I don't necessarily view myself as a liberal or conservative, I just happen to like their views (Tom Tancredo, Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich)on certain subjects and personnally, I don't think there is something wrong about securing the borders.
Finally for those that think: "That is not our problem, why cant countries like Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador find a way to prosper by themselves" I can only say that you should investigate why this countries are so poor and you will be surprised in the role the US played in all of it. Some examples are: Coups to democratically elected governments, supporting dictatorships or corrupt governments, etc..
Consider the real risk it will be for the US to loose all countries south of the border, as allies. They all have right wing governments (El Salvador is even in Iraq) To me, that's a much bigger security risk. Especially if the people living in those countries have no means to survive, which is what will happen if illegals are not allowed to work. Under those conditions, you can bet Al Qaeda will look in those countries for new recruits.
Did you know that Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador have right wing governments? But you can be sure that depending on the position the US takes on immigration, a door may open for radicals (Hugo Chavez style) to come to power. Have you thought of the security risk it will be, to have countries aligned with Venezuela and Iran, right next to you?

Some examples are: Coups to democratically elected governments, supporting dictatorships or corrupt governments, etc..

Consider the real risk it will be for the US to loose all countries south of the border, as allies. They all have right wing governments (El Salvador is even in Iraq) To me, that's a much bigger security risk. Especially if the people living in those countries have no means to survive, which is what will happen if illegals are not allowed to work. Under those conditions, you can bet Al Qaeda will look in those countries for new recruits.

The degree in which poverty will rise in countries like Guatemala, El Salvador and Mexico will directly affect the USA if illegals are not allowed to work anymore. Up to now, all of those countries depend on the income of illegals for their survival. Can you imagine having Africa style poverty and violence right on your backyard? It can't be good for the US security.
