  • is that steve hackett standing at the back?

  • PHISH NEEDS TO BE IN THE HALL OF FAME!!!!!

  • At 1:14 when Phil says I get to do the dirty work, Tony and Mike don't look to happy with Phil for that comment!

  • The problem is that, they were inducted because of Invisible Touch, Land Of Confusion, Turn it on again, Mama, Misunderstanding, I can't Dance, instead of The Fountain of Salmacis, Watcher of the skies, The Musical Box, Supper's Ready, Eleventh Earl Of Mar.

  • @yesshows100 No, they were inducted for the stuff with Gabriel. Genesis were inducted with Tony, Phil, Mike, Steve and Peter. Anthony Phillips was missing but c'est la vie. Sadly this is the last time we'll see Genesis. Phil Collins retired this year due to damaging his spinal cord and nerves in his hands plus is partially deaf. If Phil wasn't injured then Genesis may have happened once more after 2007 but Peter doesn't want to do a tour nor album but a film on The Lamb Lies Down.

  • really happy to see Steve Hackett there. he's as much a part of the band as any of the rest of them. Gabriel can kiss my ass, he never hardly even acknowledges Genesis and his time with them anymore. he did some amazing things with them, some of the best music in all of history, but he's apparently ashamed of it. i can understand being ashamed of those STUPID costumes he wore, but the music? the music they made in the early 70's was incredible and beyond any of the other prog groups of the day.

  • So Peter couldn't make it, eh.. "planning a tour." Ha, what total crap! Sad Peter couldn't be appreciative of his past in a great band, of honoring what they accomplished during his era, in honoring those wishing to honor HIM. Thankfully, Genesis' music will live on, as it's MUCH bigger and tremendously more important than trite personality and ego clashes. Genesis was always MUCH bigger than its parts (sorry, Peter). Incredibly inventive, creative and beautiful was Genesis in its best days!

  • I so wish that peter would have sang with the boys.

  • Looking at Phil's right hand....wow.

  • That's why he They're more a part of Gesesis than Hacket or Gabriel who by the way declined to make nice and reunite for their last tour. How cool would it have been for either one to at least make cameo at "When in Rome Tour" What do you think? Am I wrong? Pt.2

  • @mtorma777 yeah but you gotta admit Collins, Banks and Rutherford are snobs when it comes to the gabriel era music and they try and lock it out. The music that Hackett and Gabriel produced was the fundamental and an integral part of the sound of Genesis and always has been. The three guys just commercialised the sound, perhaps their biggest hit Turn it on again was in an odd time signature, noticed how Phil sings a lot like Gabriel? Hackett and Gabriel have always been Genesis.

  • Peter is Peter! That's why he wasn't there. He Probably knew he did in deserve it (with them.. Don't get me wrong. In his own right he is fabolous (Slasbury Hill etc). My biggesst disappointment was that Chester and Daryll were not there. I know they are only a "live" component to the band-- but after 29-some years? Come on. Pt1.

  • Anyone know what the song was that was playing as the band got up from their table to be inducted?

  • @bennathon the song is 'watcher of the skies' from foxtrot 1972 ;)

  • @freiheitsalv what the one at 1:00 is watcher of the skies? sure it isnt

  • @bennathon Methinks it is Turn it on again

  • Lol... "For people to come out and OWN UP that they like what we do" LOL, Collins makes me lol, shouldnt be embarrased about liking genesis

  • Is it me or is Steve trying to hide behind Mike lol?

  • sucks that Peter Gabriel wasn't there, but awesome that they performed

Watcher of the Skies, a more than worthy song.

  • Well Phil ....it seems you don't know what to say ...you better shut your stupid mouth and let the other guys talk ...keep playing your drums cause that's what you do well ....

  • Admit it, guys. They only inducted Genesis because of Invisible Touch, We Can't Dance, and the other albums with Phil Collins in it. Sucks that the Rock & Roll Hall Of Mainstream Music couldn't induct ELP, King Crimson, Jethro Tull and Rush. No, instead they have Grandmaster Flash, LL Cool J, and Run-DMC.

  • @XanaduUchiha Don't forget Madonna. Next will be Britney Spears.

  • @XanaduUchiha So? Phil is a genious and he deserves more than the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. He is a fucking GOD.

