  • thats a penguin mate

  • What kind of gretsch is that

  • Beautiful.

  • hey tube of you's, i did a cover of this song if you're bored kindly unbore yourself with it on my channel, or go be disgusted by my face or make fun of me for existing, I love verbal abuse and constructive criticism so come sex me up with the two of those things, thanks, bye.

  • I wish there was 2 or maybe 3 "like" buttons more...

  • What is the kid using on the guitar to get that feedback sound?

  • @xbax23 its called an E-bow, they are pretty cool

  • Hey! He messed up the first line!

    So good though.

  • the dynamics of this song is crazy! I haven't heard anything like this before!

  • I CANT LISTEN TO THIS SONG ENOUGH

  • goosebumps.

  • 3:45 tears. everywhere.

  • @zoroztheg4mer it's a so called eBow

  • what's that thing he moves towards the pickups to make that fading noise ?

  • It's called an E-Bow

  • @Treefingrs can even compare the two they are both outstanding in their own rights they create for entirely different reasons

  • The lyrics make no sense.

  • I really wish the band only consisted of a few guys like this still instead of like 8 or 9, pretty incredible this is only 4 guys.

    Still Bon Iver is amazing.

  • Thumbs up if drummer looks like Christiniths husband from The Other Guys.

  • @NateOnly scratch that.

  • @NateOnly No. Go away.

  • @Treefingrs Yea he really doesnt... lol

  • @NateOnly Haha, yeah. Still, this is pretty much the best fucking thing i've ever seen. Pretty much.

  • @Treefingrs Meh, Dallas Green is waaayy better

  • @NateOnly Dallas Green isn't even a real thing.

  • @Treefingrs Yea... He is... The person in City and Colour and Alexisonfire... Retard.

  • @NateOnly Those aren't even real bands.

  • @NateOnly You my friend, have officially become the dumbest reject on youtube.. Congrats

  • Hauntingly beautiful music that gets under your skin! Brilliant!

  • @guitardene it simulates the effect you get from using a violin bow on a guitar, but without damaging the bow the way you would with continual use

  • @bLackmarketRadio amen brother.

  • he got his own words wrong at the start :P

  • This version of flume is amazing.. Do anyone know what tool the guitarist uses to make the sound on 00:48 ? I would really like to know.

    Thank you =)

  • @Guitardene It's called ebow...really adds to this song beautifully. Apparently works by an electromagnetic circuit that senses the vibration of the string, and then creates a magnetic field that propogates the string vibration at the same frequency, producing a smooth, eerie feedback.

  • @lsg5us Thank you, really fell in love with it..

  • Hey guys! We've just made an "Misheard Lyrics" style interpretation of this song, it's pretty funny, so check it out on our channel or copy this: /watch?v=dNRlDTnG8Qo and you will be entertained!

    Have a nice day :)

  • I can't listen to this song enough, and this version is so warm & pure. Great post

  • oh my god these guys are amazing! theres so much emotion in every performance i've seen of them. im in a band, and we'd love to be able to write and perform songs on this level. take a listen to our stuff on our channel if you want x

  • @abandcalledalice nice way to shamelessly plug your band you douche

  • this is almost pink floyd-ish

  • i do believe that if i never get to see bon iver live, my life will be meaningless in every way.

  • @Isaidveto it will be, i saw him the other night. a must see show for sure, you will not regret it at all. such an amazing voice

  • Oh my god, can I just marry him?

  • i think these myspace transmissions are actually better than the album version, to be frank. stunning performance!

  • Comment removed

  • amazing, play this song at the same time as Pink Floyd's Mother, they go so well on top of each other...

  • It's odd that he changes the first line of the song. It should be, "I am my mother's only one", but instead he says one of the lines later on in the song. Regardless, this version is haunting.

  • Everything was Bon Iver and nothing hurt.

  • beautiful

  • I've been fan of this song since I first heard it eight or so months ago. This performance was great. But I can't overlook that pretentious nonsense that took place between 3:10 and 3:45.

  • @stvnhws It was not nonsense. It was a perfectly rehearsed explaination of Winter.

  • 1:11 - 1:36

  • <---- did a little cover of this song, please have a quick listen :)

  • This is so genius.

  • stunning

  • i think i'm in heaven

  • I listen to this song atleast 3 times a day, if not more.

  • I listen to this song atleast 3 times a day, if not more.

  • six dislikes?

  • Does anyone know if anyone has compiled these into mp3s to download for an iPod?

  • @Renegademaster15 yes, but unfortunately they wont play on an iPod.

