@jimbobcuk I'm having a hard time understanding why you can't see this commercial as a compliment to England instead of an insult. The green and pleasant land is a lot nicer than mess it is now :-)
chinese products/brands are okay, but wats not ok is dat they copy or clone other type of product. it confuses a lot of people and its not good. its like copying someones paper of an exam.
Well, we all know MG & Rover are dead, in heaven, and dwell in the happy hunting grounds of the beyond. Do we need to visualize it. The opening is perfect, Rover sunk underwater.
China buying a brand name and "lifting" the engineering specs from Longbridge doesn't continue a tradition, it just shows us what the Chinese do best, knock offs.
Corporate structure and communism is a marriage made in the back-room of glass building called the "office box".
@chaboman I do feel rather sorry for rover, as if you look on wikipedia, you should see how far they came, just to be knocked on the head by a bowling ball, ;-(
Well everyone has their own opinion, Britain don't have their own car Company/manufacture, but they have best engineer designer for performance car, as what I know that British economic can not be massive production trend in now days, and it would get best economic profile, instead as own the superior techniques. And provide high profitable service, which is the way Britain transforms to. And we have known that most F1 racing car built in Britain. The British design team work for BMW...
I'm interested to see these when they ship to the UK/Ireland. It would have to be a great car with many improvments to sell here...I would worry if the K series engines are still in them.
The MG7 (Rover 75) wont be coming to the UK. Three brand new cars are being designed at the moment by the design team which is in the process of moving into the Longbridge design centre. There will be a new TF, a new medium sised car based on the designs for the Rover 550 and a small sporty car to replace the MG ZR. All the cars for the European market will be built at Longbridge, though there will be a greater degree if imported parts.
PRoduction at Longbridge is due to begin sometime in the spring of 2010. So far as the engines are concerned, the percentage of HG problems with the K-series was small, but the press heavied on them (as usual). The engine designs went to Lotus from what I recall, who also used the k-series engine (so it can't be that bad) for re-design and the head gasket problem has been resolved and with one or two other rfinements will be called the N-series. It is a fabulously smooth motor...
Yep. From my understanding Lotus have been doing all the design work for the new K(N)-Series engine including the head gasket. To be fair, the K didn't have much of a problem with this although it did exist, obviously. When you look at manufacturers warranty return figures, very few of them (relatively) related to the head gasket. However there was a problem initially and the press rounded on MG Rover unfairly.
Many of the problems owners experienced with head gasket failure were brought about due to poor servicing. If you check the oil and coolant regularly, any serious damage can be avoided.
Yeah you are dead right. Our Connoisseur V6 had to have the engine rebuilt. Bill for £2.5k. Lovely car but you have to check the oil and water every couple of weeks. I have an MG with same engine. Worrying!
Coz, why was Ford saying that? not Toyota, Honda, VW, NISSAN...... is ford doin better than TOYOTA? is ford still doin good on the market?? its just ridiculous!!!
What 'workforce' ... the british haven't had a bloody 'workforce' since Leyland f*cked things up! Thanks to the bloody british 'workforce' this beautiful car was killed of by the germans and a handful of british frauds.
if you look carefully in the final scene...when it pulls up to a halt... i'm sure it's pissing out oil....!!!
so will Row-vee be making a "Heritage Classics Range" as well...?? Time to re-introduce the Maxi, Montego, Allegro & Ambassador onto an unsuspecting Chinese population....happy motoring....!
Oh no, this is worse than I ever imagined i've had 2 Rovers (an 800 and MG-ZT) I loved them both, but this is a joke.
In England's green and pleasant land, a Chinese built abomination carrying a Rover badge, what do they think we are? I don't have anything in tweed, own a shooting stick or hunt Fox's.
I will e-mail George W. Bush straight away and tell him that Nanjing Automobile Group is a terrorist group who plan to bomb the USA, with any luck he will blow them up.
