I have just done a fun video called "History of pop in 100 riffs" , and this is one of the riffs featured in it - i love this song so had to include it.
Please check out the video on my piano and take the challenge to see if you can name the famous keyboard riffs ;)
Hope you keep on making these kind of videos , as i wish youtube was about when i took up the piano / keyboard.
All the best, and please have a look at my new vid
Oh my , could you please, please, please make a tutorial or tell me the chords for the verses and chorus?? I cant find them anywhere and i want to learn the whole song. and i cant read sheet music :( Your playing is amazing btw, sounds like Paul Simon playing
I really, really need someone who can play this song that good on piano on stage; I guess if I get this sound in my ears, I'd sing it better than I ever did with my own kind of crappy piano playing and backing tracks and stuff....
WOW! You play this so well! My grandad recently passed and this was played at his funeral. I'll always think of him when I hear this song. I really want to learn it on piano - just need to get one first! Thank you for putting this up - your're awesome!
I liked your version, well played. Couldn't help but notice your splints, do you already have RSI? Makes it all the better if your able to put together such a fine piece having to deal with that.
Isnt this crazy....this guy looks like he should be out hunting rabbits or something and look at his amazing talent...U GO BOI!!!...I aint mad at you...that ol sayin is soooo true...U CANT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER...LOL!!!
Just wanted to add, I know it is doubtful because you are WAY talented and probably so past that, but I can't find one other version of this that I even remotely like. Your playing is perfectly beautiful and moving, I'm really blown away by it!
Hi, would it be possible to purchase a cd from you with this song in full version, but in the key of A for my son's vocal performance? You are very talented!
Absolutly AMAZING! I wanna learn to play this song soooo badly! You do it soooooo well! Do you happen to have the music? Or maybe you could do a "how to" video?
Thank you. I used a free sample sheet of the first page and learned the rest from the CD. I don't have a way to get an overhead view and I don't think I'd be good at a tutorial (also I'm lazy :). Great song to play once you learn it though!
Well that's understandable about the tutorial. I'm sure I would be the same way... But is there a way you could get a link or something for the free sample sheet of the first page?
BY FAR, the best cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water on youtube. Man it gave me the chills listening to you nailing that song! Especially the intro, I was just awestruck. Thanks for sharing!
A very accomplished and talented version... helped a little bit no doubt by your lovely sounding Yamaha piano. Good you do a version of the 'Long & Winding Road?? Please!?
Depending on what kind of version you learn, I'd say this song is a little more advanced but not too bad. It calls for 4 notes at a time in the right hand which can be a stretch. I wouldn't say it's a beginner song but since you already play an instrument, you might pick up the piano a lot faster and maybe have some good luck with it.
I am oakabeabe. I've had about a total of 5 piano lessons in my life. I'm 34, it's so frustrating not learning the right way. please look at my site. I know I'll never play as beautifully as you.
You play great for only having 5 lessons. Just think I had hundreds of lessons and I'm not nearly as good as I should be. Keep going, maybe try creating some original tunes.
that was nice, what did you have on your wrists though? You played amazing, to say they were strapped up! I play too, but not quite to that standard, not enough time to practice...mum of three and all that!
braces for some partially torn ligaments, really helps to play almost pain free. Thanks for your kind words, hope you can somehow "make" time to sit down and enjoy playing more.
Really? I am inspired! Managed to get 30 mins in this afternoon, just between work and picking up the kids! I am learning, slowly,Everthing I do, I do it for you.But don't expect a film of it on here for quite some time , if ever! ;o)
How did you learn to play that? I can play the version which has the melody line but its not like the studio version that S&G recorded. Ive tried to figure out the chords for the version you play but its so hard. Can you help me? Very well done, BTW.
I used the sheet music to get the beginning and the first part of the chorus down, then I listened to the song and learned the rest. I usually hate having to play the singer's voice in the right hand so I just go with the song.
Oh my, you're good! I used Ii was 4-17) But I haven't played in YEARS and alas I doubt i'll ever get it all back without a lot of refresher lessons (that and my piano is in storage lol). But this is a piece I've always wanted to learn (without the melody hand).
okay I need to learn english better (I just looked at my post and it probably makes no sense in the beginning). It's supposed to say:
--------