  • @Renegademaster15 I have the mp3s, and they play on my ipod classic just fine.

  • @Renegademaster15

You can get the youtube to mp3 converter - just google it - works a treat, best thing i ever downloaded.

  • i just cried a little (i think they did too).... and i thought i was a man

  • The harmonies in this version are magnificent. Debate what you will, but that is incontestable.

  • whats that thing at 1:07?

  • @kingdomkey5362 it's an e-bow (electric bow)

  • @soromoc thank you

  • Anyone know what type of guitar he is playing?

  • @WCIPvids It's a Reverend guitar, a Jetstream I think... great, great guitars

  • this is the sound of everything good in life..

  • anyone know what guitar that is?

  • It's one thing to write a song out of pain. It's another thing entirely to write words or a song out of the kind of heartache that bleeds out more and more each time it's performed.

Few of us have ever experienced heartache such as this. For those that have, I hope you find some kind of solace in this.

  • I'm torn. I don't know which one's better, the original or this one. I fell in love with both.

  • @duxquak this one. fo sho

  • I made the mistake of watching this video while high. It's just too good to be true. It's bliss... Heaven.

  • Justin has an amazing voice

  • It's like youtube is having sex with my ears.

  • It's as if every performance he does is better than the last.

  • Out of the 100 000 views this video has, I'd say that about 200-300 of them are on my account. He has a bigger part of my life than what would be considered healthy for a musician to have on a single individual, and that is, ironically enough, the sign of his greatness.

  • 1:10 - 1:18.

    wow.

  • what's the thing that the guitarist uses to play the guitar? :)

  • @Filfille I believe it's an EBow

  • @Filfille It's a ebow. It's used for sustain of a note. It's really cool

  • @Filfille It's a ebow. It's used for sustain of a note. It's really cool.

  • @210Jacobo Thank you :D I'll buy it :)

  • Justin Vernon can lean on a piano and make it sound perfect, sign of a god amongst mortals i think

  • does anyone know what kind of guitar Justin is using?? God so amazing.

  • @ithdawgLIVE Reverend jetstream 390 :)

  • @c25h25

    THANKYOU!

  • I am my mother's only one It's enough I wear my garment so it shows Now you know Only love is all maroon Gluey feathers on a flume Sky is womb and she's the moon I am my mother on the wall, with us all I move in water, shore to shore; Nothing's more Only love is all maroon Lapping lakes like leary loons Leaving rope burns -- Reddish ruse Only love is all maroon Gluey feathers on a flume Sky is womb and she's the moon [
  • this is so so so amazing.. i cant even imagine how people can make thes enoises

  • That instrumental breakdown, too perfect.

  • Orgasmic.

  • im listening to this 5 times a day regularly just like your recommend fruit and veg in take! Its very important you know!

  • this is music

  • falsetto FTW

  • whats that black thing he the guitarist uses in like that first part he plays where he moves it up the strings and it gets louder?

  • @drummerian24 That would be an E-Bow. It's used a lot by The Edge from U2.

  • what kind of guitar is that?

  • @warderwine The burst is a Reverend Jetstream 390 and the black one is a Gretsch Jet Baritone.

  • god, i would give BOTH of my testicles to be part of a music project like this...

  • @bLackmarketRadio Whoa .... and ... eww

  • @bLackmarketRadio I think you could definitely hit that falsetto then hehe

  • @bLackmarketRadio thats what justin beiber did, apart from his project was shit.

  • What is that thing that the guy with the black guitar is using to make the strings vibrate? I remember my guitar teacher having one, but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.

  • @XCallXMeXmatt . Its called an e-bow...Very cool when applied tastefully.

  • The quiet ease with which Bon Iver recreate the simple beauty of their studio album makes it seem like any one could grab some friends, guitars, and a few racks of old recording gear and make a great record. If only it really were as easy as that.

  • what reverb pedal is the guy with the black guitar using at 2:27 and on?

  • So much emotion and feeling in his voice, this is music is about.

  • I'd say 75% of the time I drunkenly come back home after a night out, I end up playing this on my shitty acoustic guitar and drunkenly wailing the words. The perfect way to wind down.

  • this takes you somewhere drugs cant...

  • @ShnuckFuckle well i am listening to it on drugs!

  • @ShnuckFuckle Yes, into a lovelorn well of dark oppression and caught breath.

  • @ShnuckFuckle combine. enjoy.

  • This band knows how to play real, from the heart, music!

  • There are no words to describe this, so moving

  • simply beautiful

  • the instrumental bridge into the chorus is incredible!

