  • I'm gettin dizzy dude. Stop spinning!! Great song. Classic!!!

  • Cool song

  • You folks who complain about the blackface are judging too quickly.

This is Fred Astaire, one of the greatest dancers in history, paying homage to Bill Bojangles Robinson -- another of the greatest dancers of all time. This was a dance number that was meant as a TRIBUTE to a HERO. It was not an insult. And the blackface was not the comic kind but just some makeup to make him look darker.

Have some respect for the intent here.

  • Not speaking on Astaire, but the road to Hell is lain with good intention.

  • blup blup blah blah , when u got some evidence of that place actually existing get bk to me , otherwise save ur religious ramble'in's for the god channel ok . this is my soul music page if u aint happy do 1 ok . V1

  • infact byesee byes .

  • here here n well said , they cant just erase history because its not pc , bollox is what i say its fact not fiction ... im not here to apease anyone if they dont like it they dont need to watch it , but its fred who giving the tribute here so if anyones complaining take it up with him n get ur shovel out n start diggin .

  • @DURound Sorry, but you are wrong. Blackface is associated with American racism trying to portray the black man as a happy go lucky 'darky' and is recognized world wide as such.

  • @Basoflakes Sorry Basoflakes, but you are wrong. Blackface is something that even blacks sometimes wore and in this case, it was not used to portrary a lucky "darky" as you said. This isn't even really blackface -- which came out of vaudeville and made a sort of comic image including exaggerated lips for comic effect. This is just dark makup to make Fred Astaire appear black. Furthermore, intent DOES make a difference.

  • @DURound well said

  • @DURound ppl will say anything that will put them in the center of attention

  • ... Is that guy in Blackface!?

  • erm yea why ???

  • That's not a good look in my people's history.

  • get a fkn grip pal , its called history incase u aint realized ??? n dont even think about going down the chip on ya shoulder route on this 1.

  • Wow. Fred is great here. This is a fantastic use of song and video together.

  • my my is that Fred Astaire, it has to be, no one else can dance like that. I think this is the perfect song to the perfect dance and vice versa

  • good song

  • The first, truly real disco song. Still sounds good 30+ years later. Great beat and music. RIP Vicki Sue Robinson.

  • lol hmmmm yes its a disco song if u r a chart music enthusiast lol, but in reality its modern soul of its time n classed as modern northern soul in uk , ktf , V1

  • great song, great video. thanks

  • The best video ever!!!

  • Unbelievable what a sizziling sound.. I gotta go dance!

  • the 70s were so funky

  • Awesome mix with Fred Astaire's crazy moves, lovin it!

  • The grooves in a lot of these 70s songs are unparalleled.. I wish (modern) music went back to focusing on groove.

  • Ditto 100%...modern dance "music:" has lost its groove completely!

  • @narfy foreal man... uknow what when american idol was on for the first time i was like yesss they will bring this nice music back..but this kind of program find a good artist with a nice voice and then when they get into a record label they start doing hip music rap ect ect im like what happennnn lol...

  • @narfy If we tried to do that, a lot of people would probably butcher it. Look who we have. I'm not going to name off people, but seriously.

  • This is our chorus song!!!

  • always got time for Fred Astair

  • thanx u n cheers for the comment soulsis , vorsprung1 ;)

  • Please friend......was a public presentation? was a movie? where ? when?

    It's Amazing

The lord of dance are a baby comparated with this....

  • this really is a freaking mind blower. defining song of the disco era by a great singer, and Fred Astaire, wow! Vicki Sue Robinson, R.I.P.

  • Mannnn!!!!!!!!!!!!! You couldn't tell me NOTHIN' when I played my CONGO'S & BONGOS to this, ShiiiiiiiiT!! I thought I was Shelia E

  • Wow, this video blows my mind. Fantastic song, amazing dancing performances.

  • I have to sing this song for school!!!

  • Now then,this is A song!! Thanks for the "Up"!..Noami :0)

  • After watching it again I realized that the real African-American tap dancer, Bill Robinson comes out at the end at dances for a minute or two. (After Fred's tribute to Bill's tap style) This is a historical clip.

  • LOVE the video, it is hilarious! Love the way the tap dancer competes with his giant shadows. LMAO!!! Swing Time, Fred Astaire? Really? Well, it went perfectly with this song the way he kept "turning and turning around"! LMAO!

  • Fred Astaire was a uniquely amazing dancer. He will probably be rediscovered soon. Royal Wedding alone is enough to make him an icon of dance.

Astaire felt his hands were too short so he gathered and pointed his fingers in a distinctive way to make his hands look longer and more "elegant" when he was dancing.

I suppose I've never seen this clip because it is culturally insensitive to wear blackface.

Still, I give myself full marks for recognizing him!

    Thanks for the reply, saga24us12!

  • Astaire is legendary dancer, no doubt. My jaw drops every time I see one of his movies.

  • As a younger admirer of the legends he is so extraordinary @_@ MacDonald AND Eddy were also amazing :D

  • amazing video! who is this dancing? at first i thought it was Fred Astaire because of the way he was holding his hands, but then the face of the dancer looked like a black guy...

  • You are right!! It is Fred Astaire in the movie, Swing Time. He is just wearing blackface as he dances to the song, "Bojangles of Harlem" as a tribute to the African-American tap dancer, Bill Robinson.

  • sounds great!!! great vid!
