'The Call of the Wild: Dog of the Yukon' (1997) is the best adaptation of ANY of London's books into a movie. And it is available on DVD. I bought a copy some years ago. Not sure from where--perhaps Ebay. Then I ripped the DVD into a network drive as an .avi form and now watch it often anytime using my Acer Iconia W500 tablet running Windows 8.
@Exploder237 I am afraid he's right, I tried for many times to get this movie, luckily my grandad had it and I loved it to pieces. But Keep trying and I hope you succeed.
@exploder237 : If you're trying to find the movie, I don't think you will see it here on youtube...sadly....Either you have to buy it somewere or "find" it on the internet ;)
I have this movie, I love it forever, it is a great portrayal of the book and the actors are amazing, I have read the book numerous times and I love it, "when the long winters come on, and the wolves follow their meat, he can be seen running at the head of the Pack, leaping gigantic above his fellows as he sings a song of the younger world, which is the song -- of the Pack" and a howl at the very end with this tune on. Oh well done and thank you!
I've loved this version of Call of the Wild since it had its premiere on the Family Channel here in the US in 1997!
Thank you so much for uploading such a wonderful video and the stirring classical piece of music the movie had for its soundtrack is just a joy to listen to! :)
Love this movie and this song really fits the story. This is a good example of the importance of the soundtrack in movies. By listening to this, you can recall the scenes and the feel of the film :)
'The Call of the Wild: Dog of the Yukon' (1997) is the best adaptation of Jack London's 'Call of the Wild' novel to date. Not only the movie closely follow the novel but also it is beautifully made with great acting and natural scenes. You will immediately see the difference between this great movie vs other cheesy Hollywood adaptations. And Richard Dreyfus' voice as the narrator is the icing on the cake. Watch it again and again. The movie is as much about 'Buck' and 'Thornton' as about us.
@enpowered9 I saw this film when I was young with 15 age years old more or less and read this book first before see the movie its for me the best movies that I ever see...!! DIsculpas mi spanglish Pero leer este libro en verdad vale la penaaaaaaa grande JACK London plasmo la realidad de EEUU en la epoca minera desde una perspectiva increible.!!!!!!!!
The majestic Leonberger, they couldn't have picked a better breed of dog for the lead role as Buck in this film. If you've never met one, you haven't lived.
Just can't stop crying. This is the first time i crey for a video. It's beatiful. How? Because I just read the book and it's precious. This movie adapts all of the movie, I'ts.. And the music makes me cry, because remember me all the dog had to pass.. It's just shy!!
@huhabah The original "Buck" is not a Leoberger. However, calm down, if you do some research. Marshall an louis Bond's dog , whom inspired "Buck", does resemble a Leonberger. Have you ever seen the pictures?
Please someone spoil me. Tell me the dog doesn't die at the end!!! :( (Because most beautiful dog movies end with either a dying dog or a happy dog reunited wkith his family)
@Cinedragon Well, that's life, they die very bad, poorly...... Anyway, it's a good movie... I could tell you to read the book, but if you don't want, no matter, watch the movie, it's a beatiful movie, and if you read the book, will be more sad for you (like me, i cried the first time i watched this video, because it's beatiful, you don't know what this poor dog had to push). But it's beatiful history, Jack London is ONE of the best writers ever!! And lastly, sorry for all the people I spoiled!
@Cinedragon Don't mind. I like to help people, and specially, promote to read and know this beatiful book.
You said if you can find it, i can help you if you want. Are you talking to the book or movie? The book's no more of one-hundred and more pages. It's for children.
@CamoDudet04 It is for DVD too. But seeing it in Amazon, it's very expensive. If you have multiplayer DVD you could buy it the spanish edition, PAL and region 1. I'll try to help you searching it in other pages.
@flautist02 : I love the music too!♥ well... that's probably obvious x)
I actually don't know the name of the song, and I don't really think that the song has a specific name either ... so I had to "copy" it directly from the movie's intro, cause I didn't know elsewhere to get it ...
Why didn't they make a soundtrack CD from this movie?! ^^
Thanks for uploading this! I just read the novel for the first time (had not seen any of the movies) and it was amazing! It was also my first Jack London book, great writer, I look forward to reading more of his work. Some of it was really sad but I like how he didn't pull any punches and was honest and brutal about showing the harsh north and its dangers and violence.
The movie looks great, and Rutger Hauer is a super actor, I'll try and find it somewhere. Not on Netflix unfortunately. =(
I've just finished reading this book and from all the clips I've seen so far today this one is my favourite one!!! really touching scenes... I love Buck :')
@MusicIsGirl oh really? gosh i was really hoping that it had all the characters, I mean the book was so fantastic. Can you tell me what parts and characters they left out?
@RadRosa89 It would be to long to list but like they don't have nig and some others parts. Also, I would need to check the book out more to be really exact.
@PaintedPicasso You can find it at online stores for sale like amazon or google. People don't post it since it is not known as much as the other Call Of The Wilds also you should buy it anyways since it's illegal to watch the free versions.
Also, I love this movie more than anything! To me it's a really touching and inspirational movie and book! My friends don't get it but they just don't have the maturity level to see anything beyond a dog. Like the amazing task they do for us and how smart they are. Also, beautiful song!!
these sad movies abaut dogs... the only thing that can make me cry

The dog in the film may be a Leonberger.
However, the dog in the book is a St. Bernard and "Scotch shepherd" cross. Scotch shepherd is an archaic word for working collie.