  • @XanaduUchiha You can also say the Hall of Fame inducted Pink Floyd for A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell when it was for all of what they did from 1967-95. Genesis were inducted for the Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins material (Ray Wilson wasn't even inducted). Peter Gabriel no-showing this was as bad as when Roger Waters no-showed at Pink Floyd's induction in 1996. At least, David Gilmour and Rick Wright did an unplugged "Wish You Were Here" whereas Genesis didn't play.

  • Rock Hall of fame has diss Kiss for the 11th straight time, whats up with that. They must hate New Yorkers

  • @ncast54 KISS? There are one hundred NEW YORK acts better than those clowns that deserve to be inducted first.

  • es un

  • es un puto

  • Who in the hell needs a panel of American Idol clones to decide if a musician has achieved a successful career. Being inducted into the piss stain of the music industry is like being abducted by illegal aliens.

  • Page= Kelsey Grammer. Just look at the guy.

  • Did Steve Hackett have a taxi meter running? Bless him.

  • the media make out that genesis are just mike and tony and phil but they really arent they do all get along infact phil tried to get peter for the resent tour. but peter turned it down.

  • STEVE??? HOT DAMN!!! I didn't know he was there!

  • If Peter Gabriel attended the induction, the critics would cry; "Does this mean a reunion?" I'm sure Peter wanted know part of the assumptions and questions associated with it and I can't blame him if this was one of the reasons. Furthermore, Phil was the singer longer than PG was with Genesis so possibly he took this into consideration as well. "Well, since you are all together again, does this mean a reunion?" NO!!!!!

  • Mike is right - they normally choose the most primitive guitar band before they look for a ProgRock band - not to mention ArtRock.....

  • Does anybody know if original guitarist Anthony Phillips got an invitation to this? If he did then he must of turned it down since he is shy and doesn't like being in front of crowds. But if he didn't get one, that is just about as inexcusable as inducting Madonna and ABBA before Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Moody Blues and Rush!!

  • hahaha, oh phil funny as always......^__^

  • I think Steve must have had to piss :)

  • Genesis rulz!! *gg* it's cool that phish and anastasio played the old stuff.

  • get on banks and collins disrespecting hackett....sad.

  • These guys should have been inducted years ago.

But Gabriel should have been there. Just take a listen to 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' and realize that they were all quintessential to the music.

    Gabriel's singing and lyrics

    Tony Banks' keyboards

    Phil's irreplaceable drumming

    Rutherford on rythm guitar

and last but not least, Hackett, who's guitar playing was practically what defined a large part of the band, their mood, and their atmosphere.

  • When I heard that Genesis were inducted by "Phish", I thought that the person has said "FISH". That would have made far more sense, wouldn't it? I suppose PHISH is more 80's Genesis though. And Ant should have been inducted with the band.

  • wow!!!! steve looks just like in th days of a trick of the tail and W&W.

  • I would like to see YES and Jethro Tull or maybe the moody blues a lil bit, who's camel, never heard of them.

  • It's about time they added Genesis in there, both Peter and Phil were good singers for the band,I'm, glad they were inducted into both singers as that way and Pink Floyd was too a long time ago,but does this mean, that YES and Jethro Tull and other prog. rock bands will be starting to get accepted,I don't know, but maybe,we'll have to wait and see.

  • @animal90sFreak5 Camel maybe, I don't think any others come close.

  • @animal90sFreak5 I'm kinda surprised they classify Jethro Tull in that category since the only two albums they made that really sound like prog albums are "Thick As A Brick" and "Passion Play" which aren't even their best work IMO. The first three albums from their blues days are way better.

  • @psychill22

Speaking of which, Jethro Tull is in my short list of bands that should be there.

  • it's so good to see Steve there

  • Silvio!

    The Boss was there also.

  • They also didn't mention guitarist Anthony Phillips who, according to the other members, was kind of a leader back in the early days before Nursery Cryme. I doubt he would've attended being the shy guy that is he. But still, acknowledgment.

  • @ELO1138 He played well on 2 albums!

  • Tony Banks was Born on March 27 1950, not January 30th. Phil was born on January 31st 1951.

