I love this dance. I am in highland dancing and I have been for 9 years now. I am very sad that this will be my last year because I am moving. On tuesday I will be doing this dance at a meeting with the bagpipers. Im so excited! HIGHLAND DANCERS ROCK
Wow, great job! I agree, the Laddie is so nice to watch when it's done well :-> That stage looks so tiny! I was holding my breath, hoping no one would fall off - is it just an optical illusion, or was it a tight squeeze?
It was quite a small stage for that particular dance. It was okay when we did my choreography and dances like the Fling on it, but trying to fit 3 dancers doing a dance like the Laddie with so much travelling...was definitely a challenge.
I'm starting playing bagpipe with a canadian woman who also plays for dancing. I learn Highland Laddie and now I'm able to play as fast as on your video. But my pipe major says : you must play slower. A good Highland dancer must dance on a slower tempo, when the music is going fast it's too easy! Do you agree with that?
playing to fast can make dancing very challenging for the dancers (especially the older ones), but playing slowly also makes it difficult. The music in this is video is the fastest the dance can go without it being overwhelming for the dancers. If you ever wonder if you're playing too fast/slow, just ask the judge at the competition or a dancer, and they'll give you some honest feedback
I agree with you. If you're looking for a good musical support for your dances - may I suggest you "A High cut above" CD from the Canadian SFU pipe band, most probably one the world finest bagpipe music for Highland dancing.
Thanks for watching! Do you know who their teacher is? I did compete in Pleasanton, but not the championships. I was too out of shape for that :( I did well in the national dances, considering I was up against all regional champs :)
I'm from the scottish highlands myself and having seen this performed at many a ceilidh, I got to give the thumbs up :] good show

I agree! I always end up doing a blue bonnets or village maid on a small stage...horrible!
Very nice dancing by the way! Any tips for keeping balance on last step?? I always end up flat-footed!

I don't like dancing to fast tempos. It takes a strong, disciplined highland dancer to dance slowly...besides, I'm too big to jump fast

I love that cd -- i've used it so much since I started dancing (10 years ago), half the tracks skip, so I just got a new copy!