Who in their right mind would want a car that is built in China, with cheap materials and labour rates, and pisspoor interiors with tacky plasticky materials, and poor build and workmanship? This piece of turd with a hijacked Viking longboat symbol and a daft name Roewe and daft marketing slogan Rong Wei(sounds more like Wrong Way!)is an insult to our car industry in the UK!
prove me wrong if I make any mistakes. first, does Britain still have a car industry? second, why dont u just buy the design and brand back? third, do u make enough money to afford one of these cars? LOL, sour grape theory is fully demonstrated by u here. way back in time, "superior" caucasians said the same thing for japanese cars, guess what? japanese cars are beating the shit out of white cars nowadays. feel embarrassed?
i think the car would look good painted green, with a turret attached, with a man in a white shirt standing in front of it... maybe in tiananmen square.
Looks like chinese had made a mistake, again! Horrible design. It will be pure bad-assembled plastic like almost every chinese car. Pity for a historic brand like Rover.
Yeah, Ford stepped in and took the advantage of the agreement between BMW at the last moment before SAIC get the brand. So what? They have not got any plan for Rover yet. By considering Ford's financial condition, they may never use the brand and this might be the end of Rover. I feel sorry about British.
you're right, dryan5, china needs coca-cola and microsoft. that ought to hold them up long enough for the US to catch up in a couple of decades. maybe.
I find Chinese goods to be cheap and flimsy. Back in the days where Britain ruled the electronic, technological and science market, machines and instruments were built with quality and precision. I know people that still have electronics from pre-1960 that are still working perfect. I have had a tumble dryer made in Great Britain that was made 29 years ago, and it has never had a single fault.
Don't get me wrong though... I love China! It's a wonderful country!! But so is Japan, US, UK, France etc etc. I guess we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Even Americans aren't invincible
I'm sure what you said about China is very much as same as those western lobbist 100year ago until today, they said China will never be strong, but the fact is that China not only dominant manufacture industry with in 20years of open market economy but also gradually taking over control high tech industry like software, airplane, laser, shipyard, space,auto... I wouldn't be surprised if China can dominant American Auto industry in next 30years
Your comment about the British motor industry shows a deep misunderstanding of what is important to the economy of a Westernised Nation. Anyone can bash two pieces of metal together, put it on a chassis and sell it as a car. Britain's economy has moved on. It's too advanced to do something as simple as bashing metal together. There's a reason why Chinese dominate simple manufacturing but not banking, insurance, IT, Telecomunnications, Jet Engines, etc The economy there is not developed enough.
Do you know Hua Wei, which is Chinese Cisco and making 3G mobile phone solutions. This is one company UK don't have. Do you use Flash Drive? Flash Drive was invented by Chinese company called NETAC. All other brands Flash Drive either oem from NETAC or steal NETAC's patented techonology.
That is true, China makes fantastic electronics! However much R&D goes on outside the country :(. The other thing china needs, are worldwide powerful brands like Coca-Cola, Rolls Royce and Microsoft. Another thing is cultural domination, Chinese Music and Films need to be worldwide popular like Hollywood they need famous bands like the Beatles/Coldplay etc. I think China has the potential, but it's not there... yet!
no, that's cuz we started late and pressured by foreign competition in auto industry. but I'm sure in next 20years all you see on the street is Chinese madefrom low cost to high edge tech
The only reason people bought the 75 was that it was british. Now its just another failing car company that was bought by an equally unsuccessfull foreign company.
Chinese cars are cheap and nasty....that's why the Communist corrupt officials and embassy officials around the world drive Mercedes not China built cars...
Chinese did not steal Rover, THEY BOUGHT IT. Unless you also think Americans stole Jaguar, Land Rover, Saab, Mercedes Benz and many others from Europeans.
These cars are the best who cares if they are made by the chinese they just have to be quailty and yes they are quality. You people just don't understand the situation of MG/Rover
this car is stunning they have made it so much more modern than the old one the new style back is much better and the interior they have improved the old 1 which i thought was impossible but theyve done it so well done plus i dont think it will apeal as much to 100 year old grannies !!!!

Lotus use a multi-layer steel headgasket, which is what the new K series (N series?) will have fitted.
Unfortunately head gasket failure was common on the Rover/MG K-series.
