Hello Captain Chancey, I'm not sure how often you reply, but I just wanted to know: Are Bait Casters better for big game? Whenever I go fishing for sharks or big reds I typically have my simple spinning reel with me (although it's only equipped with 20 pound test). But most the people around me have big baitcasters.
You can use both. The Spinning reels cast much further but the conventional baitcast reels hold much more line to fight big fish from shore. Hope this helps.
@MATTNATTMATT with pretty much every spinning reel, you can put the handle on either side. However, most conventional reels have to be made left or right handed, and are unable to be changed from the way it was made.
nice reds you should fish at matagorda bay at the rivers entrance i've fish ther wit ma dad n have caught huge red n more up river u kan catch huga alligator gar
when we catch red drum out of murrels inlet, south carolina we use finger mullet on a flounder rig or we use shrimp sometimes, sometimes there hard to catch at certain times of the year.
Ive never used braid since it is very expensive and very weak around rocks..out in the ocean like you were..Ide be using the heaviest braid possible..great catch though

Why do you use braided line instead of mono? Is it purely due to the diameter?
MrDomTak 9 months ago
@MrDomTak
With braided line you can put more line on and it fishes better.

@captchancey How does it fish better? Isn't it more visible to the fish and it doesnt go underwater as easily?
MrDomTak 9 months ago
what bait or tackle are you using because we always go fishing and rarely catch redfish and we fish in the gulf
