I just have bought this mic, haven't used it much yet thou so can't say anything about sound quality. When I first opened package and examined the mic I was surprised how cheaply build it looked. For example, the light pipe for power led wasn't on its right place which is often typical to cheap made in China products but shouldn't be for this kind of "non-China" product. Ofcourse it doesn't affect sound quality, but still - cheaply build is cheaply build (or badly designed).
I don't know if there's something wrong with my mic, but it has a LOT of noise. Even if I'm in a quiet room, the noise level of the room tone is extremely high.
does this mic work If I plug it right on the hot shoe because my dslr camera doesnt have a mini jack but I heard earlier that this one didn't use a mini jack input it just attached to the hot shoe... so I need help. and great review btw thanks
@supragnar nope you have to have a 1/8 in input somewhere. If your dslr doesn't have a minijack you'll have to go with a "two systems" setup and get a separate audio recorder as well.
Do you think this microphone would be good for recording something in a large room? I'm trying to record stand up comedy and I'm not sure if I should get a mono or stereo mic.
Hey. My Rode Videomic sounds really bad. I don't know if it is me doing it wrong or something but it sounds like i've but a box over the mic when i recorded. Can anyone please help? What am I doing wrong or what is wrong with the mic? Thank you
Also, the size of the plug on that, in other words is it the size the would fit in an iPod headphone jack? (I don't plan on plugging it into an ipod because I know it wouldn't work, I'm just trying to get an Idea on the size. :D )
Can anyone tell me whether it's possible to mount this on a canon legria hf m36/306 camera? because the camera doesn't have a mic jack but it has a shoe mount.
@TommyPh500d Yes you can, in fact that's probably who Rode were targeting with this microphone. The mount is a hot shoe mount thus you can simply mount it on top, and plug in to the DSLR with the mini jack. I use it on my Canon T2i/550D.
Anybody know of another shotgun mic in this price range that is just as good? whether it be cheaper or a few dollars more, can someone name a few? aside from the new videomic pro
They just announced the release of the Rode VideoMic PRO this weekend. It will retail for around $230, and the reviews are super stellar. A lot of improvements since the original VideoMic.
Where did you buy your Rode video mic, as i cannot find it on sale online (on their official website) and well i live in the U.A.E and it is impossible to find it down here, so what would be your suggestion?
The rubber bands that held the mic in place are very cheaply made and fastened - I think it was about 5 months of use they began to snap. While the mic itself is brilliant, the layout of it really brings you down sometimes. Also, the main problem lies in the WIRES. When you're walking with this mic attached, the wire tends to lightly touch the camera, and that creates an annoyingly loud sound when you listen to the replays. This is an awesome mic, but make sure you have the wires secured.
How good is this in isolating sound in a restaurant table if I'm sitting across from subject but don't want to hear ambient noise of other patrons. Or would a lavalier wireless mic be better for that situation. I want to interview people in noisy settings. Would be nice if I didn't have to attach a mic to them. Thanks.
For all of you wondering, the Rode Videomic is boomable. You just need to remove the shoe fastener using a Philips screwdriver to access the two threaded holes.
Oh, and why do most film technical people sport ponytails? This is like... my fifth time seeing a camcorder accessory reviewer with a friggin' ponytail.
Hello,i seriously need help!!!I want to buy this mic and i live in Europe.I bought a canon hg10 camera in USA.Will this mic work on my camera??(i will buy this mic in europe)
I just bought one of these based on your review. It is absolutely brilliant dunno why people rely on their camcorders mics. The sound from this is flippin ace! I've ordered a fluffy wind sheild for it as well.
@enjoi612 I bought it from a company in the south of England but I can't even remember who they are even though they send me their catalogue every year. Can't even remember what I paid for it. I'm using it now with a Zoom H" recorder as I'm back shooting on 16mm film and as you probably know 16mm cameras don't record sound.
I Love this Video and also I checked out your Channel. Very interesting! If you need any help getting this Video and your Channel exposed to were it is top in all the search I found this site called tubeviews.(net) that has took my breath away. I'm working on my 4th Channel now, this one I just made. My Videos are getting so many hits now. Check it out and keep in touch.
I would buy this model...but there's also the cardiod stereo videomic.
Do you recommend the stereo one for external recordings? I think that the mono version is good for external use...only if you have to record inteviews or dialogs for a movie.
