  • fucking nice voice

  • They were and are both great bassists, their technique was strong, their context different. Jack was a Jazz player, John was more classical/pop - end of argument.

  • @janeythebrit as far as bassists go, John is by far better than jack. But musician ship, feel for the music and a sense of groove all go to Jack. Its really tricky to say who's better, honestly...

  • Outstanding. Jack is My bass hero

  • Amazing man love him

  • cool bass lines, kind of sounds sloppy at some points, piano part at the end is sweet

  • @coopdaloop07 Of course.. needs to be auto-tuned and beat-detected. THAT will "fix" this.

  • cool bass lines, kind of sounds sloppy at some points

  • How can anyone sing and play this ... oh yeah , and write it ? Is that Graham Bond in the background near the end sequence ?

  • So excellent comments here that nothing to add about the skills in bass, singing, composing. I also am impressed of the intensity of his performance, with such strength and sensitivity at the same time. Also, I watch this because Jack looks so divine. I am charmed also of his looks.

  • Wow! Where you find so good version of this concert?!

  • Cream couldn't contain Jack Bruce. Sorry, but Clapton could never hang with this. He needs one chord and 4/4 time.

  • as the hippies used to say...this blows my mind.....

  • this arrangement is excellent. love it.

  • Great how he can sing hard while playing complex bass lines, and never misses a beat.

  • @Drblooter99 AND...moves in and around and dances with the beat....floating like a butterfy, etc. NO ONE like him. There's been Jaco clones, but no Jack clones. No Entwistle clones. No Paul McCartney clones. I count myself so fortunate to grow up with his sound.

  • Jack was a jazzman which requires more grey matter.

  • I would have killed to see this 39 yrs. ago...He never ceases to amaze...I wish you could've seen Graham Bond in this on the organ , He was'nt with us much longer after this show.

  • Nice but I prefer him playing blues rock. Sorry folks, Cream were such a big influence on me and Clapton brought the blues to new heights. Jack Bruce improvises blues bass better than anyone else I've had the pleasure of listening too. Many get close but nobody I've heard has ever beaten him. He plays lead and rhythm. Listen to Spoonful. Master class.

Two words sum up why I play bass guitar- 40 years and counting. Jack Bruce!

  • Jack influenced so many bassplayers. He's one of the greats. Not only on bass but he is such a great singer too, and keyboardplayer.

And don't forget his skills as a composer, I think he never comprimised, his compositions are very original and stand the test of time.

  • Wrong button ! Anyway -He was so far ahead of the trend , it would be another 13 years or so before Grandmaster F.

  • The ability to play a line like that and sing at the same time is incredible!

  • i just keep coming back again and again......this is Jack at his very VERY best . sublime.

  • The verse in a strange way kind of reminds me of The Police

  • @Martiluk1 my guess is Sting was listening, don't you think ?? One would hope he did.

  • sounds like malignant narcissist in the beginning; Geddy Lee must really be influenced by him

  • Spedding was like 20-years old here, previously in freak-band Battered Ornaments. Check out the totally "out" Mantlepiece LP!!!!!!!!!

  • On top of everything else that the muses of music gave jack, he also got good looks and soft wavey shining hair glinting with dark gold.

  • join the club.......i've been besotted by the deep bass-lines , the face , the voice and the cheeky grin for years now !

  • That's John Marshall later to join Soft Machine on drums.....

  • Brilliant ! Hope Jack is well.

  • I think he is, I'm going to his concert on 26 July

  • He was going "somewhere" after Cream. This is terrific but couldn't keep it up. Maybe it was the drugs..

  • Two killer albums early on - Songs for a Tailor and Harmony Row. Nothing I liked for years and years till Kip Hanrahan's album called Vertical's Currency. He covers this song again on it.

  • Harmony Row den is a personal favourite of mine ; full of brilliant tracks, most with a strong Jazz influence but with milder improvisational musicianship around loose Jazz / Rock musical structures & frameworks ; similar in some ways to Colusseum band but not as free form & abstract as Soft Machine became by 1970 on 'S.M.Fourth'.Sting's 'Dream of the Blue Turtles' is very good too & also 'AJA' Steeley Dan

  • Great tune, I'm going to cover it. I've been "besottted" ever since I saw Cream.

  • @janeythebrit awesome

  • still REALLY blows my mind every time I hear this....................................

wee JOHN SYMON ASHER BRUCE rules !

who the f*ck ELSE can write music like this AND sing it , AND play bass like THAT ... AND lead a band ?

    damnnnnnnnnnnnnn funky , Jack ...

  • jack was a better bass player than roger.

    roger still kicks ass though.

  • Lol, actually rogers said that gilmour wrote a lot of the bass parts.

  • bueno

  • I really value posts like this, thank you!

  • Wow ... Chris Spedding years before Rock Billy Boogie with Robert Gordon ... !!!

  • great bass player, he look like to Thijs van Leer.

  • What a great video! I've just ordered a ticket for Jack's concert in Cologne next month. Can't wait to see him the first time live on stage!

btw - good to see Graham Bond. RIP!

  • the true brilliance of jacks music is that he is totally unafaid to play or sing a bad note in reaching total music nirvanna.he is and also has been fantastic and so original!

  • This is art. The best Jazz-rock-pop in the world. A Jack´s fan

  • Ive listened to cream for 30 years never heard a Jack Bruce solo I feel like a stoned kid in a hidden candystore

  • Jack will always be associated with Cream, but his solo albums from the 60's & 70's are some of my favorites of all time. To say I wore the grooves off those albums would be an understatement...