  • Tony looks like he's gonna cry lol. I like how Mike tried to stick up for Pete by saying he had a very legitimate reason not to show. For all those die-hard Pete fans, I work with a guy who met both Pete and Phil, said Pete was a prick and Phil is probably the nicest guy he ever met. I never knew about Steve's drinking problem, I know he was addicted to cocaine for a long time, but AFAIK is clean now. He's not with Kim anymore either though.

  • phil still looks like middle age Charlie Brown

  • LOL. I'm a Charlie Brown fan myself.

  • Just needs the yellow and black zig zag shirt

  • @MottTheWot Genesis is the greatest band ever

  • @fodesarame Genesis were an interesting prog rock band whose appeal was severely diminished once Peter Gabriel left in 1975, they released nothing but drivel after that. Gabriel himself obviously doesn't regard them as that important as he didn't even bother to show for an award that would be much more deserving to Jethro Tull.

  • @MottTheWot check out trick of the tail and wind and wuthering, and try to get into them, before delivering your "definitive" lines, lmao. Gabriel was busy in his tour kickstart, thats why I couldnt come, as Rutherford informed.

  • @oilingup I have, but then punk happened and that changed everything for me, leaving bands like genesis post Gabriel insignificant.

  • @MottTheWot these lines look like from the unpteenth stereotyped dime store paperback pop enciclophaedia. I can foresee next chapters: "then came eighties with their void of values" and also "...the nineties with Seattle's grunge gave punk spirit a new life blood..." (no personal issue with you)

  • @oilingup I was 17 in 1976 looking for something new and then it came along to save us from the drivel that was being spewed out at us in 1975. What did you think i was going to listen too? The Starland Vocal Band? Peter Gabriel made some interesting records post Genesis, while Genesis spewed out garbage in the 80's, Gabriel left a band in 1975 nowhere near the level of a Led Zeppelin or Jethro Tull yet Tull are not in the Hall Of Fame and that's wrong.

  • @MottTheWot LOL for the "starland vocal band" :-) Agreeing for lack of jethro tull in the HOF. Anyway, Genesis 76-77: masterpiece. 78-80: still listenable (as a good quality pop with some highlights).

  • @MottTheWot Still about progressive rock, I d also say that syd vicious was nothing but a worthless lousy cracked junk loser, bound to be appropriately wiped out by Fate, while Carl Palmer is still alive, hunky karate blackbelt badass, and he rocks like hell. And, in case u dont know, Emerson and John Lydon are close friends. Google for it, if u dont believe me :-)

  • @oilingup Hold on a second, you brought up Sid Vicious not me, i was 17 in 1976 and i grew up with 60's bands like the Stones, Kinks, Who etc, then T.Rex, Slade and of course Mott, i loved Zeppelin, Sabbath, Deep Purple and Jethro Tull, Hawkwind were amazing to me. Genesis mildy interested me, then came the Ramones and maybe because i looked like them i got into them and it changed my musical direction. It was a wonderful era of pop music. Lydon liked Hawkwind too. ELP are a total bore !

  • @MottTheWot ELP are a total fun. You should have attended one of their 90's gigs, maybe in first row. Genuine enticing kickass groove. Then figure up how good they could thave been in the seventies. Trust me!

  • @oilingup DTA - Don't Trust Anybody. Pink Floyd, Genesis and Rush survived the punk rock onslaught. If Genesis still did Wind and Wuthering 2, The Lamb Lies Down 3 then Genesis may not have survived. Pink Floyd ixnayed epics in 1979 for The Wall and they had their highest selling album. Rush added New Wave and Reggae to its arrangements and they survived. ELP and Yes went out of style by 1979/80 respectively. ELP should never have reunited. Yes should have broken up in 1992 but nevermind.

  • @oilingup Certainly Tull deserves the nod, as does Yes. I love Genesis, and I think they deserve to be in HOF. But chances are they wouldn't be there if their crappy pop incarnation weren't successful. They would have just been another Gentle Giant - a forgotten prog act.

  • @sandro28grizz very true

  • @sandro28grizz Of course they wouldn't be there if the pop hadn't been successful. It's called longevity.

  • @kamwrites Rush and Yes both have longevity, but they haven't yet been nominated.

  • @sandro28grizz ............and?

  • @kamwrites Why are you so cocky?

