ThanksIKnowImLucky - You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. a power plant will produce 10mg of mercury powering 1 - 60w Incandescent bulb. A CFL only 2.4mg. I am no tree hugger - just a guy who sells $30k of this stuff a month. Incandescents produce more environmental hazards than CFLs just in the extra energy needed to run the lamp. Please be informed and not just jump on bandwagons.
@ovationz71 it doesnt matter how much mercury is in a CFL. even a small amount is bad enough to get somebody sick. when people are done with the cfl bulbs, i can guarantee u that MOST ppl will just throw them in the trash and that will eventually end up in landfills. Even the idiots who wana ban the bulbs agree that if u accidently break a cfl (accidents do happen) that u gota go thru a big clean up process or even pay $2,000.00 for a clean up crew. Fuck that! i'l stick with my edisons.
Over the past several years, lots of manufacturers, including GE, have sold "A-shaped" CFLs that feature a plastic ballast housing. We are announcing the world's first truly incandescent-shaped CFL. It mirrors the shape and size of a traditional incandescent light bulb. There's no plastic ballast housing. It's all glass, plus a metal base like an incandescent bulb. It's a byproduct of the strides we've made with the miniaturization of electronics.
Why the need for the glass shell? Hell, I think the CFL design looks cool. The only spot I would use those bulbs are in the bathroom above the vanity.

Ikea already sells incandescent bulb-shaped lights since years...

This is a CFL lamp in an incandescent shape... are you saying another firm has already done this? Who? Ikea does not make light bulbs.