  • 3 people are hard of hearing.

  • @xadaytorememberx - Make that six people. I wonder whats wrong with them! haha, this song is amazing

  • Comment removed

  • only love is all maroon

  • i think that's the best use of an e-bow i've ever seen.

  • @AwakenGentleMass what is an e-bow? i know its the thing the younger guy uses...but what is it? :S

  • @Markoy121 It is a little bit of kit for the guitar; like a hand-held magnet which uses a magnetic pulse to comstantly vibrate the guitar string (you can usually set which string youwant to vibrate) meaning that the note you're fretting never ends until you oull off (in which case it continues to play an open) or change fret or you take the e-bow off.

much like the bow for a violin or cello (which is wehre the name comes from "electronic-bow")

  • I feel this song is basically about the feminine principle in general. It's best to be abstract when pulling data from "the source."

  • I can't express my frustration at how artists as breathtaking as Bon Iver are unknown to so many, but the majority of music listeners around the country love shit music like Lady Gaga and whoever we're told is quality.

  • @ColbyFoote just hearing this song and then hearing what kind of music is in the Top 10 genuinely makes me want to hit someone. really quite hard.

  • @LFSproductions the national is in the top ten? ;)

  • @ColbyFoote i like both bon iver and lady gaga.

  • @EvilRipley that's not the point

  • @ColbyFoote Thats our society, Ppl like , do , and think what they've been told .

  • @krewesc - Agreed. People don't know what they like....They like what they know.

  • @ColbyFoote that has to be the most truthful statement. Bon Iver is pure talent.

  • @ColbyFoote so glad other people feel this way. Any time people bring up artists like Lady Gaga, and kesha, I literally say, "Oh god... don't get me started."

    Straight up makes me mad.

  • @ColbyFoote Why don't you stop pointing that out. Listen to this music, all the people commenting and searching for Bon Iver know what music is. Do not concern yourself with other people, all that matters is that you personally know what real music is.

  • @Bearswin8584 ...REAL AS IT GETS !

  • @ColbyFoote Most important thing is that YOU know him, buddy !!!

  • @ColbyFoote Would you want the mainstream to ruin something as beautiful as their music?

  • @adds102 Hahaha hipster.

  • Are you fucking kidding me?

I might not need another album if they keep covering these songs like this. And I thought the la blogoteque version was great. They just keep getting better and better.

I was lying though, I need another album.

  • Hmm.

  • Almost broke me down, this is truly unbelievable.

  • Amazing voice! I love his voice! makes me dream!

  • @zaropt

    It's an ebow

It creates a magnetic field around any string and vibrates it very fast and can imitate a bigpipe or horn or a whole lot of other stuff

    About $90

  • whats that thing that guy at about 49 seconds in has in his hand and if so it accents the song so amazingly can anyone tell me

  • @zaropt i'm sure this has been asked and answered hundreds of times on this, it's an ebow

  • This band has changed my life.

  • its so amazing how everytime they perform their songs they make them different and everyone of them sounds perfectly amazing and i totally agree with Danger

  • Shivers!! That was absolutely beautiful!

  • I may be in the minority here...

...but i actually like the sound of a really clean light-decibel electric guitar playing the ramble more than the acoustic.

It gives it such a vastness this way...wow..this is one of those songs that nobody can quite explain what it means with specificity, yet you sense instantly wherever it came from in him, it came from somewhere authentic and cathartic.

And that's art at its best; moving in ways that can't be understood or defined.

  • And with that comment, I'd like to ask for your hand in marriage.

  • @slitheringinterstate

    Thats very well said.

If I had a hat i would bow before you.

  • @slitheringinterstate I like the videos where they wander around the street with their acoustic guitars singing though

  • @slitheringinterstate

I think you and me were cut from the same cloth thi song blows my mind

  • @slitheringinterstate you're not alone :) I like it this way better too :)

  • @mayganey Same.

  • @slitheringinterstate I couldn't agree more with your comment. If you're not already a fan, you would really like Great Lake Swimmers.

  • @slitheringinterstate Very nice statement.

  • I think it's impossible to get your own lyrics wrong

  • wow this is amazing.

  • How do you keep covering YOUR OWN SONGS better over and over? These guys might never need to do another album if they keep it up. Still looking forward though.

  • Haha im pretty sure he got the first line wrong but thats what happens when you get into that deep trance that is bon iver!

  • It's like... very scary to me how good he is. like i can't even describe it! his passion in his voice is just so lovely. i love it!