  • @sandro28grizz *grins* Seriously? I've never been called cocky before, that's actually kind of cool. :) There's still time for these band. Because Genesis got it first doesn't mean these others won't.

  • @MottTheWot If Gabriel had not regarded his old band as important he wouldnt have gotten involved in recent "genesis 70-75" boxset, neither re recording "carpet crawlers" in 99 nor overdubbing his voice in old live stuff on "genesis 67 75" boxset. Agreeing though, about Jehtro (as Yes as well) deserving the award too

  • @MottTheWot I beg to differ. Trick Of The Tail and Wind And Wuthering were definitely not drivel. Once Steve Hackett left is when it really started downhill.

  • check out the reaction by the other three guys when phil says, "dirty work" at 1:17

    XD

  • Brits and Swedes! Happy Day!!!

  • Steve should have been given a chance to speak--he was a large part of them. Phish performed the songs excellent--imagine trying to play your heroes songs in front of them!!

  • Tony didn't talk either.

  • Wow tony got grey

  • Yeah he looks better than the rest of them.

  • That seems to happen to a lot of men in their 60's. It's a real mystery...

  • He turns 60 this month, yeah but he still has that young face. Steve Hackett looks great but colors his hair. Just look again. Maybe Mike does also, atleast Phil doesn't have to worry about it.....:-) They deserve this, they are all very talented guys who wrote great songs.

  • He's 60 already. His birthday is on January 30.

  • Man Phish are phucking ugly! What the fuck? Peter Gabriel not showing up is bullshit. I don't buy his excuse.

  • @kingofallwhites Peter is always busy when

it come to his old band mates.

  • yeah he said that he cant commit ONE day in the next 25 years to them. as if he is so prolific

  • @Dannymusic1999 Peter Gabriel doesn't care about his bandmates maybe because he is selfish or is jealous of Genesis great success after his departure and the amazing Phil Collins took over

  • @Dannymusic1999 Funny how Pete was very available for a reunion at Milton Keynes in 1982 when he really needed them. If I recall properly, his tour was in Radio City something like a week or two after this induction. He couldn't move his rehearsals to NYC, where he was going to be anyway, a week early and just show up for this for the fans?

  • @Dannymusic1999

I agree ....I don't know why PG has to be such a jerk and not to go to something so special, after all the help he got from Genesis when he was broke ...Well this time I guess he was too busy dealing with that shitty new album of horrible versions of mediocre songs ...

  • @kingofallwhites The Hall ignored Genesis for 15 years prior to this. I wouldn't drop everything I was doing to kiss their butt either if I were in his shoes.

  • Perhaps Steve was trying to see past the chip on Tony Banks' shoulder! His comments here and elsewhere were rude and uncalled for.

As for Steve and drugs, I guess you don't know about his anti drugs stance, the effects drugs had on his first wife (Before Kim Poor) or such songs as Everyday which are anti drugs.

  • Comment removed

  • @grundigradioboy

Why, what did Tony Banks say? I didn't see the actual induction ceremony.

  • Poor Steve - he must have had something irritating in his shoes (or in his blood system). They should have nailed him to the floor.

  • colininla, you're talking mince, pal.

  • Does anyone know if just Iggy, Iggy and The Stooges or the Stooges were inducted?

I know its semantics, just wondering how that happens.

  • @VictoryCough--It was the Stooges that were inducted, as the group. I'm pretty sure that "the Stooges" and "Iggy Pop and the Stooges" are one and the same. Iggy has yet to be inducted as a solo artist.

  • The Stooges were inducted

  • phil get's on my nerves. Well done Genesis !

  • For some reason, I just can't see anyone of those other groups being selected. Maybe Rush...but if they did, they would probably spurn it anyway. Seeing as though Phil Collins went through a long period of being reviled, I am somewhat surprised Genesis was even selected...although they truly do deserve it. They should be forced to recant "In Too Deep" though.

  • get fuck they are gods

  • you are lame.

  • stonerbudkap, Genesis music is too complex and sophisticated for you're Jonas Bros/ Green Day listening pair of ears kiddo!LOL!!!!!

  • @RangRing68 I listen to Jimi Hendrix and Canned Heat. Music with emotion not prog-rock drivel!