ha I wish! I have a GC1 (if you're not familiar it's a newer model in the last couple years that combines the C1 and cheaper G series features. Still has the duplex scaling and all that good stuff but I believe the framework is similar to the G models to keep the price lower).
No problem. I try to get the pieces as close to the real song as I can instead of playing the melody in the right hand to substitute for the singer's voice.
ive listened to other people plying this tune on the piano, and to be honest they just seem to over complicate it and ruin it, this is just right, great job..
I think most sheet music comes with the melody line in the right hand so that's what people play. I don't like that as much, since it's really the singer's voice that should be doing that. Thank you.
yeah, it's really just repeating the verse one more time but playing it quieter and fewer notes on the 3rd time through - the "Sail on Silver Girl" part. Great song to play :)
that's a good question. It's probably easier to say that I can't sight read (play and read sheet music at the same time) unless it's something like "Mary Had A Little Lamb" :) so I basically memorize everything I learn, that's the only way I can play.
yeah.. my sight reading is poor and I normally listen, memorised and play. I took up piano many many years ago when I was still a kid but eventually gave up cos I hate classical songs. Regretted now. I took up organ in the end. But you played a great piece. Keep going brother!
i just saw your other videos and obviously i would not be able to establish any comparison (in the "how long it might take to learn this") your already existing skill is entirely too superior to my just starting out.
I'm not sure how long it took to learn this but don't sell yourself short, you're probably getting into piano without much prior training and I had like 7 years of lessons when I was young. I bet what you can play already of the song is impressive and without all the formal training. I probably got obsessed with the song and sat down every day for a week to learn it. Then another week to get it smooth.
w/more courage and grit tried a week later and got through couple of measures, week later could play all of 4Ms, then finished intro (not perfect, but okay and slow). It's been a month now and can play (with plenty of mistakes)to M14. Admittedly, it is coming quicker.
I'd like to point out to prev-poster, that it is a diff-piece for beg-piano player, but i am so glad i challenged myself, instead of settling on less enjoyable, but easier piece.
when you pick up an inst at 39y.old, 1.you must be determ. and 2. not enough time to waste on working my way up to it. Besides if your mindset is one of this is a daily hobby, that brings personal enjoyment, then this is not too diffi-a-piece.
sorry this will be long and may be in two replies, but a golden tip for those in my shoes: set up computer by piano. Then, after download music program (i use finale notepad),
each day you sit down to play enter a measure or 2 from the Sheetmusic--divide the bass&treb on two dif-sheets. So, when you practice, slow the tempo on finale and that way you can play it at the speed you learn and it serves as an example for learner regarding tempo and how each chord sounds.
Not to mention your understanding of theory will sky-rocket.
how long did it take you to learn this, as well as you play in this vid?
this is my first piano song to wholeheartedly attempt to learn (coming from classical guitar for the last year)
i am through measure14 and it has taken a month to learn just those 14 decently. that's with about an hour a day. btw, your video has shown me the best tempo and hand movement; for instructional value--very fluid.

If you're determined enough you can do it with just a little ability and a lot of practice. Try it!

Excellent! I want to learn how to do that! What's up with the wristbands? Have you been playing the piano too much?

Your are good. You should be with the band of Michael Buble. He hires good looking and talented musicians.

okay, forget my question dude.
i just saw your other videos and obviously i would not be able to establish any comparison (in the "how long it might take to learn this") your already existing skill is entirely too superior to my just starting out.

Here'e a laugh for ya, regarding my progression:
attempted measure 1, then quit
w/more courage and grit tried a week later and got through couple of measures, week later could play all of 4Ms, then finished intro (not perfect, but okay and slow).
