should be left alone.

That's the one thing that always annoyed me about Airwolf - enemy pilots could shoot up everything in site, and rarely, if ever, hit Airwolf. Hawke would get into firing position, and even if he didn't drop the visor, fire ONE missile, and take out the target!
i have to say........ doesn't this scene give everybody the tingles. i loved the eighties. why don't you during the summer holidays. wacaday, airwolf on at 1pm on itv. pole position on bbc1. the list is endless. ashes to ashes on bbc1 takes us back there. brilliant.
I love this Episode I keep watching it on here and the dvd and what always makes me smile was one String Trashing talking threw the whole fight I mean if I was missing everything and a dude in another helicopter was trashing talking I'll be pissed. Yeah, I would be getting pissed too, if everything I fired at Hawke either got decoyed or missed entirely!! See an earlier post I made - it always blew me away that the people shooting AT Hawke would miss (most of the time), but Hawke NEVER seemed to miss, especially when he dropped that visor (which must have had some type of targeting system). I agree - this was THE BEST Airwolf dogfight!! I don't even want to WRITE about the aberration that was Season
You know, when you think about it, Harlen's "Lone Ranger" comment was pretty good for Hawke - I mean, the man was a hermit (except for Dom in Seasons 1 & 2...he seemed to lighten up in Season 3, even though he still lived alone up in the cabin.) I don't know about "Tonto" for Dom, though. :)

You're right about that - and I always thought Caitlin & String would end up as a couple, but I knew about String's paranoia that "anyone he loves, or MIGHT LOVE, will DIE." (From Archangel to Gabrielle in the series premiere). And, Cait loved Hawke, too - like in "Horn of Plenty" when Dom wouldn't let her go with him, and she said, "I care about him too, Dom. Probably MORE THAN YOU KNOW."

Absolutely!! Funny thing - I had a classmate when I was in high school (back in the late '80s, about the time that Airwolf was running) who looked an awful lot like Jean Bruce Scott - I used to call her "Caitlin" or "Cait" just to tease her - she asked me about it last summer at our 20-year class reunion (God, that makes me feel old!!) But, she (my classmate) STILL looks like Jean Bruce Scott!!
Yeah, that sound always let everybody know that "The Lady" was coming!! Like I said, though, I don't even want to talk (or write) about the aberration that was Season 4, although it DID bring St. John back. That was the ONLY good thing about that season!!
@knightryderrwn You know I would have love to see Redwolf almost look like airwolf. For example have Turbo Thrusters everything else was good but Turbos would have been great addition.
Yeah, I wondered about that myself - if you look real carefully at 2:24 (Just after Harlen says "Try THIS, Chicken Hawke!!") you see the button marked "Turbo" on Redwolf's control stick, but Harlen never used them. I also was disappointed that Redwolf didn't have the triple-barreled ADF pod, or the external chain guns, like Airwolf did.
@knightryderrwn I know what you mean I wasn't okay with the 1 barreled ADF POD but I got used to it. But I would have liked to see in the final battle as soon as String took off Halen pushed the button and out popped the guns and the adf pod. When it comes to a fight like this Airwolf Vs. Airwolf should have had the music from the first season That great Orchestra music.Soon as String took off the music from the first season hit would have been great.
I noticed that!! Harlen just punched the missile buttons on his main control panel (PS - WHY did they show Maverick missiles, which are SPECIFICALLY air-to-ground weapons, used against Airwolf IN THE AIR?? There should have been a button for a Sidewinder, or something. Heck, in the Season 2 episode, "Firestorm," Hawke calls for a Falcon (which was an air-to-air missile circa the mid 1960's) to intercept the nuclear missile). I'm also a military weapons junkie!! (continuing my previous thought) - As I said, I'm a military weapons junkie, specifically military aircraft & missiles, so I found a LOAD of technical errors in every season of Airwolf. Look at the premiere, when Marella says, "The latter offers him 14 firepower options, from 30-millimeter cannons to nuclear-tipped Shrike missiles." In the REAL world, the Shrike is specifically designed as an anti-radar missile, with a conventional warhead. There were lots of errors like that!