  • Knock yourself out!

  • Genesis are emotional, I hate it when they get grouped into the prog-rock thing cos they're so much better than those other pretentious bands like Yes and ELP.

  • Why do Mike and Tony say really stupid things all the time - "singles success". They will always be stereotyped as being ashamed of the early stuff, or so they come across that way, it seems

  • @wscott16 I never thought till today that they may think that way.

  • Fantastic, they deserve it!! Steve Hackett can't stand still......:-) Check it out again.

  • Genesis IS a great band. Great songwriting, musicianship, the whole works. Got to see them on their last tour in Sept. 2007 and it was great fun to see them live.

  • Watcher Of the Skies - Genesis

WATCHER OF THE WATERS - PHISH

  • No snub from Gabriel here. . he's prepping a tour.

Hall of Fame members or not, they'll still always have to live down choosing to betray their early years by dumbing down their music for the big bucks grab.

  • This is great!!! I love those guys!!! They sure deserve it. Steve Hackett can't stand still.......:-) My favorite era is Trick Of The Tail through Duke. My least favorite is Invisible Touch And We Can't Dance. Just my opinion, going to miss those guys!!!

  • The "honour" of Phish performing two obsure songs Genesis don't even like you mean? Weird and odd.

  • "Watcher Of The Skies" is anything but obscure to any real Genesis fan. It's one of the songs that made them famous in the days before you really needed to have a hit single to get any attention. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

  • Steve Hacket couldnt stand still. Little strange. Where was Peter?

  • @RangRing68 Yeah what's up with Steve? Was he drunk, nervous or in ill health. Peter well.... you can never count on him as far as Genesis goes.

  • @Dannymusic1999 Steve had a drinking problem back in the day, but he is a near teetotaler now. I'm fairly certain that it is not alcohol/drug abuse. He may be on some drugs for medical reasons...that may be causing the fidgeting.

  • @jrsqounk Thanks for the info. I never thought of Steve to be the type of druggie in the whole rock n' roll life style.

  • Dannymusic1999, Yeah, whatever it is with Steve, I hope he is ok. Peter is the most gifted of the bunch and my favorite but he really pissed me off not showing up!

  • @RangRing68 So you think a lyricist is more gifted than someone who creates masterpieces like Firth of Fifth on a keyboard?

  • I wish peter was as proud of this music as the rest of them! Great band here's hoping for a Lamb tour one day.

  • Genesis was one of my favorite bands that I first discovered when I was about 10, when Abacab came out. Worked my way backwards and forwards from there. Phish I discovered in 92 and were, and still are, my favorite current band playing today. To see them induct one of the bands that I first discovered at a young age, is a dream come true for me. Genesis opened my ears, so when I first heard Phish, I could hear the "Genesis" in their music. Particularly YEM. That hooked me immediately .

  • if gabriel was there i bet they would've performed something off of selling england by the pound. love to see phish play dancing with the moonlit knight

  • augustw3st, I agree.

  • No, Peter did not show. I wish he could have gotten over whatever phobia he has about being attached to Genesis for one night.

He was the only one that prevented the last tour from being all 5 members.

    So sad.

  • Gabriel is getting ready for a tour I believe, and couldn't make it.

  • I've been saying for years that if Genesis is not worthy of the RnR HoF they should shut the damn place down. Well now I'm glad to say they can keep the lights on. I agree with Aside as well, like them or not, their musicianship is and was brilliant. Great band IMHO.

  • Did Peter Gabriel show up? There was talk that he wouldn`t.

  • @estyle40 Peter Gabriel did not show up

  • @estyle40 no he didnt, started his tour that night

  • No he never

  • Nope.

  • He did not. He was rehearsing an orchestra for a tour.

  • Genesis were great, in all there different stages, I've always loved their music.

  • me too

  • genesis are phenomenal.

  • From the musicians point of view Genesis is a great band. No one can contest the musicianship that they possess, that is at least if you look at it in an objective way.

  • I favor their progressive era (early 70's) more than their jazz pop era (late 70's-Present.)

  • @mazter101

    you sucked.

  • thats just one mans opinion

  • Mostly Peter's material is beautiful.

  • @mazter101 your mom sucks - I know from experience

  • Best band ever well done GENESIS .
