The version I've heard and sing, they all get chased into a lake by a snake. Love the assortment of wedding guests in Bob's version. 'Folk song passin' around' at it's best; no two versions exactly alike.
omg been looking for this song forever ...I remember my mother singing this to me. She passed away several years ago with Alzheimers. Thanks Bob for the memories.
My sweet mother sang this song to me when I was her baby..I lost my precious mother in 2009 when she lost her battle with cancer..R.I.P. My dearest mommy, auuggie...
My Grandmother used to sing this to me. She was a special lady who sang all sorts of songs like this. She recited old English Lit. stories, poems & rhymes. She was also one of the best story tellers I know. She could make you believe anything, scare you to death or make you laugh till your jaws hurt. maybe she is part of the reason I love Dylan.
Dylan is really an amazing guitarist - his picking here is both technically very clean, but also expressive. I wish he'd make an album showcasing this particular talent.
the year is 1992, actually
