@ebtl0947 or anyone who reads this, you can use the bba and the dreamcast will just hav internetmlike that? No home phone numbers or other computers or anything just the adaptor and you gotta connect to a server?
@carontester Only if you live in certain parts of europe (I think) can you still use the modem in the dreamcast for online play. I could eb wrong, though. But essentially uou just connect the phone line into the DC modem, and use the DC planetweb broweser to setup the modem connections and account settings. but you have to have a dial up account to use it.
@EBTL0947 hi tnx for the answer i live in mexico and i dont have a dial up telephone conection i have a briadband conection via cable modem how i can conect the dreamcast to the web and play online with it???
Do you have to install anything? I still play Quake 3 Arena (Actually, I'm playing it online right now on Dail-Up with a free service. Free=LAG by the way...)
@PIKACHU49386 Well, either Planetweb 3.0 or Braodband Passport (like in the video). Not really installing, just running the disc and setting up your DSL connection. Hm? I should have showed that part...
@thedirtys2006 umm... eBay, Amazon, Google Prices, many other online stores... Don't try Play Asia though, they may have one, but only the Japanese Only model.
Pardon me for asking, but where did you get the Broadband Passport Beta from and does it function like the Dreamkey browser that was embedded in games like Jet Grind Radio(e.g downloading game saves, images, etc)?
@supersonicex It was a download that I believe I still have available. Send me a message and I'll give you the info. Ill have to upload it to my server for you to access it.
@azb0111 Right now the only options I know of are shtack or shtacserv..I forget the name, and then there is dreamcastDOTonlineconsoles.DOTcom. He has a dreamcast PSO online commuinty. He has a rpivate server for the game, and the ONLY truly legit, NON HACKing server left on the planet for PSO. Check him out.
Carrying on from what EBTL said, the problem is with the private server on Dreamcast.onlineconsoles is that you have to be active on that site for over 6 months and be trusted by him as well. But when your finally in. its awesome ^^ If you ever manage to get into their servers i'll see you online.
The online service I have right now is embarq or centurylink as they are now know. It is no cable or satellite, so I am pretty sure it is DSL which is still high speed right?
Nice. I was wondering is there any way to hookup my Dreamcast to my windows XP computer's dial up connection and then us the computer to DSL to hook the dreamcast up to the internet. I do not have dial-up.
@JESSIEEDSELL21 Yes. It uses dialup by default if you have just the 56k modem. If you have the BBA you can also go online. This video show me getting online and browsing the web with the BBA using Braodband passort.
You MAY be able to snag one off ebay - but you'll pay for it. I was VERY LUCKY to get my BBA for about 126$, but it *also* came with a Dreamcast keyboard & mouse, two VMUs (1 a 4M Sega VMU), 3rd party controller, and a burned game - PowerStone. I got it all off eBay from just one auction. the guy just wanted to get rid this stuff.
This I do not know. As far I knew only SEGA ever released the BBA for the Dreamcast. The software (BroadbandPassport US Beta Version 1 )you can download, but I don't have the link. I got it as an ISO that I burned onto to a disc and used in a Dreamcast I got off eBay so i could play on the UK servers that were still up at the time.
yeah... i believe its around 6.00 dollars a month... idk this was like in 2007 man so idk... you can find independent servers for free... look it up on ask[.]com
I was using earthlink at the time and I found out they only offered about 1MB upstream, with 3 Mb downstream. but I really only saw about at most 1 MB both ways and even then upload was mostly 800K at most. I moved over to ATT and got faster speed for half the price.
I have Altec Lansing, itmade my DC come to life, but that was on a 20" TV. When i got a 32" i could hardly feel the bass so i put the speaker system back on my PC.
i would love to have oe of these... nothing uses dial up anymore and they are def not worth 150 dollars (like they are on EBAY). It's old technology for and old system... this should be 50 dollars at the most
2 days ago I missed one of the best opportunities of my life... on eBay, someone won a Dreamcast, few games, 5 controllers, one Broadband adapter, 4 VMUs, controller extension, VGA adapter, for only 103$.... Man I regret that I played COD4 instead of bidding on that!
@ethen24 Don't fret! There are few games that still work, especially Quake 3 Arena!! I can find 9 servers on a *free* Dail-Up service, imagine if I were using Broadband!
onlineconsolesDOTcom has more information about DC online games. But the admin is picky about the PSO areas. You have to prove your legit and be very active on the site forums to play on his private server legit only PSO server.
And by picky they are in a sense ***holes when the admin thinks he knows it all. my Dreamcast works fine on an hdtv. In any case there are other sites that host PSO.
the admin is so annoying I don't even go there anymore.
He's really a useless jerk, he will keep sending himself glory for what others did, he keeps thinking he knows it all (Like that HDTV lags too much for playing Dreamcast) and he seems like he's rich and have no life (he can spend that much time and money for games...)
The only other similar website I know of is Dreamarena, but it's only in German, sadly... :(
At least you agree with me. I was banned there for using the Wii played on an HDTV as an analogy to prove him wrong.
I use SCHT to play PSO. I want to make games for the Dreamcast so I can make current owners have something to look forward to as well as show the world that there is a market in classic gaming.
HDTV! HDTV!! HDTV!! Really! So when I get my 32" HDTV I can hook my DC baby up to it!!?? OOh, happy-days! ** I say 32" cuz I cant afford anything bigger..so 720i will have to do. Tho' I hear they have a 32" 1080i out there....

But there are plenty of ways to get around that.

Just to add, SEGA UK still offer free Dreamkey discs. I phoned them a few days ago, and they are sending me Dreamkey 3.1 for free.
SEGA may of killed off there own servers, but it's nice to know they are still supporting Dreamcast users.