But I noticed little things too but hell it's Airwolf so I just played it off. Hell if they did create an Airwolf I'll be in the military trying to fly her. I agree about playing off the little things - like Bill Shatner said about "Star Trek" - "For crying out loud, it's just a TV SHOW!!" Same with Airwolf. I got hooked on military aircraft and missiles when I found out I CAN'T join the military (I've tried 3 times and they won't take me - long list of medical problems), and you're right about "The Lady" - after flying her, any other helicopter would be a letdown!!
@knightryderrwn Yea I know what you mean like one time after I watched airwolf one saturday me and my family went to the airshow and I wasn't amazed by the helicopters there.In fact I remember thinking these helicopters would be shot down in an instant By the lady. Every year after that I hoped she would be there on display and I'll get to touch her or sit in her. What do you think about Airwolf Vs. Blue Thunder? I like them both and wouldn't like to see the fight but work together.
I don't know about Airwolf / Blue Thunder - they were somewhat similar in capabilities, but I still think our Lady would come out on top in a direct dogfight. But, I would rather see them working together, too!! And, I know what you mean about current military helicopters compared to the Lady - they just don't have that sleekness about them that she does!! :)

My greatest memory of Airwolf is the they push the ignition and the music starts and in the sun light She comes rising up then Sting,Dom or Catlin push that turbo button and take off I love that. I used to do that with my airwolf toys. Lol making the howling sound with my mouth lol

Season One had the best music, yeah!! I liked Dom's line in "Daddy's Gone a Huntin' - "How come Archangel's 'good luck' always sounds like 'GOODBYE??' Or in 'Fight Like a Dove' from Season 1 (after they took Airwolf to 86,000 feet and then nearly crashed her) -

@knightryderrwn Yes you can say that again that's something that Season 4 didn't have at all. it was all to boring.Season 1,2 and 3 had a meaning and a good story. "Old goat herder huh String will put you in the back side of hell" then that bad ass music from season start playing. I mean it's so many funny and memorable lines that string and dom had it's too many to count.

I always thought it was funny when Cait would throw the turbo switch (back in the EDCC) and go flying back into the seat. Of course, Dom could just reach forward and throw it - he was a little bigger than Cait. But, yeah, those sounds were great - I never had any Airwolf toys - best I can do is to fly an Airwolf recreation in Flight Simulator X (PC game).

The problem with this episode is that String and ArchAngel have a very awkward fight with some bad guys (just before the scene in this video). String does pathetic kicks and looks completely unco, almost falling on his ass.
A couple of swift punches would of been fine for the fight scene, instead of trying to do kicks and just looking ridiculous.
Jan's got a cool persona but he's not Chuck Norris, didn't help that he was a severe alcoholic either.

This was one of my FAVORITE Airwolf episodes - but there was one thing that always bugged me about Airwolf -
The bad guys (with VERY FEW exceptions) would fire multiple missiles at Airwolf, and always miss - String would (whether he dropped that targeting visor of his or not) usually hit with the FIRST and ONLY missile he fired!!!

I was just watching the season 4 Fight of Airwolf vs. Redwolf and it piss me off to see how they treated Airwolf.Once a great show then a real suck ass show. From story lines to Special Effects.For all I care and I think all the Airwolf fans would agree that season 4 never happened.

@sparrowlt, you need to remember though that Airwolf got a glancing hit with a few bullets and a laser. Which despite the explosions on the ground did exactly what a real laser would do to a helicopter. Not a damn thing.
The other helicopter got hit with a missle. That's a little harder to shake off.

@ImperialAtlantis Well , lasers can be used as a weapon, today there are experimental millitary lasers that destroy missiles.. but oddly a laser to be effective as a weapon has to be on a wave lenght that makes it invisible to human eye.. not red (wich would be the weakest "visible" laser, where purple would be the strongest) , and it would of course go at light speed so no star-wars like laser beams (tought technically star wars weapons are not lasers, but laser powered blasters)

@Suprahampton well your prolly right on the last part however it was moffet that designed airwolfs mach + ability.. while the kid in redwolf supposedly designed the weapons system.. so it goes with the story anyway that he wouldnt understand that part of airwolfs complexity... he could barely use the weapons system he designed on redwolf... lol let alone be expected to break out the full ability of airwolfs aerodynamics.. the only complete set of airwolf schematics are on her onboard computer

That's the one thing that always annoyed me about Airwolf - enemy pilots could shoot up everything in site, and rarely, if ever, hit Airwolf. Hawke would get into firing position, and even if he didn't drop the visor, fire ONE missile, and take out the target!