  • been a fan of the JB "trilogy" (tailor, harmony, storm :P) for years, thanks so much for posting these videos!

  • my goodness! this is Incredible! Jack just took me on a journey!

  • LOVE the ending of the song with Jack at the piano!! :)

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I imagine it's from an Israeli show of long ago.

I barely know Bruce's non-Cream work and this certainly gives me impetus to seek it out.

  • ive listened to it ALL

    and I can safely say

THIS man's music touches me and speaks to me and gets me going like nobody else's

    ....he's bloody brilliant....

really does blow ma mind EVERY time

    to my Jack ,

IM VERY GLAD YOU DISCOVERED YOUR MUSICAL TALENT AND SHARED IT WITH US !

    im in awe

  • great track

    great band

  • Jack has a voice from hell. I learned alot from his jungle wailing and his perfected falsetto. I was fortunate enough to see him this summer and at the end I grabbed his water bottle off the stage. I got it up on my wall. haha. it was great

  • Saw! JACK BRUCE "LIVE "-68 ;he led the cream TRAIN .....

  • jack bruce is good but in my opinion john entwistle is better

  • dont know much bout Entwhistle...correct me if im wrong , but i think he concentrated solely on bass-playing..NOBLE indeed...but Jack 's a wee bit more than just a bass-player. He writes the songs , sings them , arranges the music , and leads the bands. hIS BASS-PLAYING IS OUTTA-THIS-WORLD..(And i love the fact that you can hear the influence of his classical traning thru his bass...)

  • Entwistle had classic training. He played the piano and almost every brass instrument in existance. And he wrote his own songs. So you're wrong about that.

However, I love both Entwistle and Bruce. They're both amazing bass players, but very different. I couldn't say who's better.

  • i have been humbly put in ma place...didnt know bout Entwhistle...i was simply blinded by this beast of a talent , my Jackie !!

  • @janeythebrit - Jack Bruce once said of his classical training - "it took me about 4 years to unlearn everything they taught me before I could truly solo" - but you are correct - he is technically just so good - one of my three all time favourite performers and a huge influence on the genres I now enjoy because he crossed so many.

  • jack bruce its awesome, when was this?

  • 1971 on the OutFront show...this song's from his 2nd solo album Harmony Row. Jack rocks.

  • wee John Symon Asher Bruce from Glasgow is my MAN (sorree for his wife!)...he simply RULES...

what a sublime piece of music...

  • You are everywhere, girl!!! *lol*

  • your wee prezzie is on itz way E .....

  • who plays and sings simultaneously as jb does? maybe jp jones ? ahahahahahahah

  • who plays the piano, the harmonica, the chello, bass, and writes amazing music like jb, no one man. That's just not cool

  • Jack Bruce is the best

And yeah....Im a Jack fan.a really big Jack fan.(well, not literally!)He's awesome.talented.funny.cute.and the cherry is that he's one of my own-a Scot!

  • He is fantastic. Songs for a Tailor is one of my favourite albums ever. I don't honestly think there's been a better bassist.I'm a guitarist and I'd love to have his voice. Ok, my tongue's out of my cheek now!!

  • Heard from many that they think Jacks dead. The thruth cant be more wrong...hes one of the true rock legends thats still alive...

  • We should send out a bloody press release - JSAB is only 63 and lookin' healthy , recording NEW stuff right now , and appearing live in Glasgow !He'll never LOSE it cos he simply LOVES music ! Janie xxx

  • Janie, is this you??????

  • Yep....

  • Damn, I didn't even know Jack could play piano like that.

  • me either but that was cool and I liked his bass riffs too! Great stuff

  • Thank You , Jack

  • This has to be the greatest version of this song I've ever heard. Jack has always been my idol, and I love just about everything he's done. Is there anymore film from this show? Long live Jack Bruce!

  • Jack will remain the best bassist for long

  • yea - not to take away respect to the other talent in CREAM , but he carried that group on his shoulders,I had seen them live and it was an EVENT to experience . He played that four string like it had six.and a GREAT voice.

  • Well..I'm addicted...can't stop watchin' this!Jack amazes me-he mixes up such diff. sounds & styles, then carries it off perfectly,tx 2 stax of talent. & I just cant get enuff of the classical piano at the end ..which then blends into a cool wee melody. Jack, you bugger, you bloody RULE!

  • Gracious, is there anymore of this concert!!! Harmony Row is just about, for me, the best thing of my generation. Would love to hear 'Folk Song' or 'Council at Sunset' or 'Victoria Sage' or ANYTHING ELSE YOU GOT live from this band. Thank you, thank you for this post!!

  • John Symon Asher is still VERY MUCH HERE , you dafty ! To my wee Jackie ...lang may yer lum reek , my boy ...from Janie , the wee Scots girl who's all gaga 4 u

  • Gone where? Fishing? I think you'll find auld Jeek is very much alive and busy.

  • a king of bass is gone

  • Lost a fish, did you?

  • I love the sound of those old Gibson EB-3 basses. So deep and rich, with a little high end, but still really smooth. Nice. I had no idea that JB even played piano.

  • see jack run.

  • jeez have we lost things since then ? or im i just nostalgic ?

  • This is absolutely brilliant! I didn't even know that video of this particular 'flavor' of the Jack Bruce & Friends Band (circa 1971) even existed! Awesome.

  • I wish he were a bit longer for this world...

  • Good ol Jack. Lovely bit of piano at the end there.

  • good Paisley boy is old Jack Bruce