I love this Episode I keep watching it on here and the dvd and what always makes me smile was one String Trashing talking threw the whole fight I mean if I was missing everything and a dude in another helicopter was trashing talking I'll be pissed. But the last line always gets me "You late for the rodeo land that thing now while I'm still in the mood to let you" The best line lol

Yeah, I would be getting pissed too, if everything I fired at Hawke either got decoyed or missed entirely!! See an earlier post I made - it always blew me away that the people shooting AT Hawke would miss (most of the time), but Hawke NEVER seemed to miss, especially when he dropped that visor (which must have had some type of targeting system). I agree - this was THE BEST Airwolf dogfight!! I don't even want to WRITE about the aberration that was Season

You know, when you think about it, Harlen's "Lone Ranger" comment was pretty good for Hawke - I mean, the man was a hermit (except for Dom in Seasons 1 & 2...he seemed to lighten up in Season 3, even though he still lived alone up in the cabin.) I don't know about "Tonto" for Dom, though. :)

You're right about that - and I always thought Caitlin & String would end up as a couple, but I knew about String's paranoia that "anyone he loves, or MIGHT LOVE, will DIE." (From Archangel to Gabrielle in the series premiere). And, Cait loved Hawke, too - like in "Horn of Plenty" when Dom wouldn't let her go with him, and she said, "I care about him too, Dom. Probably MORE THAN YOU KNOW."

Absolutely!! Funny thing - I had a classmate when I was in high school (back in the late '80s, about the time that Airwolf was running) who looked an awful lot like Jean Bruce Scott - I used to call her "Caitlin" or "Cait" just to tease her - she asked me about it last summer at our 20-year class reunion (God, that makes me feel old!!) But, she (my classmate) STILL looks like Jean Bruce Scott!!

Yeah, I wondered about that myself - if you look real carefully at 2:24 (Just after Harlen says "Try THIS, Chicken Hawke!!") you see the button marked "Turbo" on Redwolf's control stick, but Harlen never used them. I also was disappointed that Redwolf didn't have the triple-barreled ADF pod, or the external chain guns, like Airwolf did.

But I would have liked to see in the final battle as soon as String took off Halen pushed the button and out popped the guns and the adf pod. When it comes to a fight like this Airwolf Vs. Airwolf should have had the music from the first season That great Orchestra music.Soon as String took off the music from the first season hit would have been great.

I noticed that!! Harlen just punched the missile buttons on his main control panel (PS - WHY did they show Maverick missiles, which are SPECIFICALLY air-to-ground weapons, used against Airwolf IN THE AIR?? There should have been a button for a Sidewinder, or something. Heck, in the Season 2 episode, "Firestorm," Hawke calls for a Falcon (which was an air-to-air missile circa the mid 1960's) to intercept the nuclear missile). I'm also a military weapons junkie!! (continuing my previous thought) - As I said, I'm a military weapons junkie, specifically military aircraft & missiles, so I found a LOAD of technical errors in every season of Airwolf. Look at the premiere, when Marella says, "The latter offers him 14 firepower options, from 30-millimeter cannons to nuclear-tipped Shrike missiles." In the REAL world, the Shrike is specifically designed as an anti-radar missile, with a conventional warhead. There were lots of errors like that!

But I noticed little things too but hell it's Airwolf so I just played it off. Hell if they did create an Airwolf I'll be in the military trying to fly her. I agree about playing off the little things - like Bill Shatner said about "Star Trek" - "For crying out loud, it's just a TV SHOW!!" Same with Airwolf. I got hooked on military aircraft and missiles when I found out I CAN'T join the military (I've tried 3 times and they won't take me - long list of medical problems), and you're right about "The Lady" - after flying her, any other helicopter would be a letdown!!

@knightryderrwn Yea I know what you mean like one time after I watched airwolf one saturday me and my family went to the airshow and I wasn't amazed by the helicopters there.In fact I remember thinking these helicopters would be shot down in an instant By the lady. Every year after that I hoped she would be there on display and I'll get to touch her or sit in her. What do you think about Airwolf Vs. Blue Thunder? I like them both and wouldn't like to see the fight but work together.

I don't know about Airwolf / Blue Thunder - they were somewhat similar in capabilities, but I still think our Lady would come out on top in a direct dogfight. But, I would rather see them working together, too!! And, I know what you mean about current military helicopters compared to the Lady - they just don't have that sleekness about them that she does!! :)

My greatest memory of Airwolf is the they push the ignition and the music starts and in the sun light She comes rising up then Sting,Dom or Catlin push that turbo button and take off I love that. Season One had the best music, yeah!! I liked Dom's line in "Daddy's Gone a Huntin' - "How come Archangel's 'good luck' always sounds like 'GOODBYE??' Or in 'Fight Like a Dove' from Season 1 (after they took Airwolf to 86,000 feet and then nearly crashed her) -

I always thought it was funny when Cait would throw the turbo switch (back in the EDCC) and go flying back into the seat. Of course, Dom could just reach forward and throw it - he was a little bigger than Cait. But, yeah, those sounds were great - I never had any Airwolf toys - best I can do is to fly an Airwolf recreation in Flight Simulator X (PC game).
